im an architect based in durban. I fell in love with Dar' es Salam when I went there 5 years ago. the thing which struck me the most, was the freedom of trade and ingenuity, the sense of freedom to build yourself and stand on your own two feet, was much easier than in South Africa which is riddled with over regulation... You are in the right place, and thank you for a sincere and straight honest review. crime is everywhere, even in London, its how you live to tell the tale that counts... and im glad you could laugh about some of your experiences. you have a good heart, and welcome to Africa mzungu brother.

Sometimes it's pretty nice to hear about the good life experiences of expatriates to Tanzania though it is a total nightmare for Local Engineers, Architectures and a lot of employees in the Construction industry here in Tanzania,
I love my country a lot and I believe this kind of difference between Expatriates and Locals should be mitigated, A lot of experienced workers hope to work abroad to at least be treated with respect and dignity. But the most amazing about this video is a completely informative and the whole picture of an architect's life in Tanzania.

Ndugu, ofcourse an expat in any other country especially the 'caucasian' expats will at most earn an upper hand when it comes to work experience. The racial, diasporical discrimination will live on if Locals do not have a change of mind. There is a need of renewal in mind from both local employers and employees. Tunachukuliana poa sana. Maboss wanajikuta wanajua, na wafanyakazi... play the same game.

Nimekaa Marekani and I can unequivocally say sisi tuna all the recipes kuwa a "first world" country. Smart people...check. Peaceful...check. Ni sisi hatujiamini. All I can say to you sir is that you are at the right spot. Tanzania is developing fast and you will have more opportunities there. My advice to you is that understand Africa is rough so you only need to adjust to it. You will notice that there is more freedom there compared to Western systems. Most expats when they get to that land, they retire there.

I can tell you that the traffic police are/were notorious for nitpicking. They will always find a reason to fine you. When driving, always be wary of intersections and follow all traffic regulations. That's where they hang out!
    28:45
Having said the above, i wanna emphasize this. You always STOP when instructed to do so. Honestly, sometimes they just want to check the validity of your driving license or more seriously but rare, they want to check for contraband. In the latter case, it will save you a lot of trouble including a very unnecessary and unwanted trip to the local precinct.
It is more seriously dangerous when you don't stop and there happens to be a motorcade coming your way.

Interesting choice of wording for a shirt, consideringwhere you are: Everyone could see that but, somehow in your mind you must have chuckled to yourself by the thought you could subtly exhibit this but, it wasn't subtle. I have no doubt you know what you're doing and the messages you want to send but, don't be shy, come out and say it and maybe you'll run into a group of smart Tanzanian one day.
