      When you go to nursing school you are trained for multiple fields, ie. General med-surg, peds, L&D, cardiology, oncology, etc.
      For an Associate - ASN (2yr) & Bachelors - BSN (4yr) RN degree you will not specialize in a field. After your BSN you can start a Masters - MSN program to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner - ANP however, it's been my experience w/ the APN programs I searched, you are required to have 5 years of clinical practice. I went to IU for ANP school. There, you can major in different fields of practice. I've been a nurse for over 20 yrs and have worked in numerous specialties w/in the hospital as well as working for insurance companies doing case management and utilization reviews. I've not worked in a surgery center or Dr office but, would love to work w/ a plastic surgeon!

    I have always been interested in becoming a medical esthetician but never took action. Being 28 years old, I now feel insecure about changing career paths, worrying it's too late. I am so happy I stumbled upon your channel, your videos have inspired me to bite the bullet and check out schools in my area! An institute I am interested in has a partnership with Dermalogica and another Aveda. What are your thoughts on Dermalogica vs. Aveda training?

    • @TheModernEsthetician

      KATE DNLYCT you are so inspiring! I️ feel like being 28 is playing in your favor, you are at a perfect age to start, you are a woman and know what you want, you are intentional about being an Esthetician and want to help women feel confident in their skin! Go girl! Dermalogica is a great start for people (it’s what I️ started with) but if you have a choice I️ would def go with aveda. But, I️ would recommend visiting each school and going with the school you are drawn too! Follow your heart. Following my heart is what got me as far as I️ have gotten in this industry, I️ started as a product specialist and ended up running the whole practice to a dermatologist laser medi-spa! Just follow your desire, and keep going!!! Thanks for watching, let’s keep I️n Touch during your journey.

    I’m currently in my 10th week of Esthetician school. I’m conflicted right now because I love helping people see results and see them evolve with confidence, but I want to work in a dermatologist office. I’m in Texas, so we can do microderms, and chem peels as a licensed Esthetician here. I want to be able to administer Botox and have thought about going to laser school but not sure if that’s the route I should go to be more qualified to be in a derm office. I’ve heard you need to be a RN to be able to do this.. not sure what to do.

    • @TheModernEsthetician
      @TheModernEsthetician  7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Emily Summerlin that’s so awesome your I. School to be an Esthetician! You really can see a huge difference in people skin as an Esthetician when you work for a Doctor because you can use much high concentrated products. I’m not sure of the laws in Texas but in California you def have to be a nurse to do botox and juvederm. Those procedures don’t interest me but if you were a Esthetician and an R.N. You would be highly employable at a medica/laser spa I’m a manager and if you were both a nurse and Esthetician I would hire you in a heart beat! You have so much time to figure it all out. Let me know if you have more questions!

    • @extraordinellie6569
      @extraordinellie6569 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You need to be a medical professional in order to administer botox. Nursing school is rough though :S
      Plus, you'd have to do a separate licensing to inject botox and fillers.

    • @prettylikeplastic8429
      @prettylikeplastic8429 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the state of Texas, as long as you are working in a facility that has a NP or Dr. As the Director, then you can do the injections. You have to be trained though, which is very thorough and in depth.

      Life with M&A move to Vegas and transfer your license to Nevada. Cosmetologist have more hours.and education than est licensed. You actually know more than they do. Then go to NIMA its laser tech school. You don't need to be a RN to work in Nevada as a laser tech. You just need to be licnwseed climatologist and laser trained and certified. You work under a Dr in Nevada.

    hi i jut graduated from highschool and i took a few months off to step back and rlly look at my options into what career i wna build and what school to attend bc after highschool, education becomes very expensiveee unfortunately... Medical esthetician seems like an intriguing career for me to enter however I'm a little confused which first step to take. I live in Canada and I know some beauty schools around my city (my parents dont rlly want me to step out of the province, or the country omg) but it's to be just a regular spa type esthetician, not sure if it'll get me to THE medical esthetician level.. There's also universities and colleges.. just confused right now, hope I can receive some feedback! :)

      You have to start out getting the basic level of esthiology being spa level esthetics and after that you can find a job working as a medical esthetician.In Texas you can get licensed and certified to do things like laser and botox only AFTER you are a licensed esthetician.

      Kathryn Elisabeth omg it’s been years omg wow. Well before the quarantine, I was in a little shop performing facials! (: a lady who does eyebrow threading, she has her little shop just her. I got my eyebrows done one day, and at the tome I was freelancing. Going to others homes. I loved it a lot. And I let her know about and if she ever wanted one to let me know. A day later my pastor asked me what I was wanting to do in life or needing, and I let him know, he replied with, so a building to perform the facials ? And I was yes ! And not even two days later my eyebrow lady asked me if I wanted to use her open room for eyebrows! Glory to God, what a miracle like wow. So I began doing them there, and I got to bring in to the practice my type of flow, my style, it was so angelic and beautiful! I looooved doing the massaging.
      Thank you guys for wondering, means a lot 🥰🥰🥰🥰

    At this point of my life I have two careers in mind that I wanna pursue. Massage therapy or esthetician. I am obsessed with helping people feel and look good/relaxed. Nothing brings me more joy than helping someone feel fulfilled.
    My breakouts were insane as a teen so I have a little bit of scaring and pigmentation from that as well as an adult. There is a couple of things I use for my skin.
    1)Pore strips
    2)lansinoh nipple cream
    3) Night cream concha nácar perlop
    4) St. Scrub and spf 3 in 1 cream moisturizer
    5) Honest face cream
    This is what’s helped my mild case of pigmentation and scaring.
    I am excited to learn more about skin and relaxation as a career and self use (:

    I have recently discovered my passion for skin care and am fascinated with dermatology. I've spent a lot of time in my 20s trying to figure out my career path and nothing felt quite right. My next move is officially becoming an esthetician and working towards landing a career in a medical setting. Your video was very informative and made me even more excited to pursue this career. Hey girl! Soooo I’m currently in Cosmetology school and I love it. I’ve found, though, that I’m so much more intrigued by skin than I am by hair (even though I do love doing hair). I’m just not sure if my cosmo license is enough to get into the skincare field.. I’m sure I’d get a chance to work in a day spa, but that’s not enough for me. I’m more intrigued by the medical side of things that produce real results. I’d just hate to spend another $20k on another school for a license that is so similar..

    I find your videos so informative and helpful. I'm in the process of getting into a very selective esthetics program (only 10 spots available and high high demand) so fingers truly crossed i can get in. Skin has been my passion for since i can remember and i am truly in it for the medical aspects not the makeup-art. I really hope i can get into this program because i have been in retail for over 13 years and i just need to make this change. I want to be passionate about my job. God i hope i get in. I just want to show them i am a good fit and have done my homework basically all my life. Aaaaagh. I am so nervous. This will be a life changer (a much needed one!)

      Paige Barnes hey! Stumbled upon your question! I’m 25 and graduated college but felt my career wasn’t fulfilling. My fiancé’s father is a dermatologist and that’s what lead me into admiring the field. So I decided to take the jump an enroll in clinical (medical) esthetician. To be completely honest you necessarily don’t need to graduate college but they do require a highschool/GED diploma. It’s your choice to complete college especially if you want a back up plan but..instead of the basic 300 hours if I were you I would do the 720 hours which is more advance which they call clinical (medical) esthetician. I completed the course less than 9 months and love what I do! Especially because school was also less than 12k. I received a 6k scholarship and only less than 6k in financial aid which was way cheaper than a 4 year bachelors degree. Every state is different but I live in Florida so that was my tuition quote which was part time. I attended school Monday-Friday 9am to 1pm and after went straight to work to help out at the office. I honestly think if you want to do it, do it!!!! You won’t be disappointed, I promise!!!! Xoxo

    What would be the major difference between being an esthetician and being an aesthetics nurse? Besides the schooling of course lol! Would you say they take up the same duties? I know estheticians can get certified to do various procedures, so eventually they are able to do what Aesthetics nurses do right? I am doing my Esthetician license program, but I want to work at a medical setting, like with a dermatologist or laser/skin centers and such. Would you say going into nursing is the way to go, or should I just get my esthetician license and obtain other certifications to perform variety of procedures?

    In Oregon you have to have your aesthetics license first. Then you have to have an additional 500 to 600 extra hrs working with lasers and chemicals. It's important to go to a school that gives you hands on practice. You can not do botox or anything that requires neeedles. You pass your tests, then you can work with a plastic surgeon or Derm. Some people go out on their own. It's a great career. Know what your state laws are and if you ever move to another state, know what they require before you move. Do your research.

Thank you for the nice words🤗😘 there is no program to become a medical Esthetician, so you have to find a job under a doctor (dermatologist or plastic surgeon) and under their insurance and guidance with time working for them you are able to do more/stronger/more effective procedures and provide stronger products such as RX products to your clients. Your skin looks so beautiful my daughter is starting esthetician school soon and were both so excited. I am in my late 50s and what would products/services would you recommend so that I can have a youthful appearance and confidence?

      holy wallace thank you!!!!😘😘😘😘😘😘 I would recommend you getting on a retinol and antioxidant as soon as possible preferably from a medical spa so you are getting a high dose of active ingredients. The Services I would recommend to start would be a Clear + Brilliant laser you would need three to six treatments to see a big difference or one restore laser(my favorite for big results) research these two lasers and google who does them in your town!!! Congratulations to you and your daughter being an Esthetician is a magical journey!!! .

    Absolutely Loving your videos! I am one final practical exam away from being a licensed Aesthetician and these videos are giving me the motivation I need to keep going to do what I know I’ll love! I am wondering if you have any other social media you are actively posting on that we could follow to see more of the field? Instagram, or Facebook? Thank you!

    I start school for esthetics next month and my main goal is to become a medical esthetician. Do you think it’s a good idea to start out in a spa/salon first before looking for doctor offices? Your video was extremely helpful. Thank you so much

    Hi Kelsey! First just wanted to say your so gorgeous and your skin looks amazing! So I've been looking into becoming a medical esthetician; I'm a makeup artist and have worked with Mac and bare minerals amongst other brands, and I stepped away from it 10 months ago, just because Im starting to get into more clean beauty, skincare, etc; And also, Im finishing up studying for my Vet Tech license. I love skincare/beauty and I also love working with animals in clinic and I was thinking about doing both? maybe part-time until I feel like sticking to either career. Even though I stepped away from the industry, I did love it, and I think I want to get back into it, and I figure what better way then to become an esthetician? Basically I wanted your advice, do you think I should go down the esthetician road and incorporating it into my future vet career? Or should I just stick to the animal field and abandon beauty all together?

    How would you recommend that I fix my resume to aim towards dermatology offices? I have been at a day spa for about a year and I would really like to interview with an medical spa or dermatology office. Should I call after applying? Should I send my resume even if they aren’t hiring? Would you recommend sending a cover letter? I am scared about them not taking me serious since I am so new in this field. Thank you for any more advice you can give me.

    Thank you for your wonderful video! Did I see you January 26 at the State Board in Glendale? I was there to be licensed in California. I was trained as a medical aesthetician in Canada. I have a huge passion, like you, for skin care and helping women feel great about themselves. However, 21 years as a stay at home mom, divorced abruptly.....sad story....Back on my feet at 51? Is it too late? You had to fight so hard to get your foot in the door, and you are YOUNG AND GORGEOUS... I’m considering nursing degree?? Not my passion but it’s stability and income. I will keep watching your videos! Best wishes!

    I just finished school and I’m having a hard time finding a job without experience. A medispa contacted me to be a front desk esthetician but the pay is only $10/hr with some add on service commission. I will learn so much there but I thought the pay would be more so I’m not sure if I should take it

      Mariah Driggers it depends, you have to follow your heart. I worked the front desk, and It made me a better esthetician. I learned how to run a successful practice. When your at the front desk you are essentially running the business. When you learn the front of the house it can only make you better when you get into the back. You could go back and tell them you would love the position but you would like to be the first considered for an Esthetician position when it opens up. Congratulations on getting the job! Once your in, your in. But please listen to your intuition, trust yourself and follow how you feel. When you go with your passion the money will follow.

      Modern Esthetician that is very true. My intuition thinks it’s a good place to start, I entered this field so I could work with a doctor so any step in that direction is progress. I’m just worried about being stuck in the same position with low pay, I’m making more money where I work now but not growing as an esthetician. Thanks so much for your response and advice :) please continue making videos, you help us future estheticians SO much! 😊

      Mariah Driggers have you asked them to match what your making currently? It can’t hurt to ask and know your worth. And thank you for the support and follow😘😘

      Modern Esthetician not yet, I initially applied for an esthetician position and listed my prior salaries but since I had no experience she brought up being a front desk esthetician and said that it won’t pay more than $10/hr but I’ll have commission opportunities with services but it’s mainly front desk. At the interview I’ll ask for more but she made it seem like it’s non negotiable over email. I want to be set in stone that I need more but worried I’ll be missing out on experience if I deny the offer:(

    Just stumbled upon this video and I am a licensed cosmetologist with training in esthetics. I currently work at a day spa and have been for 5 years, I’m curious to know if I also need to go to school for medical aesthetics as well? Since I am already cosmetology licensed? I have been interested in going into the medical side of esthetics! I hope you answer, but I love your videos! Thanks for inspiring me! ☺️
