- Former US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka comes up against No. 2 seed Simona Halep in the quarterfinals of the US Open 2015.
Former World No. 1 Azarenka, has twice finished runner-up to Serena Williams at Flushing Meadows in 2012 and 2013. While Halep has never advanced beyond the fourth round at the US Open.
Azarenka and Halep have played twice previously, with Halep winning just six games in four sets. However, those matches were both back in 2012, when Azarenka was at the top of the rankings and Halep had not yet initiated her rapid ascent up the rankings.
Now the 23-year-old Romanian has climbed to No. 2 in the world, while the 26-year-old Belarusian is down to No. 20 after a couple of injury-racked seasons.
Both players are known for their fiery temperaments, but who will keep their cool to progress to the semifinals?

@@wassamhashmi Simona Halep on February 3, 2020 broke Martina Hinghis' record of consecutive weeks in the top 10 that was dated 18 years ago! She currently occupies the first place among active players and among the top 8 of all time! Serena Williams is not in this ranking, much less Djokovic etc etc because here it is about women!!

@@trademark9476 Simona is one of the more petite and smaller players on tour so most girls might have the power edge on her which is why it's so impressive that she has remain a top tier player for almost a decade.
But she has reached 4 slam finals since then and won two of them! The most recent being Wimbledon where she is still the defending champion you don't get results like that by being passive
She reluctant to go for winners and put herself out it position or commit unforced errors but yes she is still a top player.

Is it just me or do the strokes from Halep look more powerful and flatter than now. Her forehand looks to have more depth than when she won Roland Garros.
If you’re playing with more topspin it doesn’t mean that you can’t get depth. In fact Simona achieved so much on clay because she found depth with her lifted forehand.
@@_o..o_1871 i know that but her forehand looked more powerful and dealt more damage. I know topspin and playing with more margin helps but sometimes it looks like she doesn't hit through the ball. I am not hating her tho, I just wish that she would flatten her Forehand sometimes a little more.
I agree with you. Her shots look more penetrating in this match than nowadays and she was also going for more winners back then, as I think the stats reflect.
