Wow. i have never seen a more realistic animation of the Lusitania'a tragic sinking, and as a Lusitania enthusiast, I give this a 10/10. Great work jack!
I believe in the "Lusitania: Terror at Sea" movie that Captain Schweiger mentions that he only aims to fire one torpedo and give _Lusitania_ "a bloody nose" as it were. So when he sees how the ship is foundering, he is in total shock. They also said that _Lusitania_ could be outfitted to be an auxiliary cruiser or troop transport as with other Cunard ships.
Jack this may be your best animation yet. in addition to best animation, you absolutely GRILLED AND BARBEQUED with the sound design! I found myself genuinely so disturbed hearing those screams in the Lusitania interior shots. I also love those shots in the final plunge that put you seemingly in the perspective of a bird flying over Lusitania. So many moments caught me off-guard, like the second explosion, the graphics of the smoke, and the inclusion of the elevators stopping. I would say fantastic work but this is work indescribable with the English vocabulary. Keep this up, Mr. Gibson!🎀💝💝
Jack, this is easily your best work yet! The smoke and water effects look incredible. I also like that you added a slight film grain. It makes it feel as though it were filmed in real life with a real camera. I also love the aerial shots, especially during the final plunge, they almost feel like they’re being filmed from a helicopter. It reminds me of the footage of Oceanos sinking. And you absolutely ate with the sound design!!!! I was so surprised when this premiered lol I was not expecting a whole new real time animation, considering your last one was only earlier this year with Mike’s documentary, but it was a very pleasant surprise! Keep up the good work! Cheers! 💕💕
Lusitania may not be the ship I am mostly focused on(That honor belongs to Titanic) but man is this animation good! The details, dedication, graphics, and sounds...it honestly feels as if I'm watching an actual animation from a high quality documentary!
The fact all of this chaos and carnage happened in only just 18 minutes, is still terrifying to me. This might be one of the most beautiful animations yet, Jack, I'm loving the improvement
It wasn’t exactly sailor, ignorance, the ship in a mere matter of minutes. Read “Dead Wake: the last crossing of the Lusitania- Erik Larson. It’s one of my favorites and goes into a lot of detail.
You try to coordinate an evacuation of a passenger liner that has just been illegally attacked by surprise. “Sailor ignorance” - what an insult to seamen of all times.
The level of dedication, in bringing the beautiful Lusitania back to life is truly Inspiring . Love your work Jack and the rest of the dream team . This whole vid was absolutely awesome and so professional . Very well done 👏
Absolutely outstanding work jack I don’t know how you make the animation better every time. Keep up the good work people like you keep these ships alive ❤
aww man this model and just readjust the lighting so its dark and make it so it sinks like it did in project britannica. LOVE THE WORK. PLS MAYBE A REAL TIME SINKING OF HER IN PROJECT BRITANNICA
As soon as the debris started raining down, I could only stare with my mouth agape. Absolutely stunning animation. Terrifying masterpiece of animation.
I like that you used a WWI submarine; way too many Lusitania animation creators use WWII Type VII submarines to represent U-20. Even though the Type VII does not resemble the old-fashioned U-Boats. The particle effects are also beautiful.
What makes the RMS Lusitania a tragic tale isn't necessarily the loss of life of innocent civilians. It's not because it was a war crime (at least today it would be). It's because in -- the end -- it all really came down to very bad luck. The ship just so happened to travel right into Schwieger's line of sight just perfectly, and he admitted had Turner not not turned towards the sea from the coast, he probably would have not been able to make the shot. In any other type of encounter, the Lusitania would probably have been able to evade any torpedo run.
jack, you glorious man, you’ve done it again. this is by far and away the best animation i have ever had the pleasure of watching. this is something to be extremely proud of. ABSOLUTE PEAK
First of all congratulations to 10k subscribers and second this was a amazing real time video and I even learned something new despite me having loved to learn about ships ever since I was around 5 years old since I learned now which was the first rescue ship to arrive 💜
Man imagine being trapper in one of those rooms and you cant open the door due to a flooded corridor. The water just slowly fills your quarters and you die a horrible death.
The Cunard Line ocean liner RMS Lusitania was torpedoed by the German Submarine U-20 in the Irish Sea on May 7th, 1915. The passengers and children and crewmembers have perished.

imagine you were stuck on a lower deck when the panic begun. as you try to make your way up the stairs, you find yourself smothered by the herd of people shoving and climbing up towards the deck. as the list grows more and more severe, you graps for the rails, if you can reach them that is. after what feels like hours, and a terrifying darkness spell, you finally find yourself just a flight away from a-deck, yet still rows away from the front, when you notice your shoes are wet. you look down, and to your horror, it is not the water from below which has reached you, but a steady stream, washing down the stairs and between the tangle of legs before you...
Jack, I see what you mean about the third funnel follow. How could I have missed that detail from your previous video? Especially when it was right there?
Personally I think the reason the Titanic is so much more talked about and depicted is because of the unknown factor it had for so long. While there's still a ton of questions about Titanic's sister ships like the Lusitania and Britannic, the Titanic just had so many questions for so much longer. How it sank, where it sank, if it broke in half, if it was an accident, etc, for over 70 years we just had no idea what happened aside from the SOS'. While the rest of the ship's losses are horrific as well, the Titanic is just darker, and once we did find it, it was so dark, decrepit, and cold, that it's wreck site just felt otherworldly. All these things is why I think more people were interested in it's story, and movies, than the others.
Hello Jack! As always, wonderful work. It just keeps getting better and better. I've asked this question several times, unfortunately I haven't got a response yet :( I'm also a 3D artist and have built and animated ocean liners. I find the rendering of the ship's wake and foam so impressive. I have not yet been able to achieve such satisfactory results myself. Do you have any tips or tutorials on how I can achieve it? I would be very grateful! Best regards
holy crap the detailed is a big step up. i ahve no idea how animations work but do u kneed to be good and math and know coding etc to do this kind of stuff?
Well apparently the U-20’s Captain didn’t thought one torpedo would sink her, he just wanted to give her a ‘bloody nose’ - even its torpedo officer said that the explosion was unusually devastating Captain Schwieger also said that he couldn’t have fired a second torpedo into this mess of people trying to save their souls It doesn’t remove the fact that this was a horrible war crime though
I think what angers me the most about this event, is the U-20's Commander basically went "Oh look, a passenger ship, fire a torpedo!" then suddenly grew some kind of conscience and refused to fire a second torpedo at the innocent people trying to save themselves.
Well he spotted Lusitania almost an hour before firing the torpedo, but since she was ahead of schedules to Southampton - she changed course to go back in the Atlantic which made her get in a perfect sight for U-20 I think he was expecting Lusitania to hold on better to a single torpedo blow and to not sink that quickly, or to have at least an escort to pick up the survivors shortly after - it’s still understandable from him to not want to fire a second torpedo into this mess of people trying to save themselves
You forgot that one of the lifeboats had successfully lowered, but then lost control and couldn’t really steer and got caught in the prop and just torn apart
She did, she could withstand 2 compartments flooded : but the torpedo impact and the boilers explosion that followed might have just obliterated those watertight bulkheads
Curious. But in future renditions. If there a chance if showing the large open spaces as they succumbed to the flooding. Would they just gradually flood or kinda implode or collapse ? I’m guessing they’d be dark scenes considering no power
Like almost every ship they would slowly flood, all rooms are connected to vents, etc… and the doors themselves aren’t usually watertight too (because they would be too heavy)
