I remember a little boy and his rabbit
Afraid to sleep alone at night
Now I know a young man who is taller than me
Who has already ventured out on his own
Who is comfortable beyond his comfort zone
Who is strong enough to be kind
Without making a show of his kindness
Who works with a smile
And remembers to laugh when times are hard
With humour as his shield and honesty as his sword
He charges onto life’s battlefields
And faces his fears head on
He fights, he manoeuvres, he conquers
He stands tall when the trumpets sound
And the storms withdraw to a distance
Those who know him sing his praise
For he has come into his own
For he is a man worth knowing
In the future he will fly his family’s flag high
Then as now we will say his name with pride
