There's something else out there, something energetic, and what we see here is more than just being born with the ability to play music, it's a glimpse of something deeper than that.

She is ok in classical music and composing, but amazing at jazz
Ok in performing a classical piece of music...for a six year old.
That's because jazz many times easier than classical music. You can literally do whatever you feel like with it, and if you forget, you can just blunder over it with a jazz scale and some pedal. You forget something in a classical piece like Bach or Mozart? That takes much more skill to recover from. Not to mention how much more difficult stylistically and technically it is to play classical vs jazz

They may have moulded her, but as we have seen, as she has got older it is clear that her parents have not been pushy. It could have been so easy for her to be "pushed over the edge".
At the age of 15 she is still very humble, almost to the point of be being shy about her skills. Just a truly loveable child.

I agree. They all say she "played in perfect pitch". WTF is playing with perfect pitch? Do they mean, playing the perfect notes? Lots of 2 year olds also play perfect notes for songs they learn.

YULEA17x And calling her a prodigy and the next Mozart is beyond idiotic. Being a prodigy means having a natural gift but with the piano it takes a bunch of time to learn and Mozart was a musical genius. Right up there with Beethoven when he was only 5. Don't get me wrong she does deserve credit but give credit where credit is due and the right amount of credit.

I would think both. Her grandmother taught her piano and from what I remember supposedly came from her side of family..but definately God gifted.

You MUST check out the Emily Bear, 13, performance (in 2014) of Gershwin's Rapsody in Blue with full professional symphony orchestra.
Be aware that this is an extremely difficult work to play (and from memory) AND even more extraordinary, it has several totally exposed piano only sections, everything played up to world class tempos, but more astounding is her exquisite maturity musically.
I'm 71 and have played the famous Gershwin clarinet solo with the iconic glissando several times, so I'm very familiar with the work plus have heard many commercial CD's and professional concerts. This is by far and away the most compelling thoughtful and artistic performance I've ever heard. It literally was perfect!
It was interesting to watch the orchestra member's faces as she played. Full respect and amazement! Please watch, you won't be disappointed (she's ONLY 13 when this was performed). Thanks

This is insane !!! Ellen is asking a list of simple questions to little Emily, with a kind of delicate and easy approach as if Emily is a typical, fragile, immature, average, clueless kid....and little Emily is answering these questions with all the grace, style, poise and maturity of a young adult !! Ellen, just like most of us, forgets that some kids are very advanced for their age. Most of the famous teen musicians have been playing their instrument or singing for over ten years. With that experience, the skills of concentration, artistic intellect, performance, confidence, and maturity are also well developed, because playing music takes a lot of discipline, focus and commitment. She may look like a six year old, but in fact she is far older in so many ways.

Emily was born to be a composer, music for movies is her talent. I would wish she had just ninety nine percent of John William's talent. I have seen her live three times and she composes short solo piano pieces on the spot at an audience members request.
