I fondly remember Jim Byrnes when he almost took up a permanent gig at the old Yale Hotel on Vancouver's Granville St. The hotel had originally a bar for the working man crowd, but when byrnes showed up with his rockin' blues sounds that no one else in Vancouver was doing. Getting intothe place then became a 'get there early' reality.Byrnes keptthat place rocking foryears, but alas I had to move nto the interior of the province for my job, thus the ocassional trip to the coast was all I could afford with a growing family. Years later as my kids became working adults I thought of heading down to the old Yale. Sadly Byrnes was gone as well as most of the original popular bar. Nobody there, including the bartender who services a tiny temporary bar could remember when Byrnes used to play. That was about 2014. I first saw him play there in the '60s and the occasional trip in the '70. It still saddens me I'll never hear Byrnes raving from that stage again. All i know is that the place was shut by it's owners who preferred not to follow the city's demand that numerous changes be made to the hotel to meet city standards. What a loss to Vancouver that was.
Wow....I didn't know. I need to listen to more Jim Byrne's. Yeah, I know him from "Highlander", but never bothered with his music. Need to make up for lost time!
Fan Freaking tastic!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting! His voice is 'exceptionally' excellent in this performance! The sultry smooooooooothness Jim Byrnes xo
Jimbo - it is a rare thing to witness a song and a singer meet in such a glorious way. I love Doc Watson, but this is now my personal fav. Glen Parker, Avondale, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I just want to bring my broke ass down to Van; pull up an overpass and remain on standby just in case... when i hear this stuff. Thanks for the post; Jim Byrnes rules. =) Check out my uploads 2 =)

Great vocals by Jim and superb guitar work by Steve. Almost as good as the song Walk On.

Lifeguard / Uncle Mike !!!
And he got da Blues - a man of many talents indeed.
