That was so lovely to see Kent sharing how he went about making the scarf for you ❣ It is totally ok to let go of memorable items, especially if they are no longer useful or used, displayed or going to be used a family heirloom... Otherwise we'd keep EVERY SINGLE ARTWORK from school or daycare or whatever that our children do and it would eventually disintegrate, get mouldy or moths in it and so on. That's not a loving way to take care of a memory. Also the person is not IN the item. Neither is their memory. I love to take a photograph of the item being used and that's as great as having the actual item so it can still be shared should I want to, but takes up less room, even more so if a digital photo. So I applaud your choice to move this scarf along.

I think you should still publish your sock pattern. For money! They are beautiful, well thought up and.... anyone is entitled to make a slipped stitch design. There are thousands of designs. Someone is bound to make something similar and you deserve credit for making this and coming up with all your amazing ideas.
OMG the Magic Knot Ball!!! You should use this one as the beginning of a magic knot ball made up of scraps from all of the projects you work on during your van life adventures. Then when you find the place you'll be landing afterwards, you can crochet up some sort of granny blanket out of it, and give it a border with a special yarn from your new LYS. It would be so cute and sentimental, and give you a way to process all the experiences you had along the way.
Kent & your parents are such a blessing! It takes around 21 days to create a new habit. Our brains become wired or rewired over time as the things in our lives change. Even something as simple as rearranging furniture can take about 3 weeks to get used to & decide if it's really better or not. After your little family gets traveling around and seeing the states, after a few weeks you'll feel a lot more settled in as you adjust the van to your own liking. Speaking of scraps and knotted yarn balls, my favorite way to use leftover sock yarn or fingering weight yarn is a vest pattern. You’ll find it in a little book by Red Heart called “MORE Than Socks”. I’ve made two from scraps with a new skein for the neck, arm, and bottom edges. I’ve gotten many compliments on them. Btw, it’s a jaygo motif in crochet.

To minimize your scraps... I think making more squares for your blanket would be fun. Or maybe one row of a border.. it is scrappy and fun and incorporates all the colors that are already in there.

I'm knitting the mini mock neck right now and I did exactly what you plan to do - after I joined the front and back in the round, I picked up the stitches on the neck and finished that before going back to working on the body in the round so that I can make sure the fit is what I want AND so that I can see how much yarn I have for the length. I highly recommend this method!

And you were also so sweet and politically correct because let’s face it, that thing is gawd-awful ugly and I thought it was like a macramé hanging at first, lol! Or maybe a failed yarn bomb. The problem I have is being unsure of how to tink it back when I need to, which, unfortunately, is more often than I'd like - LOL! Like yarn dyers or yarn brands sending yarn for free to designers or influencers with a large audience, asking them (or saying "you don't need to talk about it" but fully knowing they will eventually) to talk about the product and advertise for it, but not compensating the creator for their work. Basically getting a huge visibility on their product and even sometimes a design made with it, without paying anything more than 3 skeins for the hard work of that influencer neither to do the advertising, nor to get the audience they build up for years. This would be absolutely unthinkable in any other sphere than fiber arts, so why do you think it's so common here ? I even feel like people are adverse to having their fav fiber influencer getting paid to work with a yarn brand/dyer. To me this feels like saying "I like your content but only when you're doing it for free, please quit your job to make time for quality content but die of hunger while doing so, otherwise your opinion is biased and unvalid"

People who want a knitted version of the float tote could make a large bag then shrink it so it's thicker and more stable.

I joined Ravelry in 2005 and found it cumbersome. I really only use it to purchase patterns. It is still challenging to find project and group pages.
Looking forward to sock week, we will be traveling to a family reunion so not sure how much time I will have (can’t ignore the grands).
