  • So after having a go in the XCELLENCE model, I jumped in to the 1.4 litre petrol FR model. As I an FR owner (2006 Ibiza FR), I was looking forward to seeing what the newer version of its bigger brother had to offer.

    Good review. And I totally agree about those electronic handbrakes. I wonder why manufacturers feel the need to put unnecessary things like these, stop-start systems, and starter buttons on cars.

      Thanks for watching! Yes, I'm not a fan, but it's not too bad when they work well; I've had some cars where the system is delayed, meaning that you sometimes get honked at the lights! The Ford Mondeo I've been driving this week has one, but thankfully it works really well, so no real complaint there. I drove a Golf GTI last week and that had one, I couldn't believe it!!!

      They are brilliant, you are part of the few who don’t like them. VW’s one is impeccable and safer, all our cars in my family have them now and you never have to touch it because it automatically disengages and activates once stopped.

    Is this the 1.4 TSI 125HP or the 1.4 TSI ACT with 150HP? There is an enormous difference in torque between those 2 engines, I'm surprised you were not impressed with this engine so I assume this was the 125HP version? I was very impressed during a test drive. Also I think the Xcellence seats & cabinet details are much nicer than the FR. The gloss black will scratch easily over time and the red stitches are bit too much, but might appeal to young buyers.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, thanks for watching! This was the 150PS unit and it's by no means bad, it's just not overly exciting. In hindsight, I think I should have tested the 1.8 litre. I too prefer the seats in the XCELLENCE, they're more supportive if you ask me. I personally like the black gloss, but I can see what you mean, plus it will be a fingerprint magnet... I also like the red stitching, must prefer it to the Cupra's white stitching.

      I've about to recive trh 2l 190 version so it's getting up there. What's holding them back is the new emission laws. They could easily push 240-50 out of the 2l tsi, but emissions would exponentially grow.

      Hello Lakhan, did you not test it before you bought it? 😱 I can't ever imagine buying a car before I had tested it in all honesty. The 1.4 Eco TSI is not a bad engine, but I was expecting a little more from it in all honesty. Despite this, I wouldn't say it's mediocre by any means, but I wouldn't call it fast either. is the seat leon fr equivalent to the golf gti? Just had a test drive in one, was pretty impressed, perhaps not as "sporty" as previous gen models but a good contender that balance cost with performance/kit

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I suppose it depends how you look at it. In regards to power, it's a bit lop-sided as the most powerful FR is able to offer 178bhp whereas the Golf GTI is able to offer 227bhp, which can be increased if you choose the Performance Pack. Thanks for watching T L.

    • @tl6425
      @tl6425 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ok i didn't realise sorry bout that. In general i dont like how most new cars have skimped on the build materials but then added alot of electrical equipment which lets face it is what makes the car expensive. Newer models are a bit dull particular in the vw range no character or creative design. Just my opinion.

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      T L actually this equipment is better for your pocket. The front assist makes insurance on this car for me a new driver as cheap as a £1000 used car, it’s the same for the golf as well

    • @nh1848
      @nh1848 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      T L The FR isn't a performance upgrade, merely a spec pack. Think of it like VW's R line or Peugeots GT line. Unless a new bumper or steering wheel ads 100Nm torque and 50 bhp.
      It's just some versions of the more powerful Leon are only available in the FR trim. If you want a GTI equivalent go for a Cupra.

    Forgive me if this is a stupid question.
    I currently have a Fiat Punto 1.2 Evo, it's my first car and I've had it for just over 2 years now. Anyway, I'm going to get rid of it and I've been searching for a replacement for around 3 days and this is the car and model that's caught my eye. My budget is sort of limited and in all honestly this looks like the perfect upgrade for me. Your thoughts please? And if you think I'll enjoy this more than the punto?😂 thanks. Subscribed

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Grant, thanks for watching (and subscribing). A Fiat Punto was actually my first car, although it was a Mk2 ELX, not a Mk3 Evo. I have driven an Abarth Punto Evo, though, so I still think I'm able to answer this question. The Leon will feel leaps and bounds ahead of your Evo, although I suppose it ought to as this is the much newer car.
      The Leon will feel better built, more refined, more grown up, and it will of course have more technology. It's a smart looking car and it's also a good car to drive. I very much doubt you'll regret ditching your Punto for this.
