I feel like their is one quote that really sums up Envy's character, one that I am sure many know by now: "Do not pity the dead, pity the living, and above all: those who live without love." Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is (imo at least) a prime example to add even more meaning to that already super meaningful quote. But that's just me. :)
Envy is one of my favorite villains of fmab and how he portrayed the sun envy was phenomenal. He hated humans more then any of the humanculi combined. The others just saw them as lesser beings but he loathed then cause he was jealous and that jealousy led to his cruelty towards them. It was just amazing in my opinion and it’s the reason why he’s 2nd favorite villain in fmab just a little behind King Bradley.
Not gonna lie but when I saw Envy crying, I was about to- okay I actually cried. Idk why but I feel like I understood his view. How weak and pathetic it must have felt when he was on the ground and ppl looking down on him. I felt that pain because I also feel or have felt that pain and embarrassment. And also hearing his voice made it even so unbearable of how small he felt at that moment. So yeah FMA hit me right in the feels so many times.

Envy in himself is interesting and could have gone in two routes with himself. He obviously felt insecure and empty, and lack the things that humans have which grew into resentment and hate. He’s psychologically the embodiment of malicious envy. It would have been interesting if he had turn into benign envy: aspiration and found the love that he was looking for.
Minor correction, not even the Philosopher's Stones bypass the law of equivalent exchange, they just hold so much alchemical value that it seems that way, evident by the fact that they do get used up, and there is no stone shown that last forever.
Envy is probably my favorite fictional character of all time so this video (which was very good tbh), almost made me cry. It angers me how people only see his actions, not his motivations caused by emotional pain he constantly felt. What makes it even more sad, is the fact that everything what he did, could be easily prevented. If he could experience friendship and love, who knows if he’d stayed by fathers side. Maybe, he would turn to humanity and the Ishval incident would never happen? Truly a tragic character.
Envy killed Hughes. Yet we cannot forget Hughes is not an innocent. He took place in a genocide. Envy killed a child. This is no more then Mustang did or many other states alchemists did. Envy acknowledged not only his actions but their repercussions. Mustang, in contrast, offered rationalization and excuses. And never truly owned up or faced consequences. The only other one who actually ownes up is Scar. In this way, Envy is more worthy of redemption then someone like Mustang or Hawkeye.
I wouldn't say Envy is always looking for a fight. Whenever he gets into a real fight, he runs like hell, because he quickly finds himself outclassed. What Envy is, is an instigator, a sh*t stirrer and a sh*t talker, he loves to get people riled up so they will either play into his hands or get so angry they don't think straight.
Yes! Exactly! Thank you! If anything, he prefers to put up the least amount of physical effort, hence his extra focus on talking. Envy is not about taking action, but about twisting emotions.
Seems like Envy had a not so envious life. I feel that he was the one I always did feel the most simpathy towards, maybe gluttony because he didn't really seem to understand right and wrong well. However, Envy had such a tragic life.
I love this channel, seriously you surprise me in the best way possible every time. Envy I found to be one of the most believable villains in anime. In fact each of the seven deadly sins sprouts from certain negative human emotions. Envy-from feelings of discontent and inadequacy Lust- loneliness and mentality that you are not worthy of attention/affection/love Gluttony-having an emotional void in your heart, a lacking of positive emotional nourishment the root of your constant need to physically feed yourself Sloth- thinking a task is to hard for you to succeed, and that you'll suffer disappointment and humiliation just for trying. Pride-the question of your existence and your convinced that everyone and even you yourself looks down on you Wrath-emotions of fear, your terrified and feel like your fighting for your life thus you lash out even if irrationally Greed- believing that possessions are a crippling need so you push all you can to yourself believing there's nothing of value on the inside of your being.
Human sins are in and of themselves not so much sins as they are hurts. Hurt people hurt people. Maybe through love and forgiveness of everyone's shortcomings we can heal these "sins".
I wouldn’t say Envy couldn’t feel love or emotions, I think it’s more that he was never given the chance to. The dynamic of Father’s “family” was clearly not a healthy one, and we can pretty easily reason that Father did not raise his children with love. He did, however, pass onto them his view of humans, that they are weak and below Homunculi. The majority of the Homunculi adopted their father’s opinions on humans, much like a child looking to their parent to learn about the world. The one thing Envy really wanted was love. He grew up watching the loving relationships that humans formed with one another and deeply coveted them. He never received love from his father, and because of the beliefs he’d adopted from Father, he would never seek any kind of relationship with a human. He considered them far too below him for that. This leaves his siblings, the other Homunculi, as the only people from whom Envy could have received any love or affection - but, it doesn’t look like that ever happened either. We know the Homunculi are capable of caring about others: Gluttony was close to Lust and mourned her loss, Wrath chose and (probably) cared for his wife, Greed was able to befriend others, etc. But it doesn’t seem like Envy was especially close to any of his siblings. He looks like he might’ve gotten along with Lust, but even then, we don’t know if their relationship was ever very intimate. With no one who loved him, not even his “family”, Envy was unable to get the one thing he truly wanted. This, in combination with his already low opinion of humans, drove him to hate them more than any of the other Homunculi. He took delight in harming and killing them, hoping he could fill the emptiness he felt with his sadism, and put up an egotistical front to hide his compounding insecurities.
It’s funny because I honestly love both Envys, even though people don’t really talk about the 2003 adaption of the character. While Brotherhood Envy isn’t just jealous of Elric brothers but of all humans in general, the FMA 2003 is special to me because it gives Envy an anchor to the main characters and the hatred he feels for Hohenheim is only a shade darker than Ed’s own resentment for the man. Dante gets all the attention for having the sins of her seven homunculi, but I believe it’s Envy who shows most those sins the best because the source of his negativity is more easily attainable. Brotherhood Envy kills themself because someone understood them; 2003 Envy kills himself because even though he would die too, fulfilling his desire to kill his father was the only way to release himself of his only wish. While that might seem a bit one-dimensional, I enjoy it.
cLoud unDerWeather ...It’s debatable. Greed is a big presence for a while, but kind of fucks off for most of the end of the middle of the series till he and Ling finally get along to some degree after Greed breaks down. Envy is the one we see in action the most, then Greed, Pride, and Wrath

You know, now that I know that Envy's human form is genderless, it actually makes sense. Maybe Envy takes a genderless form because it even further separates them from the humans whom they claim to despise. In one of the episode, there's a flashback where Ed and Al are discussing the "^perfect being" as being genderless. This might suit Envy's taste, because they consider themselves to be so far above the "inferior" humans. It also stands to reason that Envy's massive bestial form is their way of widening the divide between themselves and humanity even more. I think their jealousy stems in part from the fact that he can take on the physical appearance of any other living creature, but can never really belong anywhere; even among their Homunculus counterparts, Envy and Pride are the only ones whose true forms aren't human or humanoid. In a way, they're kind of tragic. they've watched, possibly for centuries, as humans have fought wars, lied, cheated and stolen; and they've been ready, willing and able to escalate the strife...but they've also seen selflessness, devotion, courage and love; and Envy could never be a part of those things, really. And it didn't help that Father didn't really seem to care about his "children"; other than how they could be useful in furthering his own goals. Envy is definitely my favorite villain and I liked him even before his death too. I think their death actually hit me harder than Hughes... I love Hughes too and I hate that Envy killed him but I could never hate Envy.
I consider Envy a better antagonist and character than Wrath, because Wrath’s fury just seemed so aimless. His ruthlessness was understandable, but his contempt and hatred wasn’t really motivated by much at all. Envy, however, had such a compelling and understandable insecurity at the core, making them a truly tragic and compelling villain.
Please do an episode on Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood's Father/ Dwarf in the flask, or Hohenheim of Light. Two of the most interesting characters in anime! The Dwarf in the Flask episode... with the music... Perfection. You're awesome man. Thanks.
I'd say that the philsopher's stone does not bypass the law of equivilant exchange but acts more like a battery. During it's creation a horrific price was paid and all the people using it are simply collecting the debt. Philospher's stones stop working if they are used constantly. That is when the debt is paid.
Philosopher stones do not bypass equivalent exchange, they use the human souls inside as fuel, thats why they do eventually shatter, though it takes a long time to break them down, just as human alchemy is more than possible, bypassing equivalent exchange was just a simpler explanation offered early and then it was shown that it was there to hide the truth of philosophers stones
Contrary to popular belief the philosopher stone doesn't actually bypass "equivalent exchange", it still obey this law. Equivalent exchange states that to be able to obtain something, something of equal value must be lost or sacrificed. Think of this as a simple business transaction, you pay $ 3.00 for a piece candy of the same price. What the stone does is pay the price without you paying by asking someone else to buy it for you. The souls within the stone is sacrifice for the exchange to happened.

Envy is amazing and I hope they atleast appreciated a small bit that they had the coolest power of all the homunculus: shapeshifting. They did so much w it already but the applications of it are just amazing.
Envy’s death made me wanna laugh but cry at the same time
Omg daddy plz talk about the other homuculi and characters from fmab pretty plz finally someone who talks about this yesss
I could feel my heart slowly breaking into pieces while watching the video T.T
Oh boy I can't wait to hear about the other homunculus or better yet father!
Continue with the other sins please! I love your creations!
You should do all Alchemy since tell their part of their story makes him more interesting and more human about what each one dying
Loved it !
Envy for me is like the opposite of greed
Litterally love your voice and your videos! Keep doing it man
Envy was so relatable in his last moments
Honestly Everyone is gonna hate me for this but Envy was my favourite character at the very beginning in broth Fullmetal alchemists and before people say that They (Im using they pronouns caouse I want to) I know They killed hughes and idk why but I absoulutly loved them BUT DONT GET MAD AT ME I CRIED WHEN HUGHES DIED I JUST FREAKIN LOVE ENVY
Envy is definitely my favorite villain and I liked him even before his death too. I think their death actually hit me harder than Hughes... I love Hughes too and I hate that Envy killed him but I could never hate Envy.
Who else loves envy and deeply empathizes with him as a character
oohhh my god i forgot just how good the FMA soundtrack is jesus
Yay awesome vid sage.
Envy was such a pitiful character.
I love your videos
3:44 Very nice, you totally left out Lust.
When I saw this true, green form, I kinda understood his envy...
Please do an episode on Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood's Father/ Dwarf in the flask, or Hohenheim of Light. Two of the most interesting characters in anime! The Dwarf in the Flask episode... with the music... Perfection. You're awesome man. Thanks.
Another great video.
I love this video so much
Envy walked so that Zeke Yeager could run. And they both died of suicide (Zeke's death was assisted suicide)
You should revisit more of full metal alchemist
I'd say that the philsopher's stone does not bypass the law of equivilant exchange but acts more like a battery. During it's creation a horrific price was paid and all the people using it are simply collecting the debt. Philospher's stones stop working if they are used constantly. That is when the debt is paid.
I love your videos so much
Damn your video hit my emotions deep
Great Video ;) could you some kind of Video about greed? Because he is my Favourite character from this series :)
Very eye opening
You should do a video on “Koi to Uso” or “Your Lie In April”
So basically, “They hate us, cuz they ain’t us!”
Im still waiting for you to do Monster!
Sad envy 😢
i love envy so fucking much
Envy is a boy, for those who are curious
Philosopher stones do not bypass equivalent exchange, they use the human souls inside as fuel, thats why they do eventually shatter, though it takes a long time to break them down, just as human alchemy is more than possible, bypassing equivalent exchange was just a simpler explanation offered early and then it was shown that it was there to hide the truth of philosophers stones
Envy still my favorite character
I just finished this show, cNt wait to see what u say.
Ur vids are so good
Man thjs is really great.....
The end made me want to tear up a bit...😔
Fun fact in the original fma envy is the son of hohenheim
man i fuckin love envy
And I'm crying shit...
Why Envy is my fav homunculus... idk...?
Waiting for Greed..
You have a very good channel 👍😁👍👌
He broke his leg God
You should do one on greed
Envy disliked because He is jealous of Sage's sub count and attention
Being jealous of someone who is highly underrated is really not saying much.
Oooooooooooooooooooh...
You should the whole cast of homuculi
Envy best character in fma
Take a shot everytime he says envy.
