When you go to nursing school you are trained for multiple fields, ie. General med-surg, peds, L&D, cardiology, oncology, etc.
For an Associate - ASN (2yr) & Bachelors - BSN (4yr) RN degree you will not specialize in a field. After your BSN you can start a Masters - MSN program to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner - ANP however, it's been my experience w/ the APN programs I searched, you are required to have 5 years of clinical practice. I went to IU for ANP school. There, you can major in different fields of practice. I've been a nurse for over 20 yrs and have worked in numerous specialties w/in the hospital as well as working for insurance companies doing case management and utilization reviews. I've not worked in a surgery center or Dr office but, would love to work w/ a plastic surgeon!

Jacksons Rice that’s so awesome that you know what you want to do at such a young age!! I knew very young as well! I️ loved going to school to become an Esthetician. You go and get to learn about everything girls love to do on a daily. If you feel drawn to it, do it! This could be one stepping stone to what you actually will end up doing in your life... this industry is huge, my advice is always be nice and genuine to people because you never know who you could be talking to😊

I have always been interested in becoming a medical esthetician but never took action. Being 28 years old, I now feel insecure about changing career paths, worrying it's too late. I am so happy I stumbled upon your channel, your videos have inspired me to bite the bullet and check out schools in my area! An institute I am interested in has a partnership with Dermalogica and another Aveda. What are your thoughts on Dermalogica vs. Aveda training?

I️ feel like being 28 is playing in your favor, you are at a perfect age to start, you are a woman and know what you want, you are intentional about being an Esthetician and want to help women feel confident in their skin! Go girl! Dermalogica is a great start for people (it’s what I️ started with) but if you have a choice I️ would def go with aveda. But, I️ would recommend visiting each school and going with the school you are drawn too! Follow your heart. Following my heart is what got me as far as I️ have gotten in this industry, I️ started as a product specialist and ended up running the whole practice to a dermatologist laser medi-spa! Just follow your desire, and keep going!!! Thanks for watching, let’s keep I️n Touch during your journey.

Life with M&A move to Vegas and transfer your license to Nevada. Cosmetologist have more hours.and education than est licensed. You actually know more than they do. Then go to NIMA its laser tech school. You don't need to be a RN to work in Nevada as a laser tech. You just need to be licnwseed climatologist and laser trained and certified. You work under a Dr in Nevada.

In Oregon you have to have your aesthetics license first. Then you have to have an additional 500 to 600 extra hrs working with lasers and chemicals. It's important to go to a school that gives you hands on practice. You can not do botox or anything that requires neeedles. You pass your tests, then you can work with a plastic surgeon or Derm. Some people go out on their own. It's a great career. Know what your state laws are and if you ever move to another state, know what they require before you move. Do your research.

Paige Barnes hey! Stumbled upon your question! I’m 25 and graduated college but felt my career wasn’t fulfilling. My fiancé’s father is a dermatologist and that’s what lead me into admiring the field. So I decided to take the jump an enroll in clinical (medical) esthetician. To be completely honest you necessarily don’t need to graduate college but they do require a highschool/GED diploma. It’s your choice to complete college especially if you want a back up plan but..instead of the basic 300 hours if I were you I would do the 720 hours which is more advance which they call clinical (medical) esthetician. I completed the course less than 9 months and love what I do! Especially because school was also less than 12k. I received a 6k scholarship and only less than 6k in financial aid which was way cheaper than a 4 year bachelors degree. Every state is different but I live in Florida so that was my tuition quote which was part time. I attended school Monday-Friday 9am to 1pm and after went straight to work to help out at the office. I honestly think if you want to do it, do it!!!! You won’t be disappointed, I promise!!!! Xoxo

I love your videos! Your knowledge is great and you seem very client based I love that! I'm currently a Massage Therapist and I'm going to school to add an esthetician license under my belt starting November 2018. I love massage therapy work and helping people achieve goals, and find self-care. It's just so strenuous on my body I know I can't do it for very long. The medical esthetician is very appealing to me, and I wonder if you know how well those two licenses would work together in the medical Esthetics world, besides having a very relaxing facial due to my massage background.

So recently I dropped hair and now am going to start esthetics and skincare, plus nails. I definitely want to conti ue my education after cosmetology school and go into an estethician school. I live in Oregon and was hoping someone might know of a good school to go to to get i to this ?

Claudia Viscuso yay!! Do it if your inspired to, it’s the best industry! Being a medical Esthetician means you work with a doctor, so under the doctors license/Guidance/insurance you are able to preform more result oriented treatments and offer products that are only sold through a M.D. license such as prescriptions and high concentrated products that produce RESULTS. You learn about the skin, post procedures skin care, science and much much more... please let me know if you have more questions. Thanks for watching!!!!!😘😘😘😘🙏🙏🙏

Flo hello love! Thank you for the nice words🤗😘 there is no program to become a medical Esthetician, so you have to find a job under a doctor (dermatologist or plastic surgeon) and under their insurance and guidance with time working for them you are able to do more/stronger/more effective procedures and provide stronger products such as RX products to your clients. I highly recommend this for a few years because you will learn SO much and eventually you can go on your own if you choose that route. Thanks for commenting, so you follow me on Instagram?! And than add the product: Pore Therapy , from the medical line obagi! You can get that product from online @thedermstore dermstore.com you will have glowing clear skin in no time!!😘😘😘

What is the difference between a medical esthetician and just a regular esthetician? Is the pay different? What are all the things you can do for the client being on the medical side/ not on the medical side ? Are you limited to certain things if you’re only a esthetician not in the medical field?

    • @triciaoverstreet3873
      @triciaoverstreet3873 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Medical esthetician is a made up title. People who call themselves medical estheticians are regulated by their esthetic license scope of practice. So it's not something extra you have to pay for to achieve. When you get your license pursue a position with a medical provider at an office or med spa. Good luck!

I just got my master’s in Communication and media but I’ve had a passion for skin care since I broke out in cystic acne while I was in high school. I hardly have any breakouts now that I’m 26 but I have scars and some days my scars are all I can see. I have done sooo much research and tried everything but nothing seems to be working. I love studying products and their ingredients and how they work with different skin types and so now I’m thinking I want to take charge and go back to school to become a medical esthetician. I’ve been researching schools in California because I just moved to Oceanside but am pretty overwhelmed. Are there schools that you recommend?

I'm in new Jersey and here estheticians can work on patients/clients with not so abrasive products such as facials, microdermabrasion, certain chemical peels, wax, makeup tattoo,... but an aesthetician is more medical they work with actually more stronger products of chemical peels, lasers removals for hair, scars, and tattoos, they work with injectables such as fillers botox ect. They need more hours and $$ for that career it's more medical based

Mariah Driggers it depends, you have to follow your heart. I worked the front desk, and It made me a better esthetician. I learned how to run a successful practice. When your at the front desk you are essentially running the business. When you learn the front of the house it can only make you better when you get into the back. You could go back and tell them you would love the position but you would like to be the first considered for an Esthetician position when it opens up. Congratulations on getting the job! Once your in, your in. But please listen to your intuition, trust yourself and follow how you feel. When you go with your passion the money will follow.

At the interview I’ll ask for more but she made it seem like it’s non negotiable over email. I am very interested in pursuing an education in esthetics, and hope to eventually (sooner, than later) become a medical esthetician. I have only used over the counter skincare products, and am curious about how to "up" my game, since I am turning fifty in a few months, even though I don't look it. I would love to receive some skincare advice from you. I have very sensitive skin, and have avoided using products that can be too harsh. What would you advise?

Hey girl! I think you would be very happy pursuing a career as a Esthetician and eventually a medical Esthetician, I think you should go for it! The best products to start with is an antioxidant (obagi vitamin c 10%) and a retinol that is very gentle, the best for your skin type is from Avene, retinol .05% (retinol is the number one anti-aging product)and obviously an spf! These products are recommended by a board certified dermatologist and amazing results with minimal irritation. Thank you so much for the question!! Keep going you will LOVE being an Esthetician😘😘😘
