    Yo Chris,
Back in the day we were taught to "never" clean injectors, and "always" replace injectors.
It was a big heated debate among the instructors.
But, I'm sure times have changed by now.

Being that they sell rebuild kits, maybe cleaning them is fairly okay these days. But honestly I wouldn't know. I just like to do stuff like that for the fum of it more than anything else.

Oh and these injectors are for GDI engines versus not. Maybe that has something to do with why cleaning them and rebuilding them might be okay perhaps.

Back in the day some injectors had a "special coating" on the internals of the injectors.
The cleaners were so aggressive they would wash away the coating, and soon after drivability, and misfire issues would happen.
There was no way to tell which injectors had these coatings, and which didn't.
So you can imagine how upset a customer would be after they just paid a shop to clean their injectors, and now the car runs worse.
Also, no manufacturer has a recommended maintenance interval for cleaning injectors.

@@PanzerPlatform Yes that makes sense. I can see how that would happen. I think some throttle body plates are specially coated. I think with Ford where if you clean the throttle body it'll mess up that coating and ruin your drivability as well for example.

Is it the correct tester for gdi injectors? I thought those type needed a 60-80 volt boost to open from the pcm then it drops it to 12 volts to hold them open

This injector tester indeed works for GDI injectors. As for the voltage , it's always supplied with 12 volts but the computer regulates the injector by grounding it out. The voltage spike you are talking about is about 60 volts and that voltage spike happens inside the injector itself.

Here is my video on capturing waveform of GDI injectors by backprobing the ECM with a picoscope th-cam.com/video/MU9TsQghTsA/w-d-xo.html
