Seriously, if the game ever had a chance to be properly done (it was rushed thanks to bankrupcy), it could end up with better legacy than III.

FINALLY heroes were something more than just a way of providing flat bonus to stats of units and wearing items for more flat bonuses. Hell, items overhaul, to make them more important than just +m to N was great too. I never truly understood why poeple are angry with all those improvements. Sure, there are many issues with vanilla AI and certain things are outright bugged, but come on! As a game created as swan song of a bankrupt company rushing it for sales, this is pure epicness.

(Except it's an own neutral unit) 2. The attackers can't shoot over the walls, but the defenders can. WTF? 3. It's really hard to understand how long the creatures can go. :)
Oh My Freakin God.... :'( I was like 7 when I played this game, all those mystical & magicall surroundings I could live in. It is wonderful how much we can imagine ourselves into another world when we are young. Miss those times!

HOMM series is why I have become a game composer myself. 4 was the best imo, not as a game but the music and the atmosphere was on another level... Wish the AI was a bit better :) This is my childhood here that's still alive hopefully somewhere in my music!

Still, creators of samples and bitmakers made marvelous job as well.

Четверка вообще одна из самых настольных и продуманных по сюжету и сложности геймплея стратежек. Жалко что ЦА нужен графончик и изи то плей- хард то маста. Так как дофига в четверке не очевидных вещей и слишком пожирающая всё РПГ составляющая когда пак героев после раскачки превращался в пак оф дум.

Heroes 2 is my favorite for nostalgia purposes. It's a great game, too. Heroes 3 and 4 are excellent as well. Overall, I would agree that 3 is probably the best.

Well if you dont mind changes in gameplay (BIG CHANGES) you will love this game. For me III=IV>II>I>V>VI. I dont hate VI. It's good game, but done to be easier than older games from series.

This fucking tawny balfour and pete. I hated his campaign. We had 2 shitty pirates at the beginning, 13 points in attack, and we had to take a large map with more than 6 castles.... with level 12 maximum (difficult to become a good heroes). I spent at least 20 hours before winning the first mission

You know, if this music didn't have a nostalgic value and wasn't associated in my mind with a video game that I like. Well if you dont mind changes in gameplay (BIG CHANGES) you will love this game.
For me III=IV>II>I>V>VI. I dont hate VI. It's good game, but done to be easier than older games from series.
I even tried I ... If I had more time ... I would play it for sure ... I love these old games ... :D

I hated his campaign. We had 2 shitty pirates at the beginning, 13 points in attack, and we had to take a large map with more than 6 castles.... with level 12 maximum (difficult to become a good heroes).
I spent at least 20 hours before winning the first mission
My response to HoMM4 was lukewarm at best, but the music, OH GOD, THE MUSIC...
Kazmistrz1993 Play it now, when it's all fan-patched and the dust is long settled down. The campaigns are pure epic. Remember the Shadow of Death campaign from 3rd game? Pretty much entire 4th game got this quality of story. It's the rare case when you are playing strategy game for the story.

Games felt magical back then.
Heroes music made me wonder if I'd listen to it if it weren't associated with the Heroes game. You know, if this music didn't have a nostalgic value and wasn't associated in my mind with a video game that I like. Sure it's awesome, but there are lots of similar type of music out there that may be even better, but is missing out on listeners just because it wasn't included in a video game.
I didn't play HOMM and this is one of my favorite songs from any ost ever.
Painting is incredible, music is absolutely fantastic.
