  • This video was shot using a 2019 Chevy Colorado truck but I have seen this issue and all sorts of Chevy vehicles including Camaros and other cars that have this switch.
    At the end of the video I chose to unplug that switch so it would no longer work and it’s been fine ever since.

    I have a 2016 colorado and this is absolutely the fix . Spent 5 hours jiggling keys, shifting from park to drive, brake on brake off spraying wd40 nothing worked . Watched your video and 10 minutes later I'm back in the house with my keys out of the ignition. I can't thank you enough. That's a like and a subscription. Salute bro. This happened with my truck since I bought it. Dealer was never any help since day one.

    I had this exact problem with my wife's Colorado. I had replaced the solenoid and about a year later it started doing the same thing. I took it apart and replaced the spring with a little stronger one and BAM! It is working awesome now.

    • @al435

      I removed the black plunger piece and replaced the return spring with a slightly stronger one. It will take a bit to determine the strength and length needed.
      I used a spring from a pen!

    My 2016 Canyon was doing the same thing. While looking at the action, I noticed the soft dampening ring was traveling forward and getting wedged to the housing. I was able to pull the soft disk to the side and it tore allowing it to come off the shaft. It now makes a little clicking noise when you release the shifter but I cannot hear it with the covers back on. I have not had a key issue since.

  • @thomasbear1509

    Just had the issue with the stuck key fixed. It took 2 days to duplicate the problem. Even though I had video and the acknowledged there was an issue. They would not initially repair it. The problem is the gear linkage was stretched or cable was stretched. Once replaced no more issue. If you do as you describe and disconnect it 9they can steel your car without a proper key it according to a retired car thief
    buddy of mine but good video

    • @drew61377
      @drew61377  ปีที่แล้ว

      For mine it was the solenoid sticking and for most that is the problem, dealers suck sometimes. Being able to turn the car off while in drive or neutral doesn’t offer and benefit to car thief. They break the column or they have a master key. 🤷‍♂️
      Glad you got yours fixed, mine was the solenoid.

    This is a GREAT video and a great service.
    But for us knuckleheads like me could you do a quick video showing precisely how, step by step, you remove the steering column shroud. I get the lower screw, it’s a 7mm on a 2018 Colorado like mine, but then how do you access the other two screws hidden behind the steering wheel. I see no screws so I imagine the top or bottom part of the shroud must be pried to expose the other 2 screws. Could you please show how it’s done. Thank you.

    • @sidehustlediscovery3226
      @sidehustlediscovery3226 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Besides the screws that's on the bottom there's two other screws directly behind the steering wheel in the front of the shroud.. you can only access by spinning your steering wheel.
      Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right and that will allow you to access the the screw on the right hand side, and then turn wheel to the left to access the other screw.

    Thanks for video, but you can't just unplug. When its working the solenoid is retracting to release, if unplugged won't retract just like when not working, just replace, solenoid is getting weak, only about $40

      Actually yes you can…

  • @kevwills858
    @kevwills858 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you simply unplug the wires the key will stay im the locked position .. it takes electricity to release it .. and a spring to lock it on (ie no power, from the park-switch bridge key remains locked via spring)

    • @drew61377
      @drew61377  ปีที่แล้ว

      No it’s won’t.
      You realize it’s already turned off and the key won’t come out, that’s that whole issue. It’s a known bad solenoid problem with chevys the Camaro does it too.
