There's a cited-by patent from Exxon Mobil Research (WO2019018763A) that also mentions enhanced deposit performance using cleanliness booster and controlled release friction modifier(Boron.) I suspect the oil described in this patent became the product Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40 (4B) which is known on the oil forum for its excellent HTHS performance (turbos.) Exxon and others may be relevant to what Valvoline has done because they own the additive companies (Lubrizol.) VPBR Gen 2 is probably using similar chemistry to meet low ash requirements (diesel DPF fouling.) The exxon mobil patent doesn't seem to rely on esters/an/pao blend for solvency, but chooses paraffinic group III and IV with overall "synergistic use of dispersant, viscosity modifier and cleanliness booster." It might be interesting to see how VR&P 5w30 and Mobil Delvac 1 (ESP) Advanced Synthetic 5w30 (API SP) compare in cleaning up deposits and analysis of wear metals over extended drain intervals. I suspect Mobil 1 will perform better at going past 7500 miles, but the "esters" (banana smell mystery oil) in VR&P cleans up engines faster.

I have ~1,400 miles on my first use. My 126K mile 12 year old Prius had oil consumption issues due to low friction rings. Whilst my vehicle doesn’t yet consume oil, I’m hoping this product will keep it that way. Only thing I can say so far is that the engine is much quieter running this oil. I’ve seen a lot of others making this same comment in other videos regarding this product.

Good research. Devil is in the details. We know Blue (diesel) is one time use with solvents that may clog up filter with debris n mess up cat! So, by adjusting for gas engine we can deduce that less potent formula will help with gradual removal of carbon/debris n save expensive cat. Also, Valvo would want people to keep buying their products n therefore recommend 4+ cycles. It’s a win-win…4+ oil changes and ensure carbon deposits are gone, so you see results and buy again. I am on my 2nd oil change…I took pictures of before n will take after shots at 4th oil change. Also, if NOACK number is low, we know that oil burns less…so best of both worlds will be less carbon n less oil burn! Look forward to results! At auto OEM, we do at least 5+ years product cycle planning, so I am guessing Valvo may do something similar thus patent/research date back to 5+ years prior to market launch. Cummins is engine OEM only, but auto OEMs often work with partners like Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Rousch, Shelby, Cosworth, oil OEMs, n other auto OEMs (world engine project, etc.) to learn n share costs before market launch.

There is no pattent for Restore & Protect from Valvoline or Afton Chemical, their additive supplier for this motor oil. Your patent video is about the Valvoline Blue Restore pattent, which is an entirely different product. The Valvoline Restore & Protect motor oil is just a briliant piece of marketing, as it lacks the proper base oil composition to provide the necessary solubility for engine cleaning as Blue Restore does. Your efforts and intentions were good, but unfortunately, they were totally wasted.

They didn't bother to put a fusebox in the cabin?!? Is there a good spot up under the dash to mount an auxiliary fusebox? That would at least prevent you from having to run multiple wires through the firewall every time you wanted to add an accessory.🤷‍♂

Vavoline is very good oil.. I’m my Corolla GR performance turbocharged car I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum also great oil and I change the oil every 2500 miles.

Just wondering if this oil can be used on n54 motors. There’s no euro restore and protect version of this oil. Wonder if there’s any cons using it.

Ok all respect people wanna get what they want understood but as a mechanic I’ve never recommended valvoline or super tech because of the lack of quality personally I implore you to try liqui moly they have every lubricant you can think of other than coolant and the lack of specifications on valvoline should be the biggest red flag as a driver and racer I recommend do a liqui moly engine flush and then use the correct viscosity for your car but use the green bottle of moly gen or whatever is best recommended for your car I recommend shop online it’s as cheap as mobile one in most cases but it’s the best you can buy I implore all to try it you will not go wrong but it’s the best of the best and they are the only company sponsoring F1 races signed with the f1 commission and they are the only company where almost all products in their line is for gasoline and diesel vehicles with or without tubos and with or without particulate filters

I am waiting to see long term use results before making a switch. This is the only oil that has made me consider switching from amsoil (from a loyalty standpoint). Innovation is key for any product and its market.

About 300 miles into oil in a ‘03 Toyota matrix with 350k on it. Already seeing some baked on deposits coming off the baffle in the oil fill hole. Gotta say it’s working.

Something is happening in my 350k ecotec with this oil. I'm on my first oil change with this product. It sent my filter into bypass before the 500 mile mark. Changed the filter, and put a few hours idling on it. Im opening up the engine for a timing chain and valve stem seal replacement, I will also drop the pan due to the clogged filter. No engine noise, if anything it quieted down a lifter tick it had. It seems to smoke less, though

A couple questions if I may. In Table I formulation #4 has a Priolube 1973 content of 50. Is this a percentage of the total formulation? Also, would R&P be safe to run in an old John Deere garden tractor that currently consumes a fair amount of oil?

Thanks for the video. I bought a new 2025 Honda Pilot and do not like the fact that nearly all new cars have direct injection into the cylinder, which means no gasoline injection on top of the intake valves to prevent carbon buildup. Any oil vapor passing through the PCV valve or getting past the valve stem seals will end up depositing carbon on top of the intake valves. Also variable cylinder management, which shuts off some cylinders means oil blowby into the cylinder causing carbon build, and potentially fuel past the piston rings into the oil causing fuel dilution. Modern engine design to meet govt emissions and fuel economy mandates is crap. I started using restore and protect on this new engine, and plan to use it continuously. I read on the Valvoline site that the oil vapor passing through the PCV valve into the intake air will contain the additive package and will prevent carbon build on top of the intake valves (I was concerned the additives would be left behind). They say that any oil getting past the valve stem seals which runs down the stem onto the top of the valve will also prevent carbon build. It will also help with the cylinder management issue. I predict a great future for shops that provide walnut shell blasting to remove carbon from the tops of intake valves. My only concern is from 540ratblog, where he claims you cannot have oil that cleans cylinder walls while also maintaining the necessary oil film layer. He believes the "cleaning" of the cylinder walls will result in major wear issues. But he has no testing data to back up those claims. The reading of the patent indicates that in addition to carbon removal (cleaning), there is chemical bonding to the metal walls which would add a layer of protection.

Hey, is this for the restore and protect or for the premium blue restore? These are very different products and this patent date lines up pretty well with the blue restore oil.

Formula #4 is definitely Valvoline Pure Blue Restore (VPBR; $80/gal) for diesel engines. I've used it so far for two oil changes and each time the drain oil was a bit darker along with the filter element in my 2016 Toyota Highlander. No hard particles were found in the filter but seems to be cleaning things up in an otherwise well taken care of engine with 117k on it.

I call it restore the neglect ! I know most change there oil religiously but this oil pricey and needs to be changed out like any other oil ! Bottom line just use a good ILSAC GF6 oil and change it out every 4 to 5k !

I put some in 2 days ago. Flows like water. Serious. 5 - w30 Restore and Protect looks thinner than 5 - w30 Max Life that I have been using.

Honda oil filters are rebranded Fram. Good enough for 3,000 miles I suppose. I definitely would not pay OEM prices however. Save your money and do more frequent oil changes, especially with typical Honda fuel dilution issues.

Will this oil work on the Toyota 2.4l engine that has an oil problem?

I always change my own oil & filter, which I did yesterday. I used the new Valvoline Restore and Protect in my 2011 KIA Sorento.

It doesn't work that quickly. You've got to run it consistently over about 12k miles for it to complete it's "flush".
