80%-90% of the people on the spectrum are underemployed or unemployed. Think of it they are qualified in spite of some glaring obstacles. They overcome on a regular basis by their ability to stay focused, visualize, innovate, problem solve. The nuances in communication holds back their ability to reach their potential. Integrate and all of us will adapt because isolation is not a solution. One thing it will remove is double speak.

I think this is the first time I've seen this in TV. And if only this amazing, wonderful, awe-inspiring speech was given to the world I can't help but think what a difference it would make.

As a person with autism watching this, it the most moving video and bought tears to my eyes! I sympathize with Sean because I am going through a similar journey. Being autistic in the science field is a big cross to carry. People often underestimate our intellectual abilities, more so when it involves interacting with people. So many times, I’ve been so close to a job or internship with people saying, “but he has a disability”. I always say back, what you see as a disability I see as my ability!

Can you please explain something for me..What do you mean when you say, "what you see as my disability, I see as my ability." I am not autistic and I apologize for my ignorance, but I do wish to understand autism a bit more.

Damn, Richard Schiff's still got it! I still go back to West Wing and love the conviction he puts into his character, and it's a delight to see that at work here.

we should not discriminate people who have disabilities, we should treat them the same although they have syndrome or disabilities that makes them different. Let's just not forget that every human has their own struggle and we're not perfect

"A surgeon needs to communicate ... sympathy, empathy."
    I don't think that's true.
"Can he do that, knowing that a human life literally hangs in the balance?"
I don't think any life literally hanging in the balance is going to be at risk because of a lack of sympathy or empathy.
    That's just nonsense.

Pathetic speech for people with McDonald's syndrome (McDS) infront of their televisions.
