    Same issue! I feel your frustration! I bought the S9+ bundle (with Braava jet M6 mop) directly from iRobot as a Cmas gift for my other half. The S9 error 31'd-out immediately. I initiated a replacement on 12/27/20. They said 2-4 weeks to ship a replacement and offered an accessory kit as a consolation... which is still backordered too. Ha! Can't use the accessories anyway if the vacuum won't run. It's been more than 4 weeks so I called yesterday (1/28/2021)... the replacement is backordered for another 2-4 weeks. I just sent them an email asking to extend the warranty for this inconvenience. Let's see what they say. Interestingly, the rep said they were having lots of issues with the S9... So they're aware of it!!!! I wonder if they're knowingly shipping out products that don't work. Likely!
    BTW - The Braava Jet M6 I received in the bundle was also defective. It couldn't recognize iRobot's reusable wet pads. iRobot sent me a replacement M6 in 7 days and it seems to work as it should. The rep was funny and said, "There are a lot of issues with the S9, but only like 2 out of 10 with the Braava's." I was thinking, "Wait! So 20% lemon rate with Braava's? THAT'S A TERRIBLE failure rate!" I have until 2/27 to return the whole bundle, so if things aren't rectified by then, I'm moving onto a different company. Unacceptable!

      I received an email on Feb 3 saying a new S9 would ship Feb 15... it's not Feb 20th and still on backorder. WTH??? I'm beginning to feel like it's time to box it all up and send it back.

      I received the replacement S9 on Feb 28... works as it should. The replacement didn't come with a battery so I was wondering why it wasn't working (Error 1). Turns out you have to perform surgery on the old robot and move the battery to the new one. It's not hard to do, but I was a bit surprised... and annoyed.

      was it only not able to recognize the reuseable washable pad or did the same thing happen with all the other pads?

      @@RileySlaya Strangely it was only the reusable wet pads. It had no issue recognizing the disposable wet and dry pads.

    The same issue for me, for the second time. I got a replacement 3 weeks ago and now the new one is having the same issue again. It's been 30 minutes on the phone waiting for an irobot specialist.

    Brought the Roomba s9 and it’s been nothing but trouble. The customer service reps iRobot are nice people (based in Dominica) but every call takes 45 minutes to an hour including waiting time. The robot constantly gets stuck (error 31) and is now having problems connecting to the internet. I think I’m sending mine back. I’ve had to call their tech support five bloody times and the thing is still not working.

    Had same issue, after 1 month of working perfectly cleaning every day my s9 started randomly just stopping in the middle of empty room saying it was stuck. I did the reboot process multiple times but after 3-4 instances of it doing this it now just refuses to start and immediately gives error 31. I called iRobot who was obviously very aware of the issue (only troubleshoot for about 5 minutes) they provided below options.
    1. Send replacement s9+ (on back order for 3-4 weeks) w\free replenish kit
    2. Replace with i7+ and $300 gift voucher
    3. Send a loaner of i7 until s9 is fixed (off backorder)
    I took option 2 given the number of reports of them sending out still faulty s9's (sometimes multiple times).

    UPDATE: 1/20/2021 Error 31 is getting worse and worse each week, even with the battery pull. I pulled the rollers out and cleaned the unit and the irobot was beeping nonstop when docked. So, I placed a call to iRobot with 40+ min hold time. I asked why my s9+ still hasnt been shipped when I was promised a replacement in 2-4 weeks. That call was placed in DEC and its not end of JAN. They said that order never went through. WHAT?!! they promised me a replacement and that order replacement never went through and now you want me to wait another 2-4 weeks?!!! I was FURIOUS!! i demanded a loaner a s7+ and at first said they had them in stock and them suddenly none in stock. i DEMANDED that loaner because I can not get by 2-4 weeks of not vacuuming when I have a dog that sheds. I also asked about the extended 2yr warranty they promised me. HE said if I get a loaner, I will lose that 2 YR extended warranty. WHAT?!!! I'm not too happy about this.

      @@Katie-Flowie i read all the reviews on amazon before placing my s9+. there was maybe a few bad apples but after experiencing my s9+. i DO NOT recommend it. thank god I have extended warranty from amazon when irobot decides to not extend my 2yr warranty. now i'm waiting for my s7+ loaner. Good news is I did receive an email confirmation this time.

    iRobot had a bad batch of S9 boards that caused the error 31’issue. They are aware of it and are replacing robots immediately with new ones (not refurbs). I just got my s9 last week and immediately it gave error 31. Called iRobot and they had a replacement in my hand in 4 days. They were super nice and got me taken care of. No company is immune to manufacturing defects. It’s how they step up and take care of you that matters.I’ve tied many robot vacuums from shark, dbot abs eufy and nothing comes close to the cleaning power and battery life of the S9+

    Having the same issue right after taking it out of the box. Paying ~$1500 and getting issue in the first couple minutes is the most frustrating thing ever!

      you are truly not alone on this. There's been a lot of complaints on reddit and facebook irobot group. very frustrating and solution for irobot is to send out another one with backorder to 2-4 weeks or months. go to home depot/lowes and get yourself a regular vacuum cleaner in the meantime. thats the only solution right now.

      I called them and they will send a replacement in 2 weeks. They assured to me that the replacement won’t have this issue.
      They offered two options:
      1- send a S9 replacement in two weeks and extend my warranty for two years + provide some accessories.
      2- send a S7 loaner immediately , then the s9 replacement in two weeks. But without extending the warranty and no extra accessories.
      so I chose option 1.

    I ordered my s9 directly through iRobot. So frustrating. They are sending me the s7 until I have a working s9 unit. Initially, I was told 2-4 weeks and I’m past that point. My recommendation.... CALL them and get the s7 until you get what you paid for! It’s Ridiculous!

    Check to make sure when you installed your app that you installed on the 2.4 channel. Make sure you are on the 2.4 channel when you communicate with the vacuum. I overlooked this on the initial SD series I tried a year to work. When installing the replacement I noticed that detailed. The bot cannot effectively communicate on 5. Their techs never asked me what wifi channel I run if on. I name my channels to insure I can distinguish which is the 2.4.

      @@gibco25-offical56 I would try these things. First realize you have two feeds that come out your wifi router. Verify which one is 2.4 and 5. I add names 2.4 and 5 to front side of name so I know which is which. Then uninstall the app. Restart then add the app. This time when installing pay close attention. When it has you connect to wifi choose the 2.4.
      Before deleting your first app, see if you can simply connect your phone to the 2.4 before opening the app. See if that helps. If not the next thing I would do is reinstall app carefully selecting the 2.4.

    ok, so this is what I did and it has sorta worked... I opened the little b up and stuffed some cardboard in-between the bumper and the plastic frame, but made sure to not block and ir sensors so it can sense when it gets close to a object, but it may move some objects that it didn't before, it moved a whole chair for me. It works for most of the cleaning when it does get error 31 again I just bash the living hell on the front bumper and hit clean and it goes right back to work. This is only a temp fix obviously until I get my replacement.

    I've had this problem too, only it's called error 30 and when you click through the app to the 'help' it calls it error 2-5. But it's all the same problem - one minute of cleaning and it stops dead. I was in touch with iRobot about it who were slow to respond and unhelpful. In the end I got my money back from the credit card. :-(

    I just got replacement #2... got it out of the box and it does not work either... why are they putting out the expensive vacuum if it has issues? So frustrating..Grrrrrrrrrrr

      TTTTTTTTTTOTALLY AGREE with you! i could have purchased a dumb $200 from lowes or home depot and not have all these issues. Yeah, irobot will send out replacements, BUT people dont understand is they are currently backordered to 1-2 month. Can anyone get by 1-2 month of not vacuuming?? I think NOT!

    Dec 30 experience contacting call center:
    I just called today (30 min wait 10 min call) Purchased Nov 29 via Amazon Services Inc (did not purchase extended warrantee).
    Roomba s9+ status:
    Experienced error 31 at least 4-5 times. Rebooted 4 times prior to call. Also have 'cannot communicate with cloud' error (no problem with my Wi-Fi and S9 is in same place as old S7).
    They are sending replacement in 2-3 weeks, getting replenish kit and 2yr warrantee.
    Thx to other comments I asked and they are sending new S9 not refurbished.
    Also asked if the call center knew if iRobot had fixed the problem in new machines - he did not know (not surprised)
    Disappointed in this quality problem with product that was released July 2019 - but this may be a more recent mfg problem.
    Call center experience was much better than other offshore call centers I have talked to. I will update when I get replacement

      have you tried removing the rollers and remove the bottom plate to pull the battery out? it might reset everything. I've tried it and its been working with no error 31 for day 3 today. doesnt hurt to try since you wont get your replacement till the next 2-4 weeks

      @@fondoo Thx. I tried this and it did not resolve the problem. I also posted on twitter listing @irobot and @colinangle (CEO) about this problem. People getting multiple faulty replacements indicate a serious problem with their procedures. I understand mfg problems (stuff happens) however, how a company responds to those problems is the litmus test. It seems like iRobot technical problem response team response team needs to level up. Problems are falling thru the cracks and this is not world class service.

      If you're still alive after 2 years, maybe consider the i7/i8? They're known to be reliable, they're cheap, they map out the room, and they self empty. Basically the s9 but $600 cheaper.

    *UPDATE: have not received my replacement yet or my free replenishment kit. Here's something odd. I have the whole first floor mapped and have it schedule each day to do certain areas(ex: kitchen, living rm, and dining rm). the schedule cleaning areas somehow cleans other areas which its not suppose to and what ends up happening is it dies middle of the vacuuming because the batteries was low and it didnt know to go back home to recharge. anyone run into this issue??*

    so I had the same issue and to fix it was to reconfigure your network setting again then place the roomba back on the base and that should fix it.

      I reset my s9+ back to factory reset from the app. lost my map and it didnt fix the error 31. Pulling the battery out for 3-4 mins actually helped. I no longer am getting error 31 now and its actually functionally normal like the day 1 when I first brought it home

    Just got mine today. Can’t get it to map a single room without getting error 31. I’ll be calling their customer service tomorrow. Already took filter and battery out, and reset them. So frustrating. Watched hours of reviews before choosing this model. And can’t get it to work even 5 minutes!!! 🤬🤬🤬

      @@fondoo I did. Called Customer Service. I’m in queue with everyone else for a replacement (2-4 weeks, with extra accessory assortment & extended 2yr warranty). Hopefully, #2 works. I get error 31 every 3-5 minutes with this one, out of the box.

    UPDATE: 1/31/2021 after 1/20 calls. I did get a email confirmation that the s7+ loaner is shipping this time. BUT still I'm very upset that the DEC's call promised me a 2-4 week replacement which was never set in stone. Nor did I get any email confirmation that was going out in 2-4 weeks. I could have spend less on a Shark from Lowes and not deal with this 2-4 week crap!!

    have just been disconnecting the battery and in the process I noticed that the small wheel at the back of the robot wasn't turning well. As I've had two catastrophic experiences with this model, I checked my other broken s9+ and the wheel on that rotated freely. so I pulled the pin (axle) out of the wheel and guess what? - it's bent. My partner says that it wold take a massive force to bend the pin and I believe it is highly unlikely to have happened in use of the robot. Can you check to see whether your wheel is turning freely?

    Mine did exactly that today. It is my third s 9550 in a year. I never had a problem with the 750. This one has one problem after another.

      WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT UPGRADE TO THE IROBOT TO THE BETA VERSION. ITS HORRIBLE!! i got my replacement and so far, so good with no error 31 of hell

      @@fondoo Thanks, I don't plan to. I prefer directing the vacuum area as needed so I can make sure things are picked up and doors open.
      Be sure you set the iroomba up on the 2.4g not the 5. This may have been my year long problem. No tech ever asked me which band of WiFi I installed on it. It was when installing my third robot in a year that the install instructions say the robot runs on the 2.4. It is not programed for 5. It worked but it never mapped well, got lost often, on and on. So what I did is rename the ban putting 2.4 in the name to make sure I set it up on the correct ban. Also when connecting to your WiFi to your phone be sure you connect to the same ban. I have successfuly mapped, divided rooms, named and now on the third job. So far so good.

    We are having exact same issue, just bought it 4 days ago, it is going back to amazon. And we might be buying one from best buy to see if we have better luck. At least if it fails they will exchange or return it.

      @@jasongoodwin8596 I took mines apart and cleaned behind the green rollers. There was caked dog hair behind it. I also removed the battery off to hopefully reset it. No Error 31 for 2 days now after doing a full scan map.

    Hum, i was thinking about buying it since in Europe Roborock only sells the S7 on Ebay, AliExpress and Geekbuying through chinese sellers (all very reliable in terms of warranty...) but after seeing this video, i'm not sure i'll throw away 1499€ (+/- 1799,83!) for having this kind of problems.

    Exactly the same issue happened to me in the first use week. Two months struggling with this bloody device.
    iRobot told me they will send me a complete set, including cleaning base, but without battery. Still waiting after one month because of lack of stock.
    I'm afraid this is a failed model (navigation sensor failure) and iRobot probably is retrofitting/redesigning that sensor.
    Very dissapointed after a 1500€ purchasing and my home full of pet's hair!!!

    Guys. I eventually bailed on trying to get the robot to work. Customer service was having me mess around with my Wi-Fi settings and I just knew that that was not the problem. I had purchased a couple of other S9 plus is his gifts and I took one of the other robots out to see how it would work. So far it has worked perfectly. I actually think I’m gonna wind up keeping the three robots although I am tempted to send them back and wait to see how the new Roborock compares..

      yeah, i'm very disappointed on my irobot roomba s9+ that purchased now, 4 month ago. today, i got that message that the trash bag bin was full. it wasnt super full, but I replaced it anyways. that wouldnt clear, then i replaced the air filter and that seems to work. BUT soon later the Error 31 was back. I disassembled the bottom and rollers and cleaned it once again, and PULLED the battery for 2-4 minutes to reset. Put everything together and started cleaning the living room and half way throught completing it lost connection and couldnt return back. I'm getting reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally fed up with this expensive paper weight now.

    Having same problem! Did you get an email confirming the replacement Roomba right after the call? Just got off the call myself but haven't received any email with instructions

    Seems like some type of sensor in the bumper is having an issue. Reminds me of my Roomba 560, where the left bumper switch failed. Now its starts spinning and gives an error after a minute. It did last me 13 years though, and I'm looking to get it fixed this weekend. I would upgrade to a better robot but most are too expensive for me at the moment.

      Keep up the 560. It's very reliable and as long as you will be able to buy batteries for it, keep it. You can get parts for it for very cheap, and it will never give up unlike new wifi model Roombas. Older model Roombas, till 900 series are amazing hard working robots, which are super reliable. You can not say this anymore about the new models, like the S or i series.

    UPDATE: 2/2/2021 Error 31 is getting worse and worse to a point that app says, UNABLE TO START.
    if anyone gets an error 31, kick the front bumper 2-3 times and press the CLEAN button.

    I don't like the s9. I had so much trouble with it on the other hands, my i3 + was purchased 1 year before and still working. What is wrong with that model with 2× the price.

    I hated my Roomba i7. Had no suction power, the navigation system was, well absolutely terrible 😂 After 6 months of ownership, it ran over cat vomit and never recovered.

      contact roomba for a replacement if its not sucking. my new replacement seems to be working fine now. firmware is extremely buggy and they are aware of it and fixing as much as possible

      @@fondoo So yesterday I called them and they had me take off the bottom panel and remove the battery and leave it out for 30 minutes. After I reinstalled the battery and put the bottom panel back on everything worked fine and I use the vacuum quite a bit today as well and it is still working fine. Hopefully the issue does not arise again!

    hi guys. i’m planning to buy a roomba s9+. hopefully i don’t get error 31. if that happened to me immediately after i got it out of the box, i would’ve bashed the bloody hell out of that stupid piece of shit, and would’ve thrown it into the box, and sent it back. i’m gonna be furious if i get this error. fondoo, is it possible to call irobot to see if they can help even if you don’t have a warranty on the robot?

      contact irobot and open a service ticket so they can send you a replacement and extend your warranty for 2 more years! then, take the bottom panel apart and remove the battery to reset it.

      @@mariuszlewandowski202 remove the rollers and make sure they are clean and nothing is caked inside it. remove the battery for 5-10 minutes and see if it helps. I found a long string behind my brush.

      I just did a factory reset from the app via settings and that seems to have done the trick. It really sucks because I’ve had it mapping this house for the two weeks that I’ve had this thing and all of that is gone. But, it’s working so I guess I can’t complain?

    This is easily the worst roomba I've owned. It used to be great. But it has gotten worse over time.
    Mine isn't quite this bad, but it often can't make its way back to charge and constantly keeps going towards things it just hit while trying to clean or go back to the dock.
    The mapping is also now crap.
    I still run my i7 and this simply because they do pick up a lot. But I rely mostly on my new dreame x40 ultra.

    oh yeah, what frustrated me about my i7 is that it would squeak constantly. my ears would be screaming bloody murder and i just lost it. it even almost hurt me when i had to jam my fucking hands into the rollers to get it to stop since it didn't stop running when i lifted it up off the floor. it wouldn't ever update, and it had a firmware breakdown. sent it back to best buy, furious to the point where i wanted to destroy it, because i was pissed.

    *UPDATE: I found this on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/roomba/comments/kk45ym/error_31_s_model/ so I decided to take the bottom cover apart. Didnt find the wheels being looser or not, but I did do a deep cleaning removing all the caked up dog hair behind the green rollers. I also found strings from the dog toy rope on the corner brushes. Also removed the battery hoping to reset everything. I put everything back together and no error 31 of hell. I ran the full vacuum today till it went back home to recharge. i hope another full vacuum tomorrow I should get a full map completed.

    I will say you didn't hold the clean button for 20 seconds in the video like the app suggests. The 10 second hold you did is not the same "reboot" that the vacuum was asking for. There is a 10 second reboot, and a 20 second full system reboot.

    **UPDATE: contacted iRobot on 12/27/2020 @ 10:27AM and the call wait time was quick. They acknowledged it was a known issue and Error 31 of hell is a bumper sensor issue. The replacement is currently backordered for 2-4 weeks and as a courtesy they will send me a free replenishment kit and extend it another 2 more years warranty. Although it was purchased from Amazon and I did purchased the Asurion extended warranty. Supposedly, the new batch of s9+ have fixed the bumper issue.**

      ​@@jonproctor6723 I bought the S9+ bundle (with Braava jet M6 mop) directly from iRobot as a Cmas gift for my other half. The S9 error 31'd-out immediately. Like you, I initiated replacement of the S9 on 12/27/20. They said 2-4 weeks to ship a replacement. Well, I called yesterday (1/28/2021 > 4 weeks) and it's backordered for another 2-4 weeks. They offered me a S9 accessory kit for my troubles, but I'm also going to ask they extend the warranty as well now. This is nonsense!
      BTW - The Braava Jet M6 I received was also defective and had to be replaced. It couldn't recognize iRobot's reusable wet pads. The replacement Braava jet M6 I received seems to work as it should, but it's frustrating that I've wasted so much time.

      attemptd but no luck. contacted irobot for replacement. its a known issue by them.

      @@fondoo how can you fix it :/ i called them and i’m waiting for my replacement hope it get better .. i just got it 2 days ago and couldn’t even map my place cause he stopped every seconds :/ it’s so sad and disappointing

      @@imanocali2412 document and keep calling irobot for replacements. thats their answer. i have this youtube video to show this is unacceptable. my dump $200 vacuum cleaner from home depot does a better job than the s9+
