been gardening for about 20 years, found your channel a few months ago and you have completely changed my view on gardening. keep it up love the videos...and tuck
My mother has the gift of growing anything...it is something you can be taught and I have learned from her. She's had her garden since I was a young child and we still eat from the same vegetables and fruits that we had when I was 4 years old. I'm 54 now and my mother is 86. I just wish I was blessed with good health but that wasn't my path. Keep posting and sharing! God bless...❤🙏❤
"I just wish I was blessed with good health but that wasn't my path." That grieved me to read. I'm very sorry to hear it. If I may briefly share some of my story? I was sickly as a kid, I used to be off school 2 - 3 months a year. Struggling with recurring colds, sore throat and bronchitis. Often close to getting pneumonia. Now I'm 65. Healthier than when I was 20! I became a Christian and learned how to receive healing from Jesus. I've experienced healing, sometimes instantly or within minutes, from colds, fever, bronchitis and extreme pain (kicked a door frame with my little toe!!! - 98% PAIN FREE within 3 minutes, the rest gone by the following morning. It took me a little longer to receive healing from gout, knee joint problems, loss of sense of balance, floaters in my eyes... But as Jesus healed me, I learned about divine health - even better than healing! Jesus not only took our sins away, he took our sicknesses away and healed us. But, it is by faith. I can assure you, faith is possible for anyone. Jesus often said, "Whosoever will" or just "Whosoever" is qualified. If we don't know how to get faith start reading the Gospels. Jesus' words causes faith to grow in us! I don't know whether you are a Christian or not, but we can have ALL that Jesus died and rose to get for us: forgiveness, enjoying a relationship with God, healing and health, deliverance from all manner of problems. On TH-cam you can punch in "Andrew Wommack + healing" and there are scores of people who share how they found faith in Jesus as well as getting healed! Be blessed, and you can be the blessing. 😃
I love the idea of implementing joy and childish excitement 🤗 Nature provides all the wonder and excitement to lift one’s spirit, calm, soothe, invigorate, balance. I’m enjoying being a part of your long distance community, learning and growing together ❤️ Thanks James & Tuck!
I love your videos! I haven’t understood why you pull out the wild violets. They are a wonderful food. Not only are the flowers good, but the greens are great in salads and smoothies. It’s a super good food for your lungs and heart.
James, not only do you educate and provide helpful tips, you frequently quote other gardeners and confidently share your philosophy with the audience. You're an amazing gardener, and, most importantly, you inspire everyone with your (and Tuck's) passion for gardening and love for nature. Watching you taste and enjoy the food you grow makes me want to experience that same emotion. Your food forest is my dream garden and I'll continue to fail and succeed until I grow something even close. Even though I live in a completely different climate than you in Phoenix, AZ, I feel like I can still (some day) accomplish what you've encouraged mother nature to do for you. Thanks to you and Tuck, anyone watching your videos will walk away with a new perspective on what's possible. Keep it up!
Exactly. This guy I listen to named max igan always talked about that, he said if everyone planted a food garden in there would be no poverty or problems in our lives.
What a blessing to have found your channel. You’re an inspiration to lots of people. It’s really awesome what you have created. Thank you so much for your videos. They’re very helpful in many ways. I really want to start a forest garden in my back yard. I hope i can do that someday. Tucker and Tiny are adorable! If I do this, I already have my helper. My Yorkie’s name is Pepper.
You know, James, it's got to be so rewarding for you to read the comments and see how many people you are inspiring to be healthy and self sufficient. You make me smile!
You're so lucky you live in the Gardening State with such good soil. I live in South Texas in a big city and growing here b/c of the temperature, amount of sun, and type of soil makes it quite difficult at best b/c you have to get soil. I am going to grow a fall garden this year and your videos have already helped me plan what I want to grow. Thank you.
Matthew Mohri I’m in central TX and this is the first year out of 4 summers that I still have plants alive, I’ve managed to be more successful by companion planting and being really aware of the soil moisture.
@@akmartinez419 Aye. I decided to move my peppers out of direct sunlight and they have started to blossom rather quickly. I am in the middle of building a raised garden as well. Glad your veggies/fruits are growing still, that is awesome.
Now this is why I subscribed.... observing, learning and listening to the plants . The connection , relationship that he fosters is what draws me back again and again.
I heard about forest gardens in the 90's, it's very inspiring and is a more natural approach that suits me perfectly, so thanks! I've been on the periphery for years and it's this lock down that's got me wanting to really utilise the garden I have, and you've given me some great advice and ideas! :)
I really enjoy watching your videos. Your use of simple language makes everything easy to understand. I really like how you show, work and talk at the same time. I passed your videos to my garden friends.
You're a dude James! I've not long found your channel and it's brilliant mate. I'm from the UK and have seriously caught the bug for gardening and growing veg/herbs over the last few years, and you're such an inspiration. I love your practical advice, little quotes/phrases & all round positive attitude/approach. I have a pretty unfulfilling and stressful job, so can't wait to get home to de-stress in my garden with beautiful nature. I'm constantly amazed at just putting in a bit of effort and commitment, the rewards from growing and being in nature are repaid ten fold. I love what said about really enjoying it, I get so much happiness from being immersed in it, really watching/studying the flora & fauna the rewards are endless. I am officially addicted and hungry to learn more....keep up the awesome work sir!!
OMG James, I cannot believe that you are holding down a 40-hour job and still maintaining such a beautiful garden and food forest! Thank you for the instruction, you have the heart of a teacher!
Thank you, I loved this video! Especially at the end when you mentioned you have a lot to do in life outside of caring for the food forest. It made me confident that I can fit in passions like this with the stuff that is necessary in life like work.
James, since young I dream on having a piece of land and planting my food forest. I love that concept, and I also love to collect different end exotic species of plants - specially plants that produce fruits. It is very inspiring to see someone like you, who made it and teach us about your experiences. Thank you!
You are awesome! Been following you for a few years now. Todays video reveals your spiritual wisdom and connection with the nature spirits and love for Creator! Thank you! blessings and continued success!
Wild violet blossoms are edible, they can be candied, made into jelly, and frozen into ice cubes for a pretty addition to drinks.. The early season leaves are a benificial fiber and are great in salads, soups, and sauteed as greens.

Thank you Rick! That means a lot to me. I spend time doing the research and practicing it so I can try to bring you all as much value as I can. Thanks for the encouraging words Rick 👍😁
Amazing garden. It's obvious you not only take care of each and every plant, but you also care about them as well, which I would think has transferred directly into the results you get. Great job and thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
I'm your big fan over sevral years. And I adopt it to my gardening. I made three framed gardens since last year. They are small but very useful. I will watch your video. Thank you.
Hi James, I just discovered you and I just wanted to say that I've learned a lot from you. I appreciate how short, informative, and entertaining your videos are. Your little dog is the highlight. I have one too and his name is Bently. It's my third year at gardening and it's done all on my San Francisco roof in containers. Thank you for your help.
Gosh... How I wish I had your knowledge at your age. I have become very attached to your videos, and to your enthusiasm and know how. At 80, I am learning all I can, much from your channel.
indeed a great food forest. Watching it was a feast for the eyes. Thanks for uploading the video. I am now waiting for all your tomatoes to start fruiting. I like to watch different variety of tomatoes fruiting.
My favorite lunch as a child included ...running to kitchen...grabbing salt shaker...and heading back out. There were delicious tomatoes to be had. Omg.
My food forest is under about 5 feet of snow, I completed it last fall. I can’t wait! Spring is in the air! You have been a great inspiration James and Tuck!
Just watching some of last years videos when I seen two Tucks😃...never knew you had 2 cuties! Great info and your soil looks so good! I just started putting down wood chips super excited! I know it takes time to build the soil up and glad I finally got started! Thanks for sharing the knowledge !👍🏼
Been watching your channel for a while now.... and one thing I admire is how lovely it is that you can step out your back door and be in your garden. I realize this is partly due to your small lot, but it's just a great setup. We have a leach field directly behind the house, so our garden, berry patches and our (under construction) orchard are all 100 yards back. I would love to have it right at the base of the back steps... but alas it's not meant to be. And I want to thank you for inspiration with the use of wood chips. I felled 30 or more trees to create a clearing for the orchard. We're going to buy a small chipper and shred all of the leaves, twigs, and small limbs to mulch the entirety of the new orchard. Previously I would have made burned my brush, made biochar, and inoculated it in my compost. But I think I'm a wood chip convert. Wish me luck
This is very true for vegetables. We have a very hilly yard, and it's actually the only sizeable flat spot in the lawn. And you gotta have at least one flat spot for the occasional game of bocce ;)
Dude! You rock James! I'm starting a permaculture food forest in mid Michigan, and you're a huge inspiration and educational help. I appreciate you. Much Love
I love your channel James and I love your philosophy and the quotes you share. You And Tuck are just the best! Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and experience!
"ordinary things extraordinarily" Sounds like Mother Teresa's quote about doing small things with great love. Love your videos and your food forest! Keep it up!
Hi! I just wanted to say how much I am appreciating your channel. I am pregnant and isolating due to covid-19 and it is winter where I am. Being inside and a lot less active has me craving gardening so badly. I am a veteran gardener and I have to say that from my perspective you are just full of practical and tried and true advice. You are really providing quality content in a format I am enjoying very much. I find that the culture around permaculture is sometimes really pretentious... but you come across as very genuine and relatable to the average person. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with all of us and I wish you and yours all the best! I will definitely be contributing to your channel by buying something from your shop. 💚
Man, James, I love your enthusiasm about your garden, I am now only growing in pots from an apartment but not even that can stop me, more food power to you
Amazing how well it's all grown in. Had been a year or so since I last watch your videos your food forest is just beautiful. And an insperation thank you
Thanks for this video. I'm putting in my food forest in my front yard after watching you for years. One of my big concerns was time. I assumed you did this for a living. When you said you work 40 hours a week I just realized that I can do this too. Keep posting. You're an inspiration.
I just seeded my back to eden garden with winter veg, carrots, radish, spring onion, beetroot and lettuce. I hope they all do well as we have had some rains so the ground has got nicely soaked and should be simple for those veg to thrive.
James I know I should pluck the flowers off the strawberries, but we are in year one and I can't do it. I lOVE organic homegrown strawberries and I haven't had a garden for 7 years. Great style and production on the video. Name dropping Prigioni to a lot of people so look forward to lots of Michiganders following you.
Hahah! I know what you mean my Joshua. I have a friend who is in the same predicament, he said he wants to leave them on cause the plants look healthy lol. Maybe you can leave a couple plants with the flowers to get a few berries and a couple you can pick off, maybe every other plant so they still spread quickly. You can also see if the ones you picked the flowers off so better. But in my opinion it’s all about investing. It’s easy for me to pick off the flowers though cause I already have more strawberries then I can eat 🤣 Awesome!! I appreciate that bro, that really helps the channel and helps to spread the food forest movement
always A JOY to watch you . I'm looking forward to see how much The puppy is helping you out there in your GARDEN. You can't do althat with out them ofcouse. thank you.
Hi James and Tuck, let me start with saying a big THANK YOU to you both. I “get something out of” every video I watch. But serious question, will you and tuck ever do a live Q&A??!! I have so many questions because I’m starting my garden and the main reason is because of everything you and Tuck have done. I’m inspired by you so , would ever consider going live??
Wild violets are completely edible! You might want to encourage them, and also look for wild edible volunteers in your garden. Wild plants are often extremely high in nutritive value. Thanks for you wonderful videos.
I agree with you. Almost 80% what's. Outside our house is edidle ! Just know what's. I'm from Vietnam we loved lots of vegetables. grass are pretty but we can't eats them.
Thankyou, what a great tip - I'm going to set up a letter box in my garden. Another tip: I bought cheap hand forks & leave 1 in each garden bed so that if I'm see a few weeds in passing (when I'm not gardening) I can remove them without getting dirty.😁
Your incredible and the way you share your mind and heart knowledge in Gerard’s to nature and gardening is so helpful an essential. Your inspiring and soothing to watch and learn from. Thank you for making your videos! Love!
Love your enthusiasm. I'm a Jersey girl transplanted to no CA 40 years ago and started a garden and orchard 30 years ago in an area referred to the pygmy forest. (stunted trees and shrubs caused by a complex ecological condition associated with underlying wave terraces and their unusual soils. The poor soil fertility and wetness of the soil restricts the growth of vegetation and induces a dwarf condition in many of the plants). Over the last 30 years, I have brought in soil from town, sandy topsoil, manure, saw dust, wood chips, compost you name it to improve the soil. Two questions I have for you, 1.Because the layer of growable soil, which I have made is at most 1 foot, except that I dug out 4'x4'x4' holes to originally plant my trees, my fruit tree roots tend to grow along the surface and seem to rob the nutrition and water out of the vegetable beds. I am amazed at how much variety and density of vegetables and trees you have growing , Do you have tree root problems for your vegies? I just received a large load of wood chips and see the value of mulching the entire area, which I am going to start mulching tomorrow after watching this video. 2.Also there are gophers continuing to burrow throughout my garden, basically over aerating my garden . I don't use poison or bombs etc, have any suggestions on how to get them to move out? Thanks I am learning a lot from you.
I am curious if you are employed in a botany-related field. You know so much about plants - from trees to vegetables to weeds - figure if your interest in life leans towards these things would you have employment related to this. I learn something, it seems, every time I watch one of your videos. Some things you do are applicable to my situation - some are not - but I still learn new things, which is great.
Thanks James. You've been such an inspiration and encouragement to us to grow wholesome natural food. I love how you weave your values, as well as your love and respect for nature and creation through your videos. Keep it up. As you inspire us, we can, in turn, pass on the passion for growing...simple, but not easy...consistency & persistency is what's required. Pete (Cape Town, South Africa)
Having fun this year!!!! I'm growing cherry Tomatoes with wood chips around them. 5 gallon buckets x8 . No problem with leafs. And man there growing. I went to a lumber yard. Just ask if there any old wood not use. Stake up Tomatoes 🍅 To my surprise, the man said sure. He even cut them for me. Anyone who don't want to spend money, just ask the lumber guy. Wish I could show a picture of my food forest containers gardening. Lol 😆 in closer. Thank u New Jersey from Chicago style.
Love your style and delivery, my ridgeback eats all the strawberry flowers so she does what I find hard to do, yesterday she discovered that cranberries of my trees are delicious, I’m in New Zealand so it’s the end of our summer...keep up the great work bro.
Hey James something to think about pick a couple tree that get hit hard by that bug. This fall plant some garlic cloves around the base of the tree 4 inches from tree and 4 inches apart all the way around plus when you do that pull the wood chips away from the bottom of tree outside the line where you put garlic maybe 5 inches from tree. By next spring the garlic will start growing before the bug hits the tree may keep them away.
Alternatively you could try to establish ramsons (allium ursinum) - a perennial type of garlic. It grows naturally on the forest floor in european beech forests - so it is suited for shaded locations and in contrast to garlic, it has very broad leaves and will make a dense cover - i can see that working very well underneath the fruit trees. It has a strong garlic smell and taste, which might deter to curculio. And its edible, so whats not to like?
We have been adding organics amends to the garden for 34 years to the point where the soil is 3 feet higher than when we started our garden, the soil is darker in color and I can just use a pitch fork to plant since the soil is so rich & healthy.
The food forest is so beautiful with all this new growth. Would be nice to see it with the camera still or slow panning on a tripod, like a nature documentary!
Love it when you say lets go. I wish I could go where I want to. Your Garden looks like Heaven. But right now I feel like crying. Scared losing love ones.🍎🍇🍋🍓❤💜💚

No reason you can't garden on the leach field, you just need to avoid plants with deep roots that will clog the pipes.
This is very true for vegetables. We have a very hilly yard, and it's actually the only sizeable flat spot in the lawn. And you gotta have at least one flat spot for the occasional game of bocce ;)
Oak Knob Farm I only wish I had as much room as he.
Oak Knob Farm could you plant flowers over the leach field? I assume there is a decent amount of soil over it.
Yes, Joy! Joy comes as a result of caring effort that brings results and joy!
Is so joyous to hear you, you're so positive. Thank you
Dude! You rock James! I'm starting a permaculture food forest in mid Michigan, and you're a huge inspiration and educational help. I appreciate you.
Much Love
Ooh ooh! "Rabbidoo" is having a ride in the wheelbarrow too. Thank for the tool box idea in the garden .
I love your channel James and I love your philosophy and the quotes you share. You And Tuck are just the best! Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and experience!
I think I enjoyed watching this video even more, the 2nd time. James is a dynamic video announcer.
This is the first time I noticed you have 2 dogs, double the cuteness.
Thank you for your channel! You have changed my whole approach to gardening/growing for my family and friends! Keep it up brother!
love it. Also like the variation - ordinary actions repeated over time produce extraordinary results.
I'm just getting into gardening and trying to find someone very knowledgeable. You've just become my favorite G-channel.
When the weather is rainy and cold here it's so nice to see these videos of you and Tuck. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Man, James, I love your enthusiasm about your garden, I am now only growing in pots from an apartment but not even that can stop me, more food power to you
what is curculio??
Damn I can't wait for my garden to be like yours. I love your work. Thanks for all the advice and knowledge you provide us.
I'm glad you finally got a stunt double for Tuck!! Bravo!!
I really admire you, you are a great man, you have a professional gardening and planting method
I just seeded my back to eden garden with winter veg, carrots, radish, spring onion, beetroot and lettuce. I hope they all do well as we have had some rains so the ground has got nicely soaked and should be simple for those veg to thrive.
“Let’s do those fundamentals, extraordinarily, and let’s do the best we can” ❤️✨
James = Adam Driver of the Land (with a ton of energy!)
Ur so exited all the time, I watch a vid every morning to get my day going. And to get my learn on ....freakin luv it
James I know I should pluck the flowers off the strawberries, but we are in year one and I can't do it.
It’s easy for me to pick off the flowers though cause I already have more strawberries then I can eat 🤣
Awesome!! I appreciate that bro, that really helps the channel and helps to spread the food forest movement
Joshua Zieba
Same! Also with the trees too
1 yr olds have a couple fruit....looking forward to eating lol
We picked off about half as a compromise... good suggestion on plucking all on some to get runners.
Word must be spreading. I'm from Michigan too :)
always A JOY to watch you .
You are an amazing person. You give hope to the future.
Just ate wild violet leaves in my dinner salad
Would love to see your currants. Just planted 6 for the first time.
Thankyou, what a great tip - I'm going to set up a letter box in my garden. Another tip: I bought cheap hand forks & leave 1 in each garden bed so that if I'm see a few weeds in passing (when I'm not gardening) I can remove them without getting dirty.😁
i feel so pumped UP...with INSPIRATION ...after watching your videos!!!!!! thank you!
i am a seasoned gardener, am still learning from your very informative videos. SUBSCRIBED!
Your incredible and the way you share your mind and heart knowledge in Gerard’s to nature and gardening is so helpful an essential. Your inspiring and soothing to watch and learn from. Thank you for making your videos! Love!
I love the garden mailbox. functional and garden quaint.
Thanks!
Thanks for the generous contribution Teofil Tifrea! That means a lot to me and the little boss 🐕😁❤️
I really enjoy watching food forest since im getting my organic garden ready with the help of my 2 year old boy.
Thanks
Your dog is so adorable I can’t handle it 😀 Thanks for all this info I was just about to start my garden with chips
I would really enjoy and appreciate a video regarding how you prepare for winter.
The mailbox idea is simply genius. 👍🏼
"From grass to fruit mass" i like the sound of that.
Lol nice! It was almost the title of the video 🤣
MR. pennington I was waiting for him to eat the weeds from the wood chips and then nod for the cameo and feed the rest to Tuck
I am working on it.
"Grass to fruit mass" 🤣 you rock James. I really enjoy your videos bro. Awesome system and nature
I love the message of observing and following nature. That;s an awesome food forest! First time I've seen it.
Thank you for your positive energy it is so encouraging and it is evident that you really enjoy your work!!
I'm about to greatly expand my gardening efforts. But I'm thinking I need a dog first.
Hi👍👍❤️
you need a tucker not just any dog LOL
Good thinking.
You will find your four legged soulmate waiting for you at your local shelter.
Someone tells me what breed is Tuck?
Great explanation for newbies, imagine suburban yards all over loaded with food forests :) bliss
I think this is very good. I would do this.
If the curculio has part of its life cycle in the ground, a predatory nematode might deal with it. Munch munch.
We have been adding organics amends to the garden for 34 years to the point where the soil is 3 feet higher than when we started our garden, the soil is darker in color and I can just use a pitch fork to plant since the soil is so rich & healthy.
You have a beautiful fruits and vegetables garden. I really enjoyed the way you explain in detail of every plants.
The food forest is so beautiful with all this new growth. Would be nice to see it with the camera still or slow panning on a tripod, like a nature documentary!
How relaxing watching and going through the food forest. You are such a blessing teaching us. Thanks so much!
Love it when you say lets go. I wish I could go where I want to. Your Garden looks like Heaven. But right now I feel like crying. Scared losing love ones.🍎🍇🍋🍓❤💜💚
