It actually feels like I know more about the shoe, unlike many other TH-cam reviews. I am really interested to see what the future brings to this channel.
Hey Ryan! New subscriber here! I've also ran in the Altra Timp 5's and found them to be very good and better than the new Altra Experience Wild, but I also found myself wanting to run more in the Topo MTN Racer 5 (5mm drop) or Topo Pursuit 2 (0mm drop). That said, I feel that the Timp 5 outsole and midsole are very good overall though I did notice that the upper retains water inside the shoe (after getting it wet via a stream crossing) which may be an issue for some. I'll be interesting to compare the Timp 5 with the up-and-coming Olympus 6 considering that the Timp 5 has the "better" EGOMax midsole. Anyways, great in-depth review and feedback! Cheers!!!
Thanks for your feedback. I have overall heard good things about Topo -- I know on boards that I frequent a lot of people have tried them out because they aren't huge fans of the LP7/8. I also haven't tried running in any non-0mm drop shoes. I really prefer the 0mm drop (some of my gym shoes are 4mm drop) -- all of my running shoes are 0mm drop (road and trail). I will certainly give the Olympus 6 a look -- they do look like a very solid shoe. They certainly check a lot of the boxes. However since I started running -- I have never had a trail shoe with the stack height of the Olympus, so that will be interesting to feel. I do avoid water with my shoes (I will jump creeks or slow down and use rocks to cross when possible), but I can certainly see the "tough" upper of the Timp 5 being slower to drain. It will certainly drain slower than the Mont Blancs. Currently trail running/hiking shoes: 1. LP8 - hiking 2. Vibram Five Fingers - V-Trail 2.0 3. Timp 5 - my favorite running 4. Mont Blanc Carbon -- long trail races
Yo! Fellow GRT. Love it. I've always did events in Lone Peaks - thoughts on TIMP vs. now that LP 7s and 8s are a little bit different than the legendary 5s and 6s? LOL nvm - addressed at 8:45
I have used LPs since the 1.0 release, I feel like starting with LP6 and more so in LP7 and LP8 they have turned the Lone Peak into a hiking shoe that is very capable of running, while the Timp is probably their preferred performance trail running show. They don't seem to know what to do with the superior. I want to like the superior, but it is uncomfortable. I have read rumors online they might bring back the King MT -- that would be awesome.
@@veryadequate ended up getting a pair; just rucked (ran) the San Diego RockNRoll Half with them (very light load) - I'm happy with them for runs and trots, but not so much as an all terrain true hiker/rucker.
I'm disappointed with Timp 5. I've got 2 pairs of Timp 4s and they're much more comfortable in the toebox. The bumper of Timp 5 is too thick and folds/bends in a wrong way, which bites around the big toe. The outsole is wider than on Timp 4, but the Timp 5 toebox feels more cramped. I hate this kind of ridiculousness. For me, the shoe is unsuitable for long runs (21k plus). This is the major fault. I don't really care about Vibram, because I always slow down instead of trusting the shoe.

Thanks :) I am working on a Vanish Carbon 2 review now
Good details on the new Timp, thanks for the review.
Thank you

good review keep going
What do you think about durability of timp5?
So far I am very impressed with it. The material is very tough in the upper and the grip is made from Vibram, so I expect them to be durable
What's the song at the start?
