    Way to go Chris well done. Anyone who has fished for some time knows what its like to lose a big fish, heartbreak for sure. But what keeps you going back for more? That's right, the chance at another big fish.

    Something new tuna anglers struggle with is the concept that you will tire these big fish out. You won't. They are learning, and recovering. You need to break their will early. You do that with more drag. After they are pinwheeling, use the boat's motion to winch them up...no more line should go out. Good luck on the next one...trust your gear, it can handle it.

    • @ChrisPfish2

      Thanks for the tip. First time, so yeah it was a learning experience.

    What a bummer, thats always a heartbreaker no matter what. Regardless of loosing the fish yall killed it, love watching you guys fish up there while im down in SoCal. For that being your first fish that size you guys did really really well, I work on a boat in the summer and I can confidentially tell you that you guys did a much better job than the majority of people on fish that size for the first time. Lots to improve on but thats what keeps us going out, tight lines boys!!

    That was indeed a large bigeye.....I have caught several of those in my lifetime fishing out of San Diego. It's been years since I have caught one as they tend to be caught in Albacore years. Single 7691 Mustad is the hook of choice and a slightly larger feather for trolling. My track record is about 1 boated for every two hooked. Awesome experience, that you will never forget and you got it on video! Congrats

    • @ChrisPfish2
      @ChrisPfish2  ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder how old those little albies are? We haven’t seen them in socal in any numbers in a long time but when we had them here they were usually 25+lbs and ran with the bluefin.

    • @ChrisPfish2
      @ChrisPfish2  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah they grow fast so maybe 2-3 years old. I know different parts of the world have different size albies, as the fish migrate and change locations as they grow. My understanding is fort bragg avg is around 15lb. They get to 70-80lb but biggest in bragg is 30lb. I think last year one 40lb was caught which was a big deal. One top loin on one of the small ones makes the perfect amount of poke for 2/3 people. Thanks for watching

    Great video ! I am by no means an albacore expert but I have fished for albi's a bunch of times with guys who were albacore experts. They never had hooks on their hand lines. The hand lines were just meant to attract the fish. Also, if you want to have a blast next time, when you catch a fish on a lure and fight em to the boat, don't bring it in. Leave it hung right by the boat. Have some live bait rods set up and chum with some live bait and you will have the time of your lives. Nothing like catching Albi's on live bait. ✌️

    I moved from the east coast of Australia to the west coat, about 20 years ago now, and I miss my Albacore fishing, they don't seem to be caught around here. Maybe because the water is quite shallow here compared to the east coast. Just wondering what you mean by "Albacore speed"? My experience was around 8 knots was best....I've just grabbed a couple of mad macs lures today, to try on the little bluefin around here tomorrow. Cheers and tight lines :)
