    73 grill, wrong hood, rs bumpers on a straight bumper car. Z28 rims on on a SS car should have 14 inch rally's .

    The RS "split bumper" option was available from '70 to '73. All '70 to '73 RS Camaros had split bumpers with a urethane nose that contained a different grill than standard Camaros had. The parking lights for '70 to '73 RS's were mounted above the split bumper and are round. The standard front end parking lights are below the bumper and are rectangle. No true RS ever had the parking lights below the bumper like most fakes are done. That is the cheap way and is completely wrong in every way.

    this is my understanding of "2 nd gen" Camaros... the RS option was available with the Z/28 option, not available with the SS option. the RS option included among other things the longer front end with relocated turn signals. back in the day people referred to this as a "split bumper front end". the SS option was not available with the Z/28 optioned Camaro, so there are no SS Z/28's or Z/28 SS's. the big block 396 was i think actually a 402 CI motor. and was available with the SS optioned Camaro thru 1973 with a 4 speed manual transmission, and i think GM made about 500 or 600 (total), of these SS's in '73, so they're uncommon. the lower LS motor code #(3), indicates that it's a hydraulic lifter motor, as opposed to mechanical lifters, not sure if there was a mechanical lifter version of the 396 available in '71...maybe. sometime in the late 1980's these "Camaro's" started showing up with the standard(non RS) front end with the full length bumper removed and the shorter RS option bumpers installed, the tip-off is the turn signals mounted in the lower valance panel. i think there's a shot in the video that shows the "notched" grille where the original bumper ran thru it. another good indication of a RS optioned Camaro is the "RS" call-out on the steering wheel center, even Z/28's had this when ordered with the RS option, at least the 1970(late), ones did, so i'm guessing the 71's did as well. so i'm thinking this is a correct 1971 SS 396 Camaro, with some later installed not so correct parts, not a big deal, pretty simple to swap back on the correct bumper. cool car, nice vid.

    SO much misinformation here. The car is NOT an RS. He lists it as such. It is not. It is a full-bumper car with the bumperettes installed. ANY Camaro 70-73 could be had with the RS package. Convenient the block was decked and the #'s gone. There is so much wrong here. The unique fan shroud is wrong. Car has a 350 shroud. ALL the under-hood factory 396 parts are missing including the rare air filter case. Car should have a 5500 Tach. Has Z/28 wheels, should be 14" 6-hole Rallye II's. Rear end ratio is wrong. ALL 396's had 3:42 only. No stripes allowed on 396 cars. Wrong hood, Missing the expensive rocker panels. Pretty car...for 18K or so in the current market.

    This is what is known as a split bumper. It's NOT an SS/RS. If this were an SS/RS, it would have the parking lights next to the headlights and not below the bumper. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice car but it's not an RS. A lot of people like the look of the open grill that the RS has with the split bumper and do this modification. He's not presenting it as an RS and that's good. But, he says it's not a clone.... and that's bad because it IS (to a certain extent) a clone. Still a nice car.

    Why does it have a 10 bolt rear diff? SS should have a 8.875" 12 bolt especially with the 396. If it truly has a 3.55 rear gear than it must be the 8.2" since the video clearly shows a 10 bolt rear and as far as I know no one makes a 3.55 rear gear for the 8.5"(3.73&3.42) rear diff, only the 8.2" 10 bolt and 8.875" 12 bolt rear have 3.55. Either the rear end(and other noticeable things) had been swapped or the ID tag had been swapped. Very suspicious.

      Yep ten bolt ad well as all the obvious stuff thats wrong like the split bumper and should have ralleys. I think alot if this gugs stuff are clones or wanna bees. Whivh is fine as long as u admit it. But ge dont. Look at mosy if his chevelles. 7 outta ten i bet are altered or fakes when he says they aint. I see way too many thungs that dont add up

      1970 was the only 2nd gen a 12 bolt could have been under factory and it was is rare to find one. Only 500 came with a 12 bolt in 1970. It was not an option in 1971.

    • @trekbsg
      @trekbsg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@huntermaxey The 12 bolt rear end wasn't an option alone per se, but was standard equipment when ordering high performance Camaros such as the SS & Z-28 up to the 1972 model year.

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      trekbsg not trying to argue with you but we have 3 RS/SS’s and all are Factory 10 bolts but I do know where 2 factory 12 bolts stamped with the 1970 date code and 70 was the last year it was offered in the Camaro. They used 10 bolts 71 and up. I will send you a link to the article out of the book when I get a chance this evening.

    • @trekbsg
      @trekbsg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@huntermaxey Not trying to argue with you too, just trying to let everyone know what was offered from the factory. If you have real 70-72 SS models that have 10 bolts, then either they have been swapped out with 10 bolts(which is common since 12 bolts were in high demand by hot rodders) or they aren't real SS's, 10 bolts were standard on all low performance Camaros. Just as TH350 transmissions were standard on low performance models & the TH400 was standard on high performance models. Trust me on this, these are documented facts.

    what you're talking about is the REAL RS front end, this is NOT... someone put the RS bumperette pieces on the REAL RS 2" urathane nose was the rest of the bumper. This car is NOT protected in an accident. a hit to the center can put the engine into the passenger compartment. it's stupid to do this to a car. cost about $800 to buy an RS conversion kit if you really want that look. and yes 74 thru 81 kept turn signals up by the headlights just like the 70 to 73 RS.

  • @ronniemac8667rm
    @ronniemac8667rm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not an original split bumper. ALL original split bumpers had the small round turn signal lights right next to the headlight. NOT the slit lights below the bumper piece. Still a nice car but it's not totally original

Go and see the car in person and inspect it yourself! If you don't know the car model specifically, get some help inspecting the car.
