    So I am just about to install a kockney koi skimmer box on my pond just wondering how best to install it. The skimmer box is around 1 inch above the main water level on my pond. well I hope it is the pond seems to be level know. So what advise would you give about fitting a skimmer ? the skimmer seems to be a 1/4 above what will be the water level. I in vision the water level of the pond will be about 1 inch below the top of the sleepers. Above that will be a capping piece of wood which is about 50mm in thickness.

    Hi from across the big pond, I really enjoy your videos, very educational. Unfortunately way past my budget. Thinking on a 4000 gallon pond with a bottom drain, looking for effective filtration but simple. Living in a climate where it will be 0 Fahrenheit during the winter on multiple occasions for possibly a week at a time and more often than not the temp will be freezing. I will not be keeping koi but I have very very large goldfish which I plan to keep and some turtles.

    It's amazing how you are double handling materials for concrete.
    Your way
    Load wheelbarrow push to the mixer.
    Empty out wheelbarrow and load into mixer.
    Empty mixer into wheelbarrow place concrete where it's needed.
    My way set up mixer by materials.
    Load materials straight into mixer.
    Empty mixer straight into wheelbarrow.
    Push mixed concrete to pour straight into where it's needed.

      Never add rock in a pond with bottom drains. They make it that the waste doesn't reach the drains and instead rots on the bottom of the pond.

  • @Helveteshit
    @Helveteshit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    @Adam Julyan, if you do return to that renovation job. I suggest adding a Y fitting from that Draining Tank. So they got the option to use that Mucky water for their plants. Since it is nutrient rich and can be used for their flowers and what not. Then again, maybe they(The owners) don't care.

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was the original idea because there is a vegetable garden next to the pond but because the pond is lower and the pump room is lower the water just leaked back into that room so it was decided to put a tank in the floor in case any more water went in the room it would have somewhere to go. But yes that water is really good for plants i use my overflow water for the grass and plants and they have never looked so good.
      Adam

    • @Helveteshit
      @Helveteshit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how English gardens are. But Moss tend to generally be a problem for certain lawns because people cut too low. But Fertilizer such as Mucky fish water can help grass overtake Moss. So ye, it can be quite good.
      Anyhow, since you had a pump in the drainage tank. I thought the mainline out of it, could have a Y with a ball valve. Since the pump should be able to deal with it? I may be wrong. Well, good to hear that it was originally in the plans. Some people might forget it!

    Hello pond expert
    I need your help I am trying to build a pond behind a retaining wall which holds soil and plants. I have removed around 2 tones of soil but I and confused in what to do. I have build a pond for koi fish. I have just constructed a rectangle pond about 3 feet deep a metre wide by about 1.5 metre long. I was going to stick with that and have a pond with a pre-made waterfall. I then watched many videos on youtube with rocked in ponds and decided to build a second pond with a small water fall but I have a dilemma my original plan was to link both ponds with water falls but found I had a problem the koi pond is about 1-2 inch lower than the small pond and in order to get water to go from the small pond is casing me issues as you probably know to get water to flow from one upper pond to a lower one requires a incline both ponds are almost level. The reason I can not build the upper pond up is because the retaining wall would need to be level with both ponds so its difficult to put in writing what I am trying to do. I have made a video to explain in the link below please watch it if you can. As I see it I have another option and that is to cue some of the breeze blocks and build a water wall from the side of the small pond into the koi pond or knock a side section of the breeze blocks and exstand the koi pond into the wildlife pond would you advise this or not would having 2 separate ponds be better than having one large koi pond please advise what I should do thanks.
    My youtube video which I made can be seen here. th-cam.com/video/alMRMubWd2A/w-d-xo.html

    i need your advise i am having problems maybe you can advise me. I built a small pond out of breeze blocks and did a concrete slab floor I forget to put a hardcore base down so just layed a slab of concrete down on soil but I am finding water is seeping into the concrete. and I drilled 3 test holes and when I put my thinger in the hole water comes up is it important to have a subfloor under the concrete? I dug down about 3 feet deep and had to dig out alot of clay soil

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So if you fiberglass onto the pond it needs to by dry so what you can do if there is ground water getting in is dig a hole outside the pond at the side where water seams to be most getting in and dig it deeper than the pond and the water will go into that hole rather than the pond so you can pump it away this will give enough time for the fiberglass to set and then you can fill the hole back in.

    Hi Adam, I notice on this build you don’t have 4inch ball valves to purge the system, only 2inch return ball valves and 4inch shut off gates, which must save a lot in plumbing costs. Would a ProfiDrum be able to be set up the same?

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah any drum would connect to that setup although i would recommend having a 4" purge valve on a 4" system but in this case not 100% required because the 2" valves are at almost lowest point in the system.

    Hi Adam another great video I have a very big proffi drum on my pond but I have constant water going in and had the water board up twice thinking there is a leak, how can I add a ball valve so the water will only come on when the filters come on. ??
    Many thanks
    Kevin from Wales

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kevin, If your using a trickle there is little need for a ball valve with this pond i decided it would be unnecessary to have a trickle due to the layout of the pond i knew it would get enough water changes with rain and the drum using water and evaporation. You can add a tank like that and put a siphon pipe into the pond to match the water levels or you can use one of the auto top up devices where you have a small probe in the pond and when it detects low water level it will open a valve filling the pond up i used to do that on my main pond now i just have the trickle i have the drum set so if the water is a little low its to much of an issue and the trickle will eventually catch up.
      Adam

    PLEASE specifically identify the "helix chambers" at 14:38. I have googled under the brand name Helix and can not find this piece of equipment. There are nice, big labels on the tanks, but at no time am I able to read these labels. Probably some kind of TH-cam restriction on promotion or advertising. I just want to be able to check out the pricing to compare with cost of "bio ball" setups and Helix settlement tanks which run fairly expensive.
