Dear prof. Saad, thank you, thank you, thank you. You are so spot on and your sarcasm is priceless. I used to be a huge follower of Lex way back when he was focused on science and technology. His guests were luminaries in different fields from physics to quantum computing. How did it go so wrong? I tweeted, reached out via IG and even LinkedIn to ask Lex to stand up and act like the person he really is, a Russian Jewish man. What a pity! What a waste! He could be so influential in raising the awareness about the true situation in Israel and the growing antisemitism in the diaspora given his huge following. His interview with Netanyahu was an early tip off. Then, after 10/7 came his interview with Elon Musk who was preaching to the Israelis to just turn the other cheek and with John Meirsheimer (too infuriating to even discuss). So I am so glad that you share my sentiment about Lex (I'm dismissing Greta outright). I only wish that you were at Concordia when I was studying there, almost 30 years ago. Be well.
I like Lex. He has a certain kind of wisdom that works in peacetime. It does not work in times of war. One of the many problems with our current age is that different types of people don’t recognize when it’s their time to shine and their time to sit down and listen. That kind of humility isn’t fashionable. Social media gurus must comment sagely on everything, even when it lies far from their area of expertise, knowledge, or even natural inclination. Now is a time for hard, mature, realistic men. Yes, I said men. I’m a woman and I would feel a lot better hearing from these types of men right now.

Been studying some of the history of Islam - it's sad how this once great civilisation was held back from englightenment by fundamentalist movements that gained the upper hand such as the Ash'ari in 12C and Wahabism which was used by the House of Saud to declare other tribes infidels in order to conquer them. Fortunately, the vast majority of muslims don't subscribe to the texts literally despite the best efforts of Wahabbis and Diobandi's to export it.
I have to admit I appreciate you pointing out the faults in lex. I think he is incredibly naive. I enjoy his podcast. This is mainly due to how amazing his guests are. So all credit to him. He is a 40 year old gifted student that never left school. As Schopenhauer would say, lex spent his entire life reading about events without living them.
I’m not so sure about that. He regularly goes straight into difficult areas to assess the situation first hand (Ukraine, Palestinian Territory-West Bank). He also lived in Soviet Russia. That’s a fair amount of non textbook experience. More than most all of us. With that said, I agree with Professor Saads sentiment, “Now is not the time for that naive Lex. STFU.”
I don't really trust anyone's view on this if they have some kind of metaphorical "dog in the fight." There are multiples layers of tribalism involved in this conflict. The religious Judaism/Christianity v. Islam divide is just the façade which, at the end of the day, is really just a false dichotomy. Underneath that is a political dichotomy where left/right centrists are aligned against left/right radicals because of multitude of different factors...namely anti-colonialism, anti-Americanism, anti-Semitism, anti-Europeanism, and purported anti-fascism. This creates some strange bedfellows to say the least. You'll see secular libertarians motivated purely by politics aligning themselves with religious authoritarians. Then there is the ethnic component of it all, which is sort of hiding in plain view behind the other two layers of conflict. It's just a complete mess, and I fear it can't possibly end well. Really, this is my first time on the channel, and it took me a few times hearing how "enlightened" he is, while simultaneously conveying an imagine of someone condescending and self-righteous, before I realized he was low-key roasting this Lex guy.
Alex and Greta 😂! As a scientist (genetic biologist) I started watching LF's TH-cam but all that nonsense about love and its religious "fighters" drains my energy. It's funny that Lex never detects signs of psychopathy in anyone or stupidity, he's a great "illuminated". No one better than Mr. Saad to equalize all that gelatin!! 😁😁 Very very fun as always!!😂😂😂 High intellectual Mr Saad who is able to speak clearly and with humanity. ❤🙏
And also, let's be honest: a big chunk of Lex's audience must be people sleeping, literally. He competes against "rain sounds for sleeping" and "white noise, black screen" videos for sure. At least that's how I use his podcast.
I used to like Lex but when he started being political he just showed how much of a Jesus complex he really has. He truly, not in a literary manner, but he really believes he is Prince Myshkin in real life, Jesus reborn and Lex's love for everybody will save the world. Forget history, its all love and peace everyone
This is sad. The idea that an adult would make a decision based on what some foolish child thinks, just because they dislike her opinions so much, should be embarrassing. But unlike most Israel supporters, I won’t claim that the existence of this kind of pettiness and foolishness within their ranks necessarily means that all of their arguments are bad. I still don’t know which side to believe; but what I can say for sure is that one side is pretending that there is no such thing as slight of hand.
The "Israel-Palestine" issue needs no side taken if you have no dog in the fight. Just condemn all the murder and hatred and call it a day. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. The only moral interaction you can have with the conflict is one of maintaining peace and condemning violence. It's just that simple.
"Call it a day." By all means, let's do that, and sleep well because up here on Mt. Olympus, we are above such petty squabbles. Why don't those guys just act like us? Now, if you will excuse me, I need to sharpen my lightning bolts.
I listen to Lex when I can't seem to find sleep. Upon listening to the marvelous mind of Mr. Friedman I feel a sudden urge to enter the realm of sleep.
Gad has provided straight truth, truth in metaphor, and truth with a humorous twist. These things are greatly appreciated by someone who loves the complex art of communication.
I stopped listening to Lex and Sam for a while now for the same reasons but different manifestwtions. Theyre both focused entirely on thrmselves and have lost all intellectual humility. Sam thinks he knows everything. Lex thinks everybody just needs to think like him and the world will be saved.
Lex is nothing like Sam Harris. Lex has never been a militant atheist and Sam Harris has always been hard on Islam , far more hard on Islam than he is on religion in general. It appears you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
I don't think any powerful, unseen force is "retiring" Sam Harris. Sadly, his TDS and sudden lack of common sense and decency has led many people to not listen to him, and, I am sure, pay for his podcasts.
I used to love Lex’s podcast but honestly life has ups and downs therefore it’s not possible to find the positivity and ‘light’ in for example, Jeffrey Dahmer! Then I just had to stop watching and following him
i have known thousands of muslims in my lifetime and a handful of jews. the love and respect I recieved from jews as a muslim has been a hundred times more than I got from muslims, including my family and relatives. I was fortunate enough as a young person to experience this and know who's good and who's not. let's not bs each other. on the surface many people are good, want to be good. but these individual have deep seeded issues that causes them to be less human. I speak from decades of personal experience. some of these sick minds, when you love and respect them without ulterior motive, laugh at you. at how naive ans stupid you are for not realizing that they'll stab you in the back when you least expect it. so don't be stupid like I have been. you wanna know hate, go live among them for a few years. don't just visit a few days and say how friendly and hospitalbe they are
Faux positivity is the correct label for his brand. Glad others see it. It's okay to be positive, it's okay to reserve judgement, but to never take a stance on anything is positively suicidal.
It's just self-interested. Why take sides when you can just be friends with everyone? Whoever wins a conflict, you'll be there ready to be their friend as all your other "friends" just got murdered. Doesn't matter, you're still there!
He doesn't actually seem terribly positive to me. For the most part he seems disappointed. I would actually disagree that he doesn't take a stance of anything. I think you just disagree with his stances.
the fact that you don't appreciate his podcasts says more about you than about him. He has podcast with the most interesting people in the world, and from all ways of life.
I don’t mind Lex Fridman too much, but I think you’re spot on Gad! He does try to be all things to all people. Thank you Gad you’re always on the money.
Very glad to hear this. One of Lex's videos popped up on autoplay and I almost drove off the road. He's an idiot that doesn't live in the real world. He is one of the most aloof commentators imaginable. TH-cam/social media has made many commentators more famous than they are supposed to be. This event that took place over the last 1-2 weeks has gotten all of the worms to crawl to the surface. Its probably time for everyone of us to take a look at who we have been listening to for the last few years and do a serious analysis of who they are and what they are saying. Much of the 2010's commentators are inert. They have rode the TH-cam wave of fame but have wore out their welcome into our minds.
I avoid most people that are spewing the same garbage as "the news". Hmm what side is the news taking. In fact both political parties in the USA as well. Is like saying Trump must be terrible if even all the corrupt politicians are against him.💩
Solution - stay out of the Middle East. Deport everything and everyone from that part of the world. We ordinary people are not responsible for its ills. We are not able to fix their problems. It's long overdue that we turn our backs on this cursed land.
His solution somehow always manage to get people who belive in it killed. If you don't believe me look at what happened to the one from that music festival for love and peace.
Reminds me of that Christian who went to the tribes down in South America to try and "Save" them. Kids threw spears at him and murdered him on the spot.
You're such a good man, you've taught me so much. I'm sad for all of us that suffer from the human violation of 10-7. I'v no relationship to the religion or the inflected people, still my heart hurts. Like many, I suffer to know that another human has such a degree of hate in theirs. For every day that passes, I now thank God that that I lived another day without experiencing hell.
I enjoy Lex podcast and will continue to watch it but i understand your sentiments.. I still think however that there is value in genuinely centrist, love-based ideas and commentary.
Many years ago I was told by an old man that there is just enough Religion in the world for people to hate each other, but not enough to love each other or to let each other be.
My go to person is Kamala Harris. When you think about it, time just moves along in a significant fashion. The significance of the passage of time is not appreciated like it should be. And I may miss the significance of important things from time to time. But not the significance of the passage of time itself. Thanks to Kamala, I’ve got a handle on that one.
On the whole, I don't mind Lex's interviews, but I don't know why people hold him up as some great thinker/mind. The guy has trouble getting a sentence out and his questions/dialogue/thinking is hard to follow sometimes, not because I don't understand what he's saying, but because on the surface, what he says makes no sense.
Thank you for being the one to finally call him out on his bullshit. I don’t know how anyone can sit through an entire Lex Friedman podcast without wanting to jump off a bridge in the name love.
We're all children now or at least the media is treating us as if we are. Do this, do that, believe this, believe that and if we have any criticism or questions we get..quieted.
And thus we put an end to love on planet earth. Eye for an eye and tooth for tooth seems to be the only way we know how to settle disputes any more. They kill yours, you kill theirs. I really don’t want to live with the last people standing after we’ve all killed each other.
To be fair, Lex has been to the warzones. He's talked to Palestinian street vendors and locals and uploaded a video. He doesn't just sit in his house. However I find he's hiding something or being a hypocrite because he'd rather talk to Putin and Hitler than sit down with you. In light recent events few have stuck to their principles... Murray, Kelley, Rubin, have all backtracked on freedom of speech. Thank you for sticking to your principles
If he’s been to war zones then how did he come to the conclusion that loving your neighbors who want to kill you and your family/community is the answer? Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire…that means dropping some bombs.
@letzrock1675 well he has been to warzones, not if. You can watch the videos on his channel. He's blinded by this idea that you can just love everyone and compassion away all the violence. He'd be right if he weren't talking about 4th century barbarians
@@marshal6013 still awaiting his videos from Ukraine… He name dropped it so many times now and keeps referring to it but it feels like virtue signalling.
I agree 100% with you on Fridman. The guy seems to be in love with abstractions and ideas, regardless of how they contradict observable reality. And it is a sign of the times that so many people fawn over him.
@@BetaBuxDeluxhes like that because he thinks hes the idiot from the dostoevsky novel. It had a certain child like charm at first but increasingly got more annoying.
So what is going on with Gabor Matè? I have heard long commentary from other Jews too (who’s family members were holocaust survivors) but they support Palestine?!
I hope the two of you can sort this out in an open conversation. You'd seem to be one of the best people to interview on this subject and I'm shocked he'd block you instead of invite you. Perhaps Rogan can act as an intermediary for a discussion? I think we could all benefit from it.
Gaad comes across as a blowhard with an entirely too smug attitude. Smartest guy in the room and everybody’s his “good friend”. Unfortunately, I don’t have to listen to know that you too, do not have the answer Gaad. No one does, cause there’s not a good one. One side is going to have to give up more than they would ever be willing to and that’s where the conversation stops. Always.
Probably the most brilliant wisdom uttered in this entire conflict. Professor Saad is amazing. Thank you for opening my mind to the words that perfectly express how lost these protesters for Palestine are. I subscribed.
I am so happy I recently found you. You are truly brilliant. Thank you for cracking down on all the BS of this crazy world with your superb sarcasm. 👏👏🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏🙏 Keep it up. Already looking forward to your next input.
Oh boy. Here we go again. I had left a comment pointing out to those who would state, "all religions teach love...", that there exists a certain peaceful religion's holy writings which command its followers to make a certain other group of people go away. Guess what? The comment is gone. Let's see if this one stating the same *fact* disappears too.
I have experienced similar results. YT has a tendency (always) to remove (censor) blatant, direct, succinct & factual terminology, so the necessity for creative writing is developed.
Dear Prof Gad, I'm impressed by your profound knowledge and remarkable ingenuity, which surpasses that of ordinary individuals like Lex. Your perception of Lex, as if he is speaking from a higher plane of existence and looking down on you, doesn't stem from Lex's actions but rather from your current state of being, which you consider to be of a lesser nature.
This recent Israeli conflict has really shined a light on who are sincere in their beliefs and who are grifters. I'm happy and unsurprised to see you are immune to the grift.
I happen to be someone who likes Lex's podcast. When I first watched him on the Joe Rogan podcast, I was a bit irked with his sharing poetry and being the way he is. But having listened to him for well over a year, this is him. He is almost exactly like Prince Myshkin from The Idiot. And while his love for the world and interpreted naivety is a bit...I don't know how to describe it. But this is truly him, he has a child-like love for the world that you don't often find in a lot of podcasts hosts and that is also why he has such a following. He might say things like what Dr Saad points out above, but you can see the rigour of thought with the people he interviews. It might be naivety and all-positivity that is so...misplaced (?) but he is doing his bit.
AFAIC he is not really doing "his bit". There are many interviews I have watched and enjoyed with him for sure and i'll give him all the credit for those. But having controversial guests on your show just spewing their crackpot conspiracies without pushback is just adding noise in an already very polluted media landscape. And as Gad rightly mentions, it isn't without consequence given the size of his audience. Nobody should be censored, but that doesn't mean that Lex has an obligation to set certain viewpoints in the spotlight.
I too really like Lex's podcasts. I take what I can from them and leave whatever doesn't suit my worldview, just like I do with everything else I gather from the Internet.
wow Gad , STANDING OVATION! Especially on Fridman, I have been waiting for someone to call his nonsense out. This is just not the time for his annoying "love and light" crap. And so well said, "a 40 yr old child". Bravo

I love the absolute superhuman use of sarcasm in Saad's responses
Really, this is my first time on the channel, and it took me a few times hearing how "enlightened" he is, while simultaneously conveying an imagine of someone condescending and self-righteous, before I realized he was low-key roasting this Lex guy.
@@emidareit's hilarious😆
I actually just woke up from an hour long nap to lex talking to some economist lol
Brilliant!! You said it beautifully! I love your straight-faced irony ❣️
It is people just like Lex who end up being the downfall of all of us. They think you can smile and hug the evil out of people. Love you, Gad!!
I used to like Lex but when he started being political he just showed how much of a Jesus complex he really has. He truly, not in a literary manner, but he really believes he is Prince Myshkin in real life, Jesus reborn and Lex's love for everybody will save the world. Forget history, its all love and peace everyone
His daily LinkedIn posts of his deep thoughts while on a run, accompanied by a selfie, are a lot.
yep.. and religion of piss leakin out the closet
Never been able to stand Lex. He MUST be controlled opposition!
God Bless you Gad

Greta siding with Palestinians makes me more pro Israel than I’ve ever been!
How dare you!
@@drlca6601well said, thank you.
"Call it a day." By all means, let's do that, and sleep well because up here on Mt. Olympus, we are above such petty squabbles. Why don't those guys just act like us? Now, if you will excuse me, I need to sharpen my lightning bolts.
TH-cam keeps recommending Lex to me. I once listened for 10 minutes & he puts me to sleep. Same way Sam Harris puts me to sleep.
Sam is a sleep meditation tape
I listen to Lex when I can't seem to find sleep. Upon listening to the marvelous mind of Mr. Friedman I feel a sudden urge to enter the realm of sleep.
Gad has provided straight truth, truth in metaphor, and truth with a humorous twist. These things are greatly appreciated by someone who loves the complex art of communication.
Thank you, Gad. A beautiful voice of reason in a growing tornado of bullshit.
Your cutting sarcasm kills me Gad, well done sir and all true by the way
They're retiring Sam Harris and bringing out the new model, Lex Fridman. 🤖
I stopped listening to Lex and Sam for a while now for the same reasons but different manifestwtions. Theyre both focused entirely on thrmselves and have lost all intellectual humility. Sam thinks he knows everything. Lex thinks everybody just needs to think like him and the world will be saved.
Good one lmao
Until you said it, I hadn't seen it, but dang!! You are RIGHT.
"40 YO child" 🤣
totally brilliant episode
I enjoy Lex's podcast and don't have a reason to abandon it, yet I agree with Gad
I agree. Nothing wrong with getting a variety of perspectives.
I used to love Lex’s podcast but honestly life has ups and downs therefore it’s not possible to find the positivity and ‘light’ in for example, Jeffrey Dahmer! Then I just had to stop watching and following him
I find his monotone delivery like nails on a chalkboard!
Same
I will be listening to both of them still, doesn’t matter that they don’t get on.
i have known thousands of muslims in my lifetime and a handful of jews. the love and respect I recieved from jews as a muslim has been a hundred times more than I got from muslims, including my family and relatives.
Lex doesn't influence anyone. Most people fall into a deep coma in the first -minute of his podcast.
yes he does. and that is why gad fights him.
He's one of those high-IQ dumb guys
…and as soon as he starts to romance the stone in love, I’m out.
Most boring podcasts I've ever watched was ANY lex podcasts. Obviously
the fact that you don't appreciate his podcasts says more about you than about him.
Ok you were being ironic...😂
lmfao!!! I feel the same way. He opens his mouth and it actually triggers me from the stench of BS he spews.
*Mumble mumble mumble chuckle chuckle Socialism something something* Lex Friedman, 2023.
hahaha...great comment! i am so sick of them all...
I avoid most people that are spewing the same garbage as "the news". Hmm what side is the news taking. In fact both political parties in the USA as well. Is like saying Trump must be terrible if even all the corrupt politicians are against him.💩
Just LOVE professor Saad when he's not sad but SALTY! 😂
Prof. Saad is the master of satirical and deadpan comedy; the gravity joke had me rolling.
@mcjeebus ikr. All these liberal progressive people just have this pie in the sky kumbaya mentality which is very disastrous.

What's the solution, Lex?
Love is the solution. Only Love.
Thanks, Lex. Great help. 10/10.
Well, accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior would indeed solve it for all parties involved.
Reminds me of that Christian who went to the tribes down in South America to try and "Save" them. Kids threw spears at him and murdered him on the spot.
Lex is the ultimate man child
That was some top tier passive aggression.
Lex has become a meme with his "love" is the solution to everything lmao
Like Chuck Norris.
Yeah, Jesus said the same thing and look at what happened to him.
2,000 years later we are still crucifying those who speak about loving each other.
@@MaTeTris At least Jesus wasn't so ignorant to claim that all religions teach love.

We've needed someone from greats to call out lex. Many of us have felt this way about hm for a while 👌
I enjoy Lex podcast and will continue to watch it but i understand your sentiments.. I still think however that there is value in genuinely centrist, love-based ideas and commentary.
Yes and these values have names like CTR, AVD, CPM, RPM, SERP, pre/mid-roll… The list goes on and on and on. So many values.

Thank you Gad! We need strong voices like yours during these difficult times!
Well said and well put Sir, thank you for your work! Please keep doing what you’re doing!

Gad, an amazing analysis, both entertaining and spot-on! Thanks so much!!
I wish Lex didn't block you. I like both of you.
Beautifully put, and I dearly hope that lovely loving Lex will have a discussion with you at some point.
I agree 100% with you on Fridman. The guy seems to be in love with abstractions and ideas, regardless of how they contradict observable reality. And it is a sign of the times that so many people fawn over him.

And yet here he is not saying anything good and still saying it.
So what is going on with Gabor Matè? I have heard long commentary from other Jews too (who’s family members were holocaust survivors) but they support Palestine?!
I remember when Bill Clinton had gotten Israel to agree to a 2 state solution and Arrafat said no. Not sure where you go from there.
So it's Clinton's way or the highway, huh.
Always.

The sarcasm is golden.
