Taking Indonesia's High Speed Train (350km/hr) to FOOD HEAVEN

  • Was going to skip the apartment tour this time, but couldn't resist with my whole apartment being covered in mirrors so I had to let you all check it out because I have seen nothing like this before.
I was expecting bad traffic in Jakarta, but surprisingly there wasn't so I arrive at the Halim station very early. I only explored the bottom floor and decided to grab some food before the trip since I had yet to eat breakfast.
    Halim station -
    maps.app.goo.gl/Ajr97HfVCNb4j...
I went with a Roti-O as I have seen these everywhere, but yet to try. Of course I grabbed the best coffee in Indonesia a "Point" Palm Sugar Latte and I also wanted to try a "yummy" rice meal.
The rice meal was actually pretty good and had more flavor than I expected. If I was hungry and needed something convenient, I would eat this again. However, the Roti-O was my favorite. It reminded me of a Pineapple bun from Hong Kong.
Finally time to board and I was in the first class which cost me 600k Rupiah. The service was nice as the worker was dressed very elegantly and the car itself was in tip-top shape. It was so clean and spacious with nice AC. It was amazing to go 350km/hour and the ride me so smooth.
I got off at Stasiun Kereta Cepat Tegalluar which I think was a mistake as it went way past Bandung. I quickly found out I still had an hour taxi ride ahead of me, after just 45 minutes on the bullet-train.
Once in Bandung I had to get some food.
    Mie Rica Kejaksaan-
    maps.app.goo.gl/vSLEk3FBtg9bR...
This place had so many reviews so I went to check out what it was all about. These were some of the best fresh noodles I have had in a long time. The young waitresses were very nice and spoke good English. I also got the fried prawn Bakso and the fried wontons. I would recommend it all, but the noodles were my favorite.
Then I finally got to check into my $22 airbnb, but I wasn't there for long as it was disgusting.
So I pivoted quickly and checked into:
    Aryaduta Bandung-
    maps.app.goo.gl/s5PcL7j9UxpTh...
It was a little more expensive than usual because I booked last second, but I am happy I got to stay here. It was clean and the staff really were so cheerful and fun to joke with!
After freashing up, it was off to the night market!
Sudirman Street Day and Night Market-
    maps.app.goo.gl/XQYDyUSGxeBwp...
The hotel staff said there is a new night market in Bandung, but this one still looked better in the pictures.
I had to stop for some pork sate since it had workers showing me their menus and loud music. It looked like it was going to be really good and like many people were going to be there, but for me it was just okay.
I then worked my way into the back and realized that is where the real food is.
I found a Swike stall which so many people were eating this night and since I have not had Frog in Indonesia yet, I had to give it a try. The soup version was interesting, but if I ate it again, it would definitely be the fried.
Finally for something sweet, I got in line at this popular "Pisang keju" stall which was the fried "banana" or what looked to be a plantain with cheese, chocolate and sweet and condensed milk. I really love eating this but Murtabak and Roti bakar are still my favorite.

I like the fact that you are aware of your pronunciation. It's refreshing, because many foreigners that choose to live in other countries do not care if they blaspheme the language. And, I think the care you take in trying to pronounce or write properly goes a long way with the locals and I think they appreciate it as well. Awesome video.

Most foreigners don't realize that it's better to get off at Padalarang station to go to downtown Bandung. I saw other videos of foreigners taking the Whoosh train to Bandung, and they all get off at Tegalluar station. There should be information when ordering tickets to choose Padalarang station as destination, instead of Tegalluar, if we want to go to downtown Bandung.

Fun fact about that rooster picture.. it was a pattern Ajinomoto used at their merchandise bowl provided with certain amount of purchase, long time ago. Mie ayam sellers buy ajinomoto in bulks so they got a lot of these bowls, and they used it to serve the noodle in their store. So mangkok ayam ( rooster patterned bowl ) became some sort of a classic, a vintage icon. Along with the Ajinomoto typing lol. And a lot of current trends then used the rooster pattern. It was quite a hype it's even used in wedding gifts. It was put in mugs, shirts, even helmets, that exact same rooster pattern as the one on the bowl you ate on. Then one day in 2017, a certain company suddenly registered copyright on that pattern. I don't quite remember if there was any dispute about that or not. Anyway, not anyone can produce anything with that certain pattern now. it's illegal, so people started to make different-yet -similar pattern of rooster 😄

Man, I love the way Mas Arie introduced Max to Indonesian food, but I’m glad he went to Bandung on his own, or else he wouldn’t have been able to try all the porky stuff 😁
6:28 the chair itself is not disgusting, the disgusting thing is how Indonesians don’t pick up after themselves, and I’m saying this as an Indonesian.
14:02 this is ꦩꦺꦒꦩꦼꦤ꧀ꦢꦸꦁ (Mega Mendung), a batik pattern form West Java influenced by Chinese nimbus cloud pattern, which is appropriate for this project.
17:19 Tegalluar is not even in Bandung (it’s in Bandung Regency, which is a separate township) 😁 Unless you are going anywhere nearby, there’s no reason to go to Tegalluar. Most passengers alight at Padalarang where they can take the free feeder train that will take them to the main railway station of Bandung.
23:14 the letter C is always read as “ch” in Indonesian, and no, _mi rica_ here is not the same thing as the kind of _rica_ spice from North Sulawesi. I’m really glad that Max was able to try this, because Mie Rica Kejaksaan is considered an institution in Bandung, although there are probably better pork noodles out there.
24:51 wow, I never realized this, but the fact that Max didn’t recognize the brand I guess means that they don’t use Ajinomoto there in Vietnam! 👍 I didn’t think there was any country in East and Southeast Asia that’s not familiar with this MSG supremacy 😅
43:05 this is the standard for _sate babi_ where it doesn’t come with any sauce, because it’s already sweet from the marination. Of course there are many types of pork satays around Indonesia, but this is the most common one.
49:24 that earthy flavor probably comes from fermented yellow soybean paste.

Oooh Max… I am really falling in love ❤ with your vlogs in Indonesia. Many thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻for your stomach endurance in handling super spicy food.👏🏻 As a new subscriber, I notice that your vlogs are simple (drone shot and complicated editing are not necessary needed) …. but the way you describe the food, people, and situation has always made your viewers watch your vlog till the end no matter how long the vlog is. Longer vlog is even better.

You can go to some of the best culinary destinations.
    1. Cibadak street (Chinese Chinatown where non-halal food is located) Nasi campur 99, Jakarta's typical sop kaki hendang (Stew beef soup), etc.
    2. Batagor Kingsley (a typical Bandung food made from fish and fried)
    3. Moms bakery (Best healthy breakfast sandwich in Bandung, better than Subway)
    3. Pandan wangi (my version of the best Sundanese food)
    4. Pak Ali Borme Bebek (legendary street duck in Bandung)
    5. Pak eko rib meatballs (beef meatball sauce using giant beef ribs)
    6. Ciater / Gracia hot springs, Lembang
