- The Somewhere in Time film music score was written by John Barry. The film's soul-stirring romantic story is magnified by Roger Williams's magnificent piano performance of Rachmaninoff’s, "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" and the theme song, "Somewhere in Time." This is Roger's recording without orchestration, and the orchestral version can be heard on our channel: • Somewhere In Time . Roger received his last gold record for this recording.
"Somewhere in Time" stars Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer, and was filmed at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. "Somewhere in Time" was Reeve’s favorite movie and has become a cult film, growing popularity years after its release. The story is of a young writer who sacrifices his life in the present to find happiness in the past, where true love awaits him. Young Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) is approached by an elderly woman who gives him an antique gold watch and pleads with him to come back to her.

Fantastic piece that leads into the main score from the movie composed by the late, great John Barry. Magnificent movie, Magnificent music, Magnificent cast. The perfect movie. Saw it in High School and instantly fell in love. 25 years+ later and still one of the finest films I've ever had the pleasure to see....and hear!😊
I love this movie. It left me with tears in my eyes and every time I play the theme I think of how short life is and how much I will miss my family at the end of it.

❤ greetings from coastal Mississippi. one of my favourite movies. With the opening line "Come back to me", you are swept into 1912. Filmed on location at the Grand Hotel...This is the only movie that makes me cry 😢. Met Jane at the Somewhere in Time Festival.

Great montage. Great movie. It actually slipped under my radar and I had never seen it. But, thanks to Mary Lewis, a girl I went to school with, she kind of 'forced' her vhs copy of this film on me over 20 years ago as she was so smitten with it. I'm glad she did.

This is a piano solo transcription, with variations, of what might be the three most beautiful minutes of music ever written - The eighteenth variation of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Do yourself a favor and go listen to the full orchestral version, followed by listening to Rachmaninoff's second and third piano concertos, etc.

What is happening when Richard is outside by a window. Someone seems to be pulling something down inside. Does anyone know?
Richard is searching for her and after someone pulls down the blind, the reflection on the window then allows us to see that he spotted her by the water, as his facial expression changes.
@@RogerWilliamsMusic Thank you. I obviously missed that. That is probably why he is not in the center of the screen and is off to one side. The closing of the blind seemed so rushed for some reason. Maybe that is why it threw me off.
I think this theme inspired the main theme in Final Fantasy viii (ff8)

James, have you ever been to Mackinac Island in northern Michigan where it was filmed? The Grande Hotel is a sight to behold. They also do a Somewhere in Time weekend every year. It is a must see/must do bucket list experience.
@@christinekroll8784 No Christine, I have never been there, but I understand that cars are not allowed, but the book that inspired this movie was at the Hotel Coronado in San Diego, Bid Time Return by Richard Matheson, the book is much darker than the movie, both are great and the movie was one of those forbidden movies that football jocks and ladies men like me were not allowed to watch much less love! I secretly liked Grease too.

I'm from Michigan & went to Mackinaw Island many times. I'm a big bike rider (even now) years later, & that's how I traveled the Island. It's magical there. I live in NY now, but visit my family & friends in Michigan yearly.
