- Actors have long tried to give audiences a taste of the realities of war and military service since the earliest days of the motion picture industry. But if called upon to portray a member of the Armed Forces on screen, many actors could draw from their own life experience. Some of history's biggest stars served their countries in times of war and peace. Some experienced combat, while others were stationed in friendly countries or at home. Betty White and Chuck Norris serving in the Military really surprised me especially Betty White. I had NO Idea she had EVER served this country! Even more reason I liked her!
A little more detail on Jimmy Steward would be nice. He rose from the enlisted ranks via getting his own private pilot's license to become a pilot and officer in the Army Air Corp (Later Army Air Force) rising to the rank of Colonel as a decorated bomber pilot and squadron commander in WWII. After the war he was a Strategic Air Command (USAF) Reserve officer and qualified command pilot on the B-36, B-47, and the venerable B-52 bomber finally retiring with the rank of Brigadier General (after retirement he was promoted to Major General by Congress).
……believe he was also a qualified Boeing 747 Pilot, as was Danny Kaye……………
Thanks to them all! 🙏🏼🇺🇸❤️
Kris Kristofferson,
Drew Carey,
plenty of others....
Kris Kristofferson actually flew a military helicopter onto Johnny Cash's property to get him to listen to his songs.

The emblem on Elvis' shoulder shows he was with the 2nd Battalion 33rd Armor (3rd AD) I was in the 3rd Battalion 33rd Army some 6 years after he was discharged. Company C of his Battalion was located on the same post as I was.
Thank you for reminding us that many actors/actresses were much more than just that. I definitely didn't know that several of these heroes served. I also know of several other actors that served aren't mentioned here. Thanks to all who served. ❤🇺🇸

Where the hell is Clark Gable, He was almost killed in battled during WWII
If Robin Quivers was a captain (especially having served only 3 years) she did not enlist but was commissioned as an officer.
Thank you to who served and their families, along with first responders...thank you. Those who talk about Mr Freeman's accent/voice. Like Oprah, Elvis, Robin Roberts....all Mississippi.
……Charlton Heston served in WWII. He was in the Aleutians’, where he served for two years’, as a B-25 bomber radio operator & aerial gunner. He attained the Rank of Staff Sergeant.
I didn’t know Johnny Cash served in the military. Now I know why he had a motive to write “The Ballad of Ira Hayes” and “Ragged Old Flag.”
You didn't mention actors like Lee Marvin, Captain Kangaroo (I don't remember his name), Mr. Rogers (Don't know his real name) but many other actors and celebrities served with distinction in our armed services.
Bob Keeshan played Captain Kangaroo.
No he didn't save Lee Marvin's life.
Fred Rogers never served.😮😅

🇺🇲 Charles Bronson was a gunner in a B-29 against Japan.
How does this not surprise me.
A VERY incomplete list. Why were so many left out?????
I think it's great that these celebrities have compassion and a desire to serve our great country!
Well, let's see. Good video but you forgot to mention Johnny Carson who served in the US Navy. You forgot to mention Ed McMahon who served, and retired from, the US Marine Corp (Reserves) as a Colonel. You forgot to mention Glenn Ford who first served in the US Marines then later transferred to the Navy Reserve and retired as a Captain (O-6). William Holden who served in the US Army Air Corp (later the US Air Force). Those are just a few that quickly come to mind. But hey, at least you mentioned Jimmy Stewart who, btw, retired from the US Air Force Reserve as a brigadier general. He is the only actor who served in the military and (so far) achieved general rank.
