I live an old traditional stone cottage on the west coast of Ireland and find staying warm in winter a challenge too. I advocate warm feet: dry footwear and a couple of layers of warm sox are invaluable
There is a saying that wood keeps you warm three times, when you cut it, when you stack it and when you burn it. I find chopping wood to be very theraputic. Loved the wood chopping music too 🖤
good tips to keep warm even if you live in a flat too. I use a hot water bottle every night too. and flannel sheets and pillow cases are less cold to lay on
I was going to say for it being your "least favorite way" it sure looked like you enjoyed bashing that wood! 😁 As much as I love the idea of living on a narrowboat, I'm the snowbird type and would have to be a part-timer. 🥶😅 Props to those who can manage or even enjoy the cold (my late husband thrived in Michigan winters), but I'm feeling super grateful for being in warm Tampa, FL right now! I enjoyed the video, and especially the photography! Wow!! 😍Thank you for sharing!
How do you get enough firewood? Make friends with an arborist? Purchase it from a fuel boat? It wouldn't do to hop off your boat of an evening and liberate a tree. . .
I'm surprised enough wood would be so readily available, but then your stove is apparently efficient. When I think of cordwood, I remember an elderly neighbor who probably kept at least ten cords on hand (or so it seemed to a boy), drying so he would have a constant supply of dry wood (he also had a much larger house than yours).
@@alanjameson8664 I have forests very nearby and I collect wood every time I go walking. The trick is to just make it part of your routine. I don’t even think about it anymore
Love love love this! Not the cold, do not like the cold but the esthetics of the video ooh ❤. And the chopping of the wood in the onesie 😂
The onesie is a must when it gets that cold 🥶
I love watching narrowboat content and then to find a Chanel that has dark ascetic/dark decor for their narrowboat is 🙌🏼 . This is so much my jam 🖤
Amazing! So glad you feel at home here on my channel

I sometimes wear 3 pairs of socks!
Love that music track you were playing when you made the tea, cant beat a real fire.
That is ja track I wrote for my channel, just a blues jam really. There is an electric version on an earlier video when I’m doing my Laundry! 🤣

I might try the flannel pillow case idea!
Gotta love the hot water bottles!! 😊
Absolute life savers
Very interesting.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it

It’s more the cold outside I dislike, the chopping of wood however .. that is always fun!
Interesting vlog Bones, are you frozen in yet, some boaters are?
The River hasn’t Frozen luckily
Great video, I would love to hear about your fit out and cost if you don't mind in a future video. Great channel
That is a big complex question! But I’ll give it a shot in a future Q&A or if not a video!
Another great video. Do you have some kind of internet transmitter on top of your boat connected to a MIFI dongle?
Great Question! I’ll add it to my Q&A for next week
Where did you purchase your cooking utensils ie copper pans and mug .Do alot of hot tent camping they would come in handy .Great content bones
I think most of them were off Amazon or eBay tbh
What sort of setup do you have on Battery management, eg charging, types of batteries etc. Enjoyed the video.
I’ll attempt to answer on the next Q&A but I may need to do a whole separate video!
New to the channel and loving your videos .
Can I suggest for the next wood chopping scene you have the sleeves rolled up and some tattoos showing?
I would have to draw them on!
After you've started the fire, how long does it take for the cabin to warm up? and what temp do you aim for during this cold snap?
Awesome question! I’ll add it to next weeks Q&A!
Great stuff bones, curious to know if you've encountered frozen water pipes etc or is the insulation enough to keep it clear?
I haven't until this week! I mention it in my new Q&A session here: th-cam.com/video/O7nq2N9fSdM/w-d-xo.html

Have you thought about a stove fan to push warm air along the boat
I have one!
What did I think?
I think your chain saw needs sharpening!
You may be right! Although some of that footage was slowed down ;) Also, that cherry tree is a tough old bugger
@@mynarrowboatlife Most of what was coming out the arse end of it looked like sawdust, not chips. Ten minutes with a file will have it back in trim. 👍
@@sarkybugger5009Thanks for the tip! I will pay more attention to the arse in future…
Sharp blade will extend the run time of your batteries.. liking your video's
@@chevyimp5857 That makes sense!

I should think you would need two or three cords of wood during a year (wild guess, that), and you couldn't store that much on your boat.
I constantly collect large fallen branches on my weekly walks, and yes I do have A LOT of wood storage on board. I built it into my boat design

Aha! A nearby forest would be most helpful.
