- Follow along as I restore the vintage Simmons Broad Axe/Hewing Axe. I bought it at a yard sale for $10, which is a great deal! I removed the rust, sharpened it up, and put it on a new hewing axe handle.

Nicely done sir! New life for a old beauty! Now get hewing!
Very beautifully done. Remarkable.
Beautiful work on the handle! Mirror finish on the axe it’s the way to go. Well everyone thinks different . 🙂
Found my fist broad axe metal detecting gonna take some work hope to get it looking like that and give to land owner
Had one come into the sharpening shop a couple of days ago.
Looks like it was found, whilst metal detecting.
If this is what they plan to do with it, sending it to me for sharpening should have been the final step.
She’s a beauty. Now to see her in action!
Beautiful job!
Nice work
Nice to see that you didn't tape off the red/black distinction line. Just my Taste. A1.
It's COHOES, not Ohio. Cohoes is a town in upstate New York. That may be a NOS blade, the poll appears unblemished. Good find! You need to remove the pitting on the flat side to get the best edge. Now you need to learn how to use it. Thanks!
Awesome job!! What kind of wire wheel are you using?
Make sure when you are using cold bluing soultion that you soak it for 12 hours in oil to give it rust protection.
Superrr !
TheBest !
I sharpen my Broad Axe head with a Diamond File
First mistake@4:25...sharpening with the edge TOWARDS you.
As far as I can tell you never ground all of the pits out of the back side down near the edge. That means that every where the edge intersects a pit there is a nick. When in use, every nick in the blade will leave a ragged line on the wood. Not really a restoration, only a prettying up.
