    Hi. Did you ever overcome the problem in joining the two halves? This was very informative I have tried to create a similar shape before for a woodworking project but I struggled.

      Hi, Globean did this on his/her channel and was able to combine the 2 halves at the end. I have yet to go through the whole video to see if anything was done differently. You can take a look.

      I think the problem occurs at the 05.15. The the two profiles on different planes do not create a hexagon. The horizontal hexagon edges are 22.98mm and the edges on the angled part are 25mm.

    • @Fusion360School
      @Fusion360School  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ChrisCameronPhoto Hi, I had suspected that for some time. So I went to download the file (done in SolidWorks) from GrabCAD done by Easy CAD Solutions. When I opened it in Fusion 360, I saw that the hexagon was not perfect also. In fact, when I compared my model with the SolidWorks model, I could not tell the difference. I also posted a question to Easy CAD Solutions regarding the imperfect hexagon but have yet to get a reply. I pretty much followed all dimensions to a tee. Globean, another channel, was able to follow my video and successfully combine the 2 halves.😅

    very nice guide. Very calm and accurate. I usually find that guides such as this skip one or two steps that are obvious to the creator or an experienced user.
    But us noobs have no idea of what i going on.
    This guide was very well executed

    Very interesting and the length was well justified. I’m glad to see that you found a resolution with the help of viewers. I enjoy that in this video, like your others, you just jump right in rather than having a lengthy prelude.

    Instead of the final mirror and move, what about creating a horizonal axis at the sphere center then performing a 180 deg circular pattern about that? The patterned bodies seemed to merge fine in other places.

    • @Fusion360School
      @Fusion360School  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wow, I tried this and it works even at a precision of 1.123. I would have never thought of using a circular pattern that way. That's really good thinking on your part. It does seem strange that putting an axis at the centroid would be more accurate than placing a construction plane, though.

    Great exercise and excellent teaching, I overcome the problem of joining the 2 halves by simply continuing the process of move/copy rotating along the green axis the bodies and then doing a circ pattern along the blue axis. Basically you build the sphere layer by layer. It' not that difficult, maybe a little bit longer. But at the end the combine is perfect and you get a single body. If you need I can share you the file😉

    IDK if this has been answered before in the comments, but I think what gets the last two pieces to not merge properly is the definition of the mirror plane. When you create an offset plane and select a point fusion will per default measure the distance an put the distance in the box, without any parametric link to the point you selected. Because the floating point precision in fusion is somewhat low you'll therefore get a plane that is not exactly at the centerpoint. If you go back and edit the plane and choose extent to object instead of distance you will get the definition of the plane as a parametric relationship, and it should work.

    • @Fusion360School
      @Fusion360School  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There a was lengthy discussion in the comment that I pinned. I think the conclusion was that it was a precision problem. When you click on the point, Fusion somehow rounds off the distance.
      Anyway, I went back to the model and tried both ways (choosing distance and clicking on the point/choosing to object and clicking on the point). Both ways worked this time round.
      One of the viewers had actually submitted a change request for this. So it seems like it has been resolved.

  • @Cam2Art

      Thank you. I have never had anyone describing my tutorials as entertaining before! I was slightly worried that viewers might be turned off by the length, but I did try my best to be as concise as possible. There is just so much to cover in this case.
      I did not approach the forum. I was kind of hoping for some feedback from viewers who have tried to see if they faced the same issue.

    That is a truncated pentakis dodecahedron. What you can do is create an icosahedron, make the divisions, project the vertices onto the sphere circumscribing the icosahedron, then you won't need to split the center and do all of that. It'll take some work, but the end result would be a perfect honey comb without those fillet errors.

    • @Fusion360School

    16:44 I think that took Fusion about 2 minutes to perform lol (I thought it had crashed but it pulled through as I was typing this comment)
    About the combine at the end: I combined before punching the holes through and it just worked. Took a few seconds for Fusion to think, but the result is 1 perfect body. Where you use 100mm(?) I used 10m, maybe the scale matters? I made that value parametric and had all other constraints derive from it, but I fear Fusion will explode if I change the param value.
