I once had a dog that was hit by a car then runned over by it. It happened so quickly that I couldnt believe what happened in front of me. I cried and cried, the people around me thought it was funny. I was made fun of for crying over an animal (not even anyone in my family cared to comfort me ). But all i knew was, I loved that dog and it hurts when you lose someone or something you love. MAy you always be remembered, RIP My COFE.

What a shit rescue organisation - took the puppy back from this loving family. I can feel - what Ellen feel! That is absolutely dramatic, no fault. Not Her fault. It is a fault from the rescue organisation. Iggy (the puppy) had a great home with loving people and a second dog / fellow. They remove it, just because Ellen did not ask the rescue organisation for it or having stupid regulations! Shame on them! Shame on this stupid rules! Things went terrible wrong. I am really sorry for that.

Meike Peters I'm certain the puppy is very happy. They don't react the way people do. My mother used to raise, breed and sell German Shepherds. I would get very attached to the puppies, but they were sold. They adjust very quickly.

Sajee Nalla I think it was about both. She said that the dog was being taken back by the shelter where there wasn't a home and wasn't a family. She cared about the family as well as the dog.
Well this is 11 yrs later but I think the family probably just needed to apply & the organization would've approved them. Sounds like the organization was a stickler for policy & the family just needed to follow it's protocol no matter if silly or not, to get the dog back. It seems like more was going on with Ellen. Life can sure be overwhelming at times.
It's actually very difficult, as someone who worked at a shelter, to have someone who has give you the word, and signed a paper with the agrement to keep and protect and love an animal that you rescued and that took so much of your time to take care, to have that person to tell you so late that they give the dog away when you are trying to get some photos or information about the situation of the animal, It's just really BAD. Even if they have a reason like Ellen, is still irresponsible, and make you feel like you are taken as a joke. Why have people signing papers to have fully responsability to take care of an animal, if they are going to do whatever they feel like after? Like I said, Ellen had a good reason, but she was irresponsible for not talking to the shelter before doing something. I'm not sure about what happened with this case, the dog probably return with it's new family, but normally we wouldn't trust someone like that anymore, unfortunately.

I don't know how shelters work in the USA, and if they are all the same, but in Argentina we don't put down animals, even if they stay their whole life on a shelter. That's why we have strictest rules when it comes to adoption, we take care of abandoned and tortured animals every hour, every minute, we take them in, and without ANY help of the State, only from ordinary people. That's why I repeat, I don't know how shelters work at her country, but I can empathize with the hard work they do, and THAT'S why I said that it must be hard even for them to have to do something like that. No. Sadly, from an article I read (pretty sure this is accurate) the organization said they would not be "bullied" by people like Ellen who are trying to "use their power and wealth to push people around". It's sick. I get that there's guidelines set in place, but shelters are set in place to unite animals with families. Ellen was so sad, how could she be the bully in this situation?? They also said that they wouldn't allow small dogs to be adopted by families with children under 14. What? I got my small dog when I was 8 or 9 years old. Having children isn't threatening the dog's safety.
Yeah it wasn't the most professional thing to do, but this is why I love Ellen: her heart. She's not crying because of a dog. She's crying because she feels responsible for taking it away from a family to a place that isn't a home. It's not a great feeling when you think you are doing something good and it results badly. Ellen's 'family' didn't want to go through the hassle of following the right procedure, so the dog went to another family who did all the necessary paperwork. It's a dog. It's not a child. When she paid for it (not adopted it, because it's an animal) it should've been hers to keep it or give it away. But, she did sign a paper promising to give it back if she doesn't want it anymore. I don't understand why the people wouldn't listen to her, though, and realize that she had found a great home for the dog.
People do adopt dogs you know! We have huge shelters in the uk that do it. you apply and they check if your home is fit and if you are able to look after the dog then you adopt the dog but usually its yours theres none of this small print or giving it back you adopt them you keep them, its free no money exchanges hands otherwise you purchased the dog and your the owner

It’s a policy to protect the pet. I’m sure the adoption counselor went over this and the reasons why it’s in the contract. Ellen was doing the loving act yet there’s reasons for rules. If the family had gone through proper adoption process, they may have gotten the dog back. But I haven’t read or heard anything otherwise.
my parents owned a dog rescue, so i grew up with 12+ at any given time. Unfortunatly, there is a reason for that rule, and its a rule we had also. When a family asks to be given an animal we would go to their home and run down a checklist to make sure that that animal was going to a good home. Because some of those dogs came originally from fighting rings, their genetics were highly prized by people who are into that, and to circumvent our inspection and aquire a favored bloodline, they would have someone else adopt, and then just take the dog elsewhere. often we would go yo visit a year later, and the dog would be gone. Or police would raid a fighting ring, only to rediscover a chipped dog already seized and given to us. We were even threatened with jail time because of such things, when wed onky wanted good things. Its for this reason the rule exists. And every forever family was made sure to understand this before they took a dog home. HOWEVER, it was ALWAYS on a case by case basis. Had this happened with us, we would have just asked to see the new home to make sure it was okay, had they not called us to begin with. I cry now, and am heartbroken for ellen and those kids. I have to know what happened...

I once had a dog that was hit by a car then runned over by it. It happened so quickly that I couldnt believe what happened in front of me. I cried and cried, the people around me thought it was funny. I was made fun of for crying over an animal (not even anyone in my family cared to comfort me ). But all i knew was, I loved that dog and it hurts when you lose someone or something you love. MAy you always be remembered, RIP My COFE.

What a shit rescue organisation - took the puppy back from this loving family. I can feel - what Ellen feel! That is absolutely dramatic, no fault. Not Her fault. It is a fault from the rescue organisation. Iggy (the puppy) had a great home with loving people and a second dog / fellow. They remove it, just because Ellen did not ask the rescue organisation for it or having stupid regulations! Shame on them! Shame on this stupid rules! Things went terrible wrong. I am really sorry for that.

Meike Peters I'm certain the puppy is very happy. They don't react the way people do. My mother used to raise, breed and sell German Shepherds. I would get very attached to the puppies, but they were sold. They adjust very quickly.

Well this is 11 yrs later but I think the family probably just needed to apply & the organization would've approved them. Sounds like the organization was a stickler for policy & the family just needed to follow it's protocol no matter if silly or not, to get the dog back. It seems like more was going on with Ellen. Life can sure be overwhelming at times.

It's actually very difficult, as someone who worked at a shelter, to have someone who has give you the word, and signed a paper with the agrement to keep and protect and love an animal that you rescued and that took so much of your time to take care, to have that person to tell you so late that they give the dog away when you are trying to get some photos or information about the situation of the animal, It's just really BAD. Even if they have a reason like Ellen, is still irresponsible, and make you feel like you are taken as a joke. Why have people signing papers to have fully responsability to take care of an animal, if they are going to do whatever they feel like after? Like I said, Ellen had a good reason, but she was irresponsible for not talking to the shelter before doing something. I'm not sure about what happened with this case, the dog probably return with it's new family, but normally we wouldn't trust someone like that anymore, unfortunately.

That's why I repeat, I don't know how shelters work at her country, but I can empathize with the hard work they do, and THAT'S why I said that it must be hard even for them to have to do something like that. No. Sadly, from an article I read (pretty sure this is accurate) the organization said they would not be "bullied" by people like Ellen who are trying to "use their power and wealth to push people around". It's sick. I get that there's guidelines set in place, but shelters are set in place to unite animals with families. Ellen was so sad, how could she be the bully in this situation?? They also said that they wouldn't allow small dogs to be adopted by families with children under 14. What? I got my small dog when I was 8 or 9 years old. Having children isn't threatening the dog's safety.

Yeah it wasn't the most professional thing to do, but this is why I love Ellen: her heart. She's not crying because of a dog. She's crying because she feels responsible for taking it away from a family to a place that isn't a home. It's not a great feeling when you think you are doing something good and it results badly. Nope. It's their job to find the right trustworthy people. Ellen's 'family' didn't want to go through the hassle of following the right procedure, so the dog went to another family who did all the necessary paperwork.

She adopted the dog, just like a child once you adopt a child that child is yours you are the legal guardian. I hate talking about children and animals that way. As if they are property but that is the only way I can explain it. If she had been looking after the dog or fostering we call it that would be different your expected to give it back when or if the time comes. But adoption you can't take them back that's so wrong
It's a dog. It's not a child. When she paid for it (not adopted it, because it's an animal) it should've been hers to keep it or give it away. But, she did sign a paper promising to give it back if she doesn't want it anymore. I don't understand why the people wouldn't listen to her, though, and realize that she had found a great home for the dog.
People do adopt dogs you know! We have huge shelters in the uk that do it. you apply and they check if your home is fit and if you are able to look after the dog then you adopt the dog but usually its yours theres none of this small print or giving it back you adopt them you keep them, its free no money exchanges hands otherwise you purchased the dog and your the owner

It’s a policy to protect the pet. I’m sure the adoption counselor went over this and the reasons why it’s in the contract. Ellen was doing the loving act yet there’s reasons for rules. If the family had gone through proper adoption process, they may have gotten the dog back. But I haven’t read or heard anything otherwise.
my parents owned a dog rescue, so i grew up with 12+ at any given time. Unfortunatly, there is a reason for that rule, and its a rule we had also. When a family asks to be given an animal we would go to their home and run down a checklist to make sure that that animal was going to a good home. Because some of those dogs came originally from fighting rings, their genetics were highly prized by people who are into that, and to circumvent our inspection and aquire a favored bloodline, they would have someone else adopt, and then just take the dog elsewhere. often we would go yo visit a year later, and the dog would be gone. Or police would raid a fighting ring, only to rediscover a chipped dog already seized and given to us. We were even threatened with jail time because of such things, when wed onky wanted good things. Its for this reason the rule exists. And every forever family was made sure to understand this before they took a dog home.
HOWEVER, it was ALWAYS on a case by case basis. Had this happened with us, we would have just asked to see the new home to make sure it was okay, had they not called us to begin with. I cry now, and am heartbroken for ellen and those kids. I have to know what happened...

She messed up, the dog charity visited the dog and said the home wasn't suitable and removed it.

I think it's gorgeous that she cares so much, we need more people who love other living things like this in the world. The planet is so full of hate, so full of other people trying to prosecute people for loving or simply being. If people made an effort to teach their family and friends to love and keep their anger to themselves, including as an ANONYMOUS person on the internet, then things would be better.
When Ellen cries, I cry. She's too good of a person to be hurt like that.. She cares so much about everyone.
She seems like such a nice person... I just wanted to hug her. I felt so bad for her. She is so positive and this can happen to anyone. We are human beings. I seriously can't think about that someone can actually not like her. This almost made me cry. Now she is happier... Or at least I think she is... She is truly an amazing person!

Robert Hughes Ellen has been through SO much, she lost her girlfriend in a tragic accident at 23, she came out on national TV and was pretty much shunned from the entertainment world for years, her father made her leave their house when she came out of the closet bc they were "afraid that she would corrupt the minds of his 2 young step daughter's," She doesn't "just cry over a puppy." She has a huge heart, maybe you should stop be jealous and resentful and respect her kindness !
