Awesome video Mandee!! Congrats again to you guy and congrats to Ryan. I am heading to Port Royal tonight for the Living Legends Dream Race. So I will talk to couple of the engine builders I know and see if they know anything that will help. I know they mainly build Sprints and Late Model engines. Might be something they’ve seen before. P.S. I loved your story on IG about the people looks. Been there many times before.
First off, nice fkkng job on the win, you are 100% Mike, and team. CONGRATS. Are you blowing up just big blocks or both ? I need to win the lottery and send you a half dozen new racing engines. Your just needing to get that bad luck GONE. Thank you for sharing Mandee.
I figured I didn't have to mention this below also but remove & "DISASSEMBLE" all the components to flush and clean out or replace. Contamination was the first thought I had when you said it's always the same issue even though engines are from different builders.
Awesome run, car was on rails! My guess is an oiling issue, maybe change pump manufacturer, change lines, flush n flush everything. But I'm sure you know that. Got to have that positive attitude, its an inspiration to young racers! Good luck1
Boy I hope your Luck Changes, when - not if - it changes you will have a wealth of knowledge from this experience. After hanging around an Engine Builders Shop when I was younger a few things come to mind. Back in the 80's there was a big problem with TRW Piston Slugs that grew way to much and locked up in the bore. The Master of going Faster (my friend) thought it was something he did -- it was not. Changed to different Manufacture -- problem gone. If a wet Sump Motor Oil Pick up to Pan Clearance is Crucial as you know. Is an Accusump Legal ? Fuel distribution through Intake concerns can burn pistons. Lastly air trapped in Heads(cooling system) can spike temp in local areas causing concerns.I'm pretty sure you have been down all these roads. Best of Luck -- hope Luck changes.
Well done mike good drive, and good onboards mandee,it really showed how good the car was going, until it wasn't. I'm no engine builder,so i cant help ,I mean most hi-perf engine builders who do it for a living, would had built plenty motors, and could surely narrow down the reasons why your having con rod, bearing probs ?anyways i hope someone can work it out for you, anyways well done to all involved in mikes win....
Its really tough to win and than have such terrible luck. Been watching all your videos to keep up with all your adventures living down here in Florida but I am moving back to NJ in Sept.and hope to be able to meet you both. Maybe you'll be able to race at Bridgeport sometime soon.
Just a guess based off of what I am hearing. But it could be a variation of harmonics, possibly something to do with the crank shaft. Such as too much movement forward and backwards in the thrust bearing clearance. Or the crank shaft is played out. Moreover there could also be a timing issue, to go along with the above. Quite possibly, when the cam was degreed in, it wasn't done within tolerance. Needless to say I would say that it will be something that will not be that difficult to correct.
What a tough deal breaking two motors. Thoughts: 1. Are you sure the oil isn’t captivating someplace I.E. getting air into it and foaming it up? Just cause it’s showing good pressure doesn’t mean the oil isn’t getting whipped up. 2. Is the motor showing any detonation damage or other weird issues running. A local sprint car team was losing a motor (410) about every other night and finally figured out it was contaminated fuel that was causing their issues.
Congratulations on the win!!!!!! Awesome job. Sorry about the motor. I learned a long time ago that no team no matter how big or how small cannot afford motor issues. But hey, look at the bright side, you go home with Mandy.
i wonder if Mike using a new oil pan we run a supermodified a put a new pan on our rebuit motor and it threw a rod out the side we have run for over 40 years and never had a rod brake our findings were the oil tubes in the pan were touching the bottom of the pan and no oil would go under the tubes and it looked like rod caps were not getting enough oil and you could see the rod bearing was getting discolored we got a new pan and no more problems hope this helps good luck the rest of the year
my brother a mcanic always told me that after you put a new motor together you put in the oil hook up the water excetra- and start it and run it for at least an hour at about 2000 RPM'S and its either going to stay to gather or fly apart.youl know then. the rings have to seat and the motor has to break in.well as much as it can as a racing motor. . i am guessing your team already does this or the builder does this. you know how they ware because when you drain the oil after a race and strain the oil there's a bunch of metal dust in the screen .
Nothing left to say about this bad luck crap at this point. Last year it was a variety of things but constant motor breakdowns are debilitating financially. The positive is when the motor holds together you are competitively fast. Keep you heads up it has to end.
Sure that you did, but just thought I'd ask if have you been "completely" flushing and cleaning the oil system plumbing & components or even replacing. That tiny debris & junk gets into everything and can be a real bitc* to get completely cleaned out no matter where filters are located. Just a quick rinse does""not"" work... Hope you nail down what's going on, good luck.
I agree with "completely" flushing and cleaning the oil system plumbing & components or even replacing. possibly changing the hoses and oil cooler due to possible hose collapsing under high volume during racing RPM's and possible obstructions causing restricted oil volume not pressure may still read normal
Handled some really heavy hitters... that feature lineup was full of them! Congratulations, Mike! Question - are you allowed stuff like detonation detectors, or do you just have to read the plugs? WillyB Oh......and good luck outrunning that 01 car...............
Have they checked that baffles in the oil pan .that not lossing oil pressure to parts of the oil system cause pushing the oil to front the pan away from the pump . Have had that problem before .with motors
Details in the oil system are crucial !!!! Loosing rods or bearings can be just fine debris in that system. But, there is many other factors in that equation. A good inspection of blown engine is imperative.
Do you use a mechanical oil pressure gauge, or electrical? Maybe your getting a false reading. Same oil pump going on the different motors? Highly recommend Schaffer Oil

I built many race engines HP GM would it be possible for you to send me HD pictures of your broken parts .Bent rods? Take pictures of the short block ,pan off, upside down before pistons and rods are removed. There are quite a few things that can cause rods being bent but believe it or not that really is not that common. Rod bearings okay? Rod side clearance? Does it happen to the same cyl. Any sign of valves touching piston. A floating valve spring at high rpms can touch a piston .Normally bends the valve but it can bend a rod. So can pre det. Is it running hot? After a race you shut it off then after a min or two start it does the starter struggle to turn it over? I honestly think I can help you but I don't know how I would get a hold of you I don't do social media. I really think I could solve it just by looking at good pictures and have you answer a few questions.
In the words of Jimmy V " Don't give up, don't ever give up!" 💪🏼 U r a hard worker n a great driver Mike 🏁 #35🏆 Any thoughts about switching engine builders ?
Check the suction side oil line of the dry sump pump those lines are usually high quality but I've seen a man I've worked for who runs USAC 410 sprints have 1 blown motor and a spun rod bearing on the next one they were all at a loss trying to figure out what was going on someone found the spongy suction oil line solved the problem now they change that line every year just a thought don't know but I would think your engines are dry sump I know a cheap part costs them a small fortune a bunch of frustration good luck you guys are pretty awesome 👍
Try to build a motor yourself Mike. I built a 406 modified motor after blowing three $15k motors in 7 races. The one I built lasted three years and still runs.

Thanks for the info! I will pass it on!
Try Vic Hill Engines, google it.
Nice job but you have got to leave the motor gremlins at home
Put a Dutton motor in that thing
Try Slawiak for a power plant
Contact Mullins racing engines, they do good race engine packages. And they might give you ideas why your having so much engine trouble.
Good idea!
In the words of Jimmy V " Don't give up, don't ever give up!" 💪🏼 U r a hard worker n a great driver Mike 🏁 #35🏆
Any thoughts about switching engine builders ?
Check the suction side oil line of the dry sump pump those lines are usually high quality but I've seen a man I've worked for who runs USAC 410 sprints have 1 blown motor and a spun rod bearing on the next one they were all at a loss trying to figure out what was going on someone found the spongy suction oil line solved the problem now they change that line every year just a thought don't know but I would think your engines are dry sump I know a cheap part costs them a small fortune a bunch of frustration good luck you guys are pretty awesome 👍
Thanks for the support!
Get you a Clements motor
And poor Rocky is 5th from the back
Try to build a motor yourself Mike. I built a 406 modified motor after blowing three $15k motors in 7 races. The one I built lasted three years and still runs.
Thanks for the input!
It's not every day the winner gets brought back to the pits with the wrecker.
Not a good day!
Put some more gear to it take the rpms down a little might make your motor last a little longer
Will pass it on!
Go enjoy some ice cream
Who got second
