i knew i felt something was odd when youtube reccomended me various videos with 10-300 views from channels ive never seen before rather then my standard stuff, I dont want this channel to perish, your one of my go to's for medieval/sword content
Thank you for the words of encouragement but it seems like the only way for me to justify the time it will take to keep making the content you like and want to see, is for people to donate for the content which will sustain and compensate for the time and money it will take to keep making it. It's the only way I can see to keep making the content you love in a sustainable way that will keep the business afloat. Best way is through subscribe star, the channel memberships or patreon. Thanks again for the support, you guys are the best.
@@shadiversity TH-camrs as a whole need to get together and literally leave the platform. All the biggest faces and money makers of youtube, if combined, would devastate youtubes profits and viewership, if they all up and left simultaneously. TH-cam relies on all of its users, and ALL of the users seem to think they serve youtube. Unfortunately, money of the large youtubers either have no self respect or backbone vs money, or they're too ignorant to even understand the conversation. Then they're is also the "conspiracy theory attackers", thinking that anything that sounds vaguely like a conspiracy theory should be attacked and the speakers should be defamed. It's honestly the only way I truly see youtube ACTUALLY becoming a good platform again. Honestly I hope you even see this comment, as my comments constantly get hidden and auto deleted.
It's not just sword content either. I've noticed many channels that I followed for years get buried for years later who never stopped making content. I've had a sneaking suspicion that TH-cam is diversifying their recommendations to smaller channels not out of charity, but because they don't have to share revenue to not-yet-partnered channels.
TH-cam is in the business of finding the next big thing. That means they need to give new TH-camrs a try to see if they'll find an audience. And I'm sure this "sword content" is probably not generating the watch time it used to. It's old hat, it's novelty is gone. It was especially telling when Skallagrim said "the same topic that got 100k views now gets 20k". Key word is "same". These TH-camrs need to exercise their creative muscles and make something new.
Funny that YT is trying to make me watch Vtumos...I mena VtumoredVtubers..... so many times I clicked DONT RECOMEND THIS CHANEL and yet they still recomend it to me -.-"""
Something that has helped me is to actively hit the “Don’t Recommend Channel” button on anything in my feed I am not interested in. Over time this has resulted in me having a home page that shows me my subscribed content and things I am interested in. Recently I made a concerted effort to deliberately watch things from every channel I am subscribed to. When I used to watch TV, I actively chose what I want to watch. I do the same thing with You Tube. Don’t be passively scrolling your feed letting the algorithm completely control your viewing.
It paid off eventually. But someone else posted a comment that they spent all their time in the subscription section only. That is also a great idea. I spend most of my time there too. But my home feed get’s interesting things from time to time so I check it out every once in a while.
Hmmm. Do you think using it makes a difference in content type? I only want to rule out low quality channels, and that damn Indian chess channel that puts match spoilers in the vid titles.
It's crazy how like 10 years ago they killed animation by prioritizing 10min+ vids instead of the short stuff they produced, and now they're killing long form content in favor of shorts
Exactly! TH-cam was never meant to be a viral trending machine but a platform for people to share their passion and dedication and get people with the same interests together.
@RedOnItEE thinking more than 50% of the country is delusional for liking a politician is itself a delusion, so good luck with that. You won't be missed.
I find it hilarious that YT recommends more of these kind of videos where YT gets shit on as if they saying "this is happening and f... You, you can't do anything about it."
As a content consumer (and not a creator) I've noticed a marked shift in the videos that pop up for me. I have to scroll way down a page to find things I want watch, or have to go out of my way to specifically check channels to which I'm subscribed in order to reach their content. On a completely different note, that is a VERY COOL jacket you're wearing! Please tell me who makes it, I'd love to have one. I'm in the states, but I'd hopefully be able to get a hold of one.
Genuine question, you do know there's a "my Subscriptions" bar that just shows you all of the people you're subscribed to and only their stuff right? Am I missing something?
@swordwrath5492 Thanks, yes, I use this. It's only that I HAVE to use this because the normal recommendation page used to be more finely tuned, it seems. Now I'm constantly clicking on the "I'm not interested" button, but the recommendations don't seem to be improving.
Serious question, I've seen a ton of people talk about not seeing subscribed channels, why not use the Subscriptions tab, it's literally only subscribed content
At end of the day, We The People have the power. IF we REFUSE to click or watch, or we simply dislike stupid content you tube pushes upon us, or we only watch, like and comment on videos from subscription page, then we'll see more content we want when we want; you tube be damned.
Do not dislike shit videos on youtube. The algorithm is not programmed to care if you like or dislike a video, it is programed to look for "engagement" of any kind. All a dislike does is tell the bot, "This video got people's attention" which causes them to be recommended MORE not less. Why do you think hate channels than only insult popular things exist on youtube?
Exactly! It took me a while to realize that my feed was a minefield of pollitically charged content… on purpose. One day i heard someone with very different views complain about his recommendations and realized it was all inverted! Hatewatching pays!
Yeah, as people above said, dislike button is the same as pressing like button for the algorithm. That's why many tubers say "Like if you liked or Dislike if you disliked" because they are equal. I only dislike videos which are creators I like but don't like their take on the subject or they did a bad job. I want them to see that dislike but I still want them to continue their production OR if it's something that Disney makes to boost that dislike ratio to 1:20 asap and for it to spread so people see how disliked it is.
I noticed recently too. Wondering why my YT feed was so boring, I went to my subscribed channels and realized that all the interesting video I wanted to watch were there.
You have no idea how hard I'm struggling not to say something that is going to hurt your soul. You subscribed to some channels and you weren't checking "Subscriptions" tab.
It's so strange to me that people use the home page for videos. I've always used subscribed channel I would say the number of times I've been on the home page can be counted on my fingers.
This is the first Shad vid that I didn't have to go and find myself in a long time. I have been a subsriber for some years now and there was a pierod of time where I (kind of ashamed to admit this) forgot that this channel existed for a while because I wasn't seeing anything from you. Now I will continue to make sure that I have my notifications on ALWAYS, so that I can continue to support and enjoy the entertaining and educational things you have always done.
Don't trust the notifications. I have always had them turned on and the last couple videos I have received NO notifications until this video now. The only sure way to check for new content is to do so manually. Notifications suck.
TH-cam is slowly turning me into a pirate of sorts just to avoid adds, watch anytime, anywhere, download videos, all for free. All of that used to be included on TH-cam for free. I got introduced to 90% of my hobbies, sources, and skills from TH-camrs including this amazing channel. Y'all are very accurate on a lot of the other problems.
To everyone out there: please please PLEASE use the subscriptions page to keep up with and support your favourite channels! The Home page doesn't even remotely show you what you *actually* want to see!
My TH-cam bookmark has taken me to my subscription page since the very start, and every time I scroll down to the video I last watched, then scroll back up from there and open a tab for each video I want to watch. If I see a recommended along the way, great. But this way I make sure to see all my subscriptions. I mean I subscribed in the first place because I want to see everything they post
@@odotawaissaku3755 there are plenty of suggestions under each video you watch. Just consider them as they are: suggestions. Not letting youtube decide.
YTs been going downhill for both creators and consumers. AI content is flooding the pool, shorts are taking away watch time from regular monetizeable videos and the ad policy is pushing people away from being willing to watch with ads on to support creators they like. Dead internet theory is in the works.
@@wombatillo I really don't get this. Why are companies aloud to get away with things that blatantly hurt in the long run but just being sane and prioritizing long term profits all but forbidden? I myself would rather make 1000 tomorrow then a hundred today. Yet fundamentally that choice is being made the other way by many large corporations.
@@spartanonxyI think its because these corporations are filled with people that dont care about the corporation/Company they only care about themselves, these people dont create they leech onto companies to get their bag and leave. this is why even with making Millions/Biliions when Roy and Walt was alive Disney wasnt a souless company, but after they died it became more and more corporate and now is filled with empty suits.
Having been watching the channel for the past however many years, probably around 2016-17, I sincerely hope Shadiversity is here to stay. As well as your other channels. Godspeed, Shad. GOD bless.
Man I hate it when TH-cam makes it tougher for me to find new content on topics that I’m interested in. Content on Swords and Swordsmanship being one of them.
It's the ads. I'm noticing the ads getting worse. I actually timed it, I'm getting an ad every 4.5 minutes, which makes long form content virtually unwatchable. I'm guessing that TH-cam is hurting for revenue, so they are deprioritizing anything that isn't "advertiser friendly."
That's a solid theory. We should have seen it coming, honestly. Google caters to their paying customers, and we aren't Google's customers--we are their product. 😢
I used to get ads on youtube that start moaning i got that add 2 times in a week full blast on my phone i was on the couch , alsow now ads have a lot of ai geberated slop
Agreed. I can't really do fnt or rogan etc at work or in the car anymore. I've had it show me the same ad I just skipped 10 seconds later. Even ads I just reported.
I was one of those people who questioned you when you made that video. I stand corrected. I also am seeing the erroneous suggestions in my feed. Many of them seem to be politically motivated.
Love your pfp! Read that in his voice. I have the same issue. Im getting bombarded with true crime and spooky reddit stories (that are made up) read by an AI.
I cant imagine watching something you put so much effort into start failing, at no real fault of your own. At the end of the day shadiversity has been such a fantastic place for me to hang out, nerd our, and learn. Regardless of what happens going forward I hope you know I'll be here to watch your content and learn from you. On a lighter note, I love that jacket, where did you get it? Wishing you the best!
this is what he said in reply to post three posts before you: "@shadiversity 4 hours ago My wife purchased it for me and I have no idea where, but thanks for liking it, it's my favourite."
@@techpriest6962 The thing is that these kinds of comments don't help that much. Even if YOU use alt platforms, most of people don't, people don't seem to get it that masses won't follow that easily a content creator to another platform, if it's not a fanatical simp stuff. The revenue just ISN'T there either, as everyone has YT in their media hardwares (TV, phone) and most people (normies) won't bother opening other tabs for content to search for it, even searching it from youtube is chore for most people so this kind of "accusation" is kinda moot. It just doesn't work like that. It could work in long run if TH-cam goes down, but normies being pulled with YT won't change their behaviour so easily.
Car content also seems to be deprioritized unless it is very average guy friendly stuff. But more wrench heavy content also is not recommended anymore.
People need to stop using TH-cam's front page, stop engaging in it. If you have a bookmark you can click to get to TH-cam, make that bookmark land on your Subscriptions page, and NOT the front page. It lets you look through videos all your subscriptions have made, AND you can check the left sidebar for a list of your subs, click on them, and then be taken to their page which will let you see a list of their videos directly. You CAN'T rely on TH-cam to show you these things on the front page, as is being proven. STOP relying on TH-cam to do it. Take the step to make sure you see new content created by people like Shad as it comes out. Make your Subscriptions page your landing for TH-cam.
It drives me nuts, “I don’t see their video on my home page” HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS PAGE!? It’s all I use and I never miss a video AND don’t see ANY unwanted content outside of what I’m sub’d to. Apparently this isnt practiced hardly at all as I doubt this would be an issue otherwise.
@@lordashemar4322 All i ever use is the subscription page until i watch everything for that day and multiple times now I've seen videos on the home page from people I'm subscribed to that they didn't show on the subscription page. My problem might be different because I'm subscribed to over 500 people so maybe the subscription page is getting overloaded so TH-cam removes the videos from people that i haven't watched in awhile. But either way I wish they would just show every video to me on the subscription page.
I always wondered why I never saw as many videos from those I subscribed to. After using that section I see where I'll be visiting more often. I guess use the home page to find new random interests, and the subscriptions page for those I truly am interested in. Too bad you can't rank subscribers by the amount of interest you have for their channel.
Sounds to me that the only real solution is to push for subscribers to check their subscription tab. Viewers have to now take an active stance in finding the videos to the people they have subscribed to when those videos come out
This is what I don’t understand, I always check my subscriber tab, ALWAYS, and use notification, I subscribed for a reason, so why wouldn’t I check it? The only reason I use the recommendation tab is if I’m looking for something new. :/
I don't know how you would find what you want, I only ever use my sub feed, every single day I scroll down fast and then scroll up slowly to see what I want
I honestly haven't noticed much difference in the home feed, I'm seeing crazy low numbers like y'all are talking about... But I also pay for TH-cam cause I absolutely hate commercials.... Idk if that makes a difference or not... But my feed seems pretty normal
The youtube shortcut on my device is linked to my subscription feed. So when I start youtube, it goes straight to the subs tab. After I'm done checking that out, I might check the home page. If I find something interesting, I subscribe. I started doing this years ago, because I was tired of endlessly scrolling the home page.
I don't trust youtube so I can promise that I always check your channel. You helped turn me from a sword enthusiast into someone who actually knows how to properly use a sword. I've even taught a couple friends some of what I've learned here. So, know that you'll always have us, your loyal fan base.
If you have subscribed to a channel, there is a Subscriptions feed that will show you all the content. The “home” feed for any social network is always crap. If I care enough to check on content, I go to the Subscriptions or “Most Recent” (depending on the platform) feed first.
The gun community went and created Pepperbox, which seems like a good idea, but it is rather limited, and I haven't observed a lot of people moving over. I hope that there is a mass exodus from Google to a more open and free platform. But that does mean someone needs to make that platform, (and no X is not going to be it). I think that the creators need a creator run platform, that is not control by a big corporation. But how are we supposed to get that. Not to mention the fact that google will still use its browser and search engine to suppress alternatives. Google is scum.
Veteran and Gun channels got deprioritized years ago in a bad way and in some cases got targeted directly for demonetization through constant policy updates. They saw the writing on the wall and decided to simply use TH-cam as an advertising platform rather than primary income, and use sponsors, merchandise, and even banded together to launch their own streaming service called Pepperbox where they can post uncensored versions of their videos and exclusive content that would just be outright banned on TH-cam. These are content creators such as Angry Cops, Kentucky Ballistics, Brandon Herrera, Garand Thumb, Demolition Ranch, etc. Swords like firearms are not wanted by the owners of TH-cam. And to be honest, it has nothing to do with the swords or firearms themselves, but the people who enjoy them is whom they don't like. We probably need to stop dancing around this fact, its not a conspiracy theory anymore.
And, unfortunately, a lot of that is political. That said, I wonder if the political winds are changing (given the latest US election, it seems to be)... And if, in a year or 2, TH-cam might get the message that they need to change.
I only watch youtube videos from my subscription page and almost never from the home page. I have always been baffled how so many people don't do the same.
I want to watch content i subscribed to but i also want to discover different things. In the past those new things were at the bottom when i scrolled past topics i watch most of the videos about but lately i just get some random crap at the top of the page and even refreshing the page is not getting rid of it.
Please keep fighting, Shad. This channel is the reason my love for the medieval period is as developed as it is. Keep fighting, Shad! Btw, what platform do you suggest I support you on the most (PlayeUr, Subscribe Star, Patreon, etc)?
Shad, I love your and Tyranths videos; yes, your videos have changed slightly, but not negatively. The videos have diversified a little, which should broaden the interest base, not diminish it. I hope that you do pull through and that current political events have a freeing effect and saves your channel. I will continue to tell people about your channels; keep the faith, brother. God will provide a path for you to be able to support your family, and I hope it's on TH-cam.
“You can do it!” - my Youngest to you and your channel. God bless and guide you and your channel and family. Peace and joy to you amidst all this frustration.
No. The *.../feed/subscriptions* page still exists. It's just that, people don't know Jack's Sheet navigating such "oh-so-complex" UIs. People instead stick to the *_"common denominator"_** that is **_the home page of the website._* If people won't wise up, ever, TH-cam & similar platforms have very little to remedy this losing battle of quality, anyway.
A long time ago youtube decided to become the replacement for broadcast TV on the internet. They still prioritize a lot of mainstream media channels, as if people who like that don't just watch it on their TV or other streaming service. We come to youtube *because* it's not broadcast TV. We don't want it to be broadcast TV. If you turn it into broadcast TV, we will all go to wherever else is not trying to be that.
I like sword content, and castles, and history stuff. Shadiversity ticks all those boxes while also giving me a giggle with reviews and reactions. It’s my go-to and I will continue to support. Good luck to you, and hope to see the channel continue.
pump out 4 videos / day from GPT scripts + ai voice => profit. Bots watch bot-made content for the ads, so bots pump out more content to be watched. Human watch-time is a byproduct.
@yomauser YOU only see 1-2 of those, because your watched history is NOT full of those videos. Open a tab, turn-on autoplay and watch 4 of those one after another. You won't escape bot-hell after that, unless you delete your YT history, cookies and cache. Also, read the comment i've made above.
First they came for the guntubers, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a guntuber. Then they came for the swordtubers, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a swordtuber. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.
The algorithm is not really the problem here. When i spend more viewtime viewing content thats not something i follow the algorithm will present me with more of that categorie of videos instead of the ones im following. And most people actually barely watch Videos of the content creators they are following. Sometimes people follow over 200 channels or more. How could they watch all that stuff. Take in that a lot of them spend more time per week watching content from new creators than the ones they are following (Example if i have 130 subscribtions to channels and i watch 2 20 min videos of one new channel in a week and 4 15 minute videos from 4 diffrent channels that i have a sucscribtion to than youtube will reccomend more of the channle that i watched and dont have a subcribtion to and reccomend less of all the channles i didnt watch at all). So yes the algorithm is acting based on that. And since most sword interested people are probably already following this channel and only a small portion of it is actually watching it than the algorithm stops reccomending it to people that are not following. This has happend to many very specific topic channels on TH-cam since the Platform is around. As soon as the Tpoic had its peak the views are falling off. Because there is overall more content for this topic that is watched by people. Even if they are still interested.
@@torquetheprisoner and yet the guests of Epstein island are still walking free, but epstein is dead. It's all about who you offend not what your offense is.

I have been a consistent viewer for around 7 years now and I'm very sad to see that TH-cam is making things so difficult for you. I wish the best for you and your family and whatever you need to do I'll support it (including financially to the best of my ability)
It's still amazing to me how a platform is allowed to host and monetize content creators (i.e., the people who make TH-cam money) without ever letting those creators know how the platform works, and can change it all unilaterally without telling the creators. It's like employing someone without telling the employee about what's expected of them and never informing them of when expectations change. Absolutely insane business practice.
That's how TH-cam unfortunately function behind the screens. They don't tell anyone about how it works or what's going to change because they don't want to be held accountable and they prefer setting the rules based on their standards so that no matter what anyone says, it doesn't matter to the leaderboard because the suites only care about how much money TH-cam is making. It's not about people's tastes in general. It's about what's trending, because trending makes more money and more money means more profit, which means TH-cam has better chances of sustaining itself in the future. I don't like it either. It means channels I love and want to see grow ever more will have a much harder time to grow consistently now, while channels I don't care about will get that profit instead. It's all about money, not what people thinks(other than what they think about certain trends - and those in favor of current trends usually win when it's about money). That is why money issues can be so problematic for niche content, because if they don't make the cut, they will be left out because they're just not profitable enough. They pay, but we decide what we shall upload(with some exceptions). But how do we do that if not enough of us say no to their trend changes in the form of disagreeable algorithms with our wallets? It is obvious that they care more about people like MrBeast and similar because of how much views he and those other TH-camrs get so that the TH-cam high ups get more money. I guess we need a sword platform now to get around this corporate bullcrap. TH-cam just doesn't make the cut anymore. TH-cam exist to serve us, the people, with entertainment. We don't exist to provide them with their positions. They exist, as in the way they work, what they're providing, to provide us with the entertainment we want. They shall be paid for running the servers. But they shall not set trends on how to make more money than they are because we know they are earning billions already. That SHOULD be enough. Any expenses they're spending beyond what concerns TH-cam and its quality is their problem(say if they want to buy a new yacht or a new sports car or a new multimillion dollar house or multi billion dollar house or whatever). It should not be made into ours. I don't believe that TH-cam is losing so much money that they are going to die off in the next 30 or even 50 years, probably not even in the next 100 years. The only point for them to make more money than they currently are is if they want to buy things on the side, because they're rich bois, and they want the rich boi stuff. Because anymore money will not help TH-cam the way it works right now because it won't result in anything so drastically improved that more income will help. I haven't seen anything like that so I think it is more probable that these people at the top of TH-cam, Google, can continue to buy expensive stuff to live a life of luxury, not caring at all about the consumers and their actual content creators, unless they earn them money. But that's obviously so fickle because of this algorithm, because you can get replaced just like that and suddenly you're not relevant to the money suit lords anymore. As long as they want to live the rich life, they will keep pushing the expenses and squeeze all the money they can out of TH-cam by making these changes. It's all about wanting more out of their business at the expense of those they deem to be irrelevant and not important to their growth anymore. TH-camrs that are popular at any one time are easily expendable and replaceable eventually, and they will turn to what's popular in the future and throw those who are very popular right now into the gutter, because that's all these people care about - what they can get out of you. It's a self destructive self consuming service that exist because of and for the money. The means and the end goal is more money. The only end goal is more money, more money, more money, more money, and no thought to quality if it means more money. Sure, the corporate suit guys are happy, but many others who actually consume TH-cam and those who actually provide content for their fans are not. It's not about genuinely caring about the trends. It is about if it results in more views, and that it gives the most money. If swords was what was the most popular trend right now, of course it would be recommended right now, but since it isn't, that is why we see this current algorithm change. TH-cam didn't need to get sold to corporates and changed from what it was. But it was sold and changed to something very different from what it was. It didn't need to become this. But it did become what it currently is. So yeah, this form of capitalism, looking at mathematics to determine success, it sucks, because it doesn't care about opinions. It only cares about results in the form of money, about the numbers essentially. That is why money talks because in the end it only comes down to profit when it concerns the higher ups, sadly. I for one would want my beloved TH-cam creators to be able to continue sustaining their passion and way of living. But because of this algorithm at the orders of the higher ups, they can't, and that is so sad.
TH-cam routinely pushes me content from channels that just repackage end-to-end compilations of other channels. Or it pushes videos from months or years ago. I appreciate your content and hope you can continue.
27:20 This is a good idea. Post a short, and link the main video. It will help a bit, but now there's the viewer's choice to click on the video or not (since the video will always be tied to the short, or vice versa, whichever sounds better to you)
It really does work, it's an excellent tool to get more attention, I know this because it's worked on me and I could behold the viewership on a linked video too😂
As a user, TH-cam seems to have forgotten what it’s supposed to be. Most of the recommendations are crap. I wish there was a good alternative! I’ve tried others but either the cost is too high, or the number of creators is too low. You should be able to put out what YOU want. Not what an algorithm, or corporate assholes want.
Seeing your intro, which I have seen for the past 7 years, flash across the screen for the first time without your theme song was absolutely soul destroying. Much love from an imagination you have helped to shape ❤ thank you Shad.
I remember commenting on the early 2024 video you made. The biggest thing I’ve noticed is my home page feed has recently shifted drastically towards “safe” and ad friendly videos. Very few videos from my subscribers or videos I would deem worth a click, I struggle to find anything to listen to or watch last few weeks especially
One tip I can give you is to reset the algorythm by deleting your video history. Our tastes change over time so this will give youtube the opportunity to show you new stuff. Its more effective than trying to fight it by selecting "not interested" to anything you dont like (anymore).
@@orga7777 Well, there is of course the suggestion bar to the right. But overall, it's the same way I discover new music despite not listening to the radio or TV. @Wolltazar they can't do that in their country otherwise that'd be awesome to see cause I love Scott from KY Ballistics but he doesn't know enough on the subject to make accurate videos
It blows my mind that everyone only jumps on their home page to watch youtube. Im always on my subscription page. I see everyone i subcribe to. Fuck the algorithm
Exactly. Subscribe does exactly what I want it to, give me a list of people I like to watch. I don't want to see more of the same person on the side. I want to find more people, especially with music. I can't tell you all the new stuff I find that I like going down the music rabbit holes, particularly with j-rock.
A bit of research revealed that TH-cam has altered the algorith to change the balance of existing and new channel contennt with the results you are describing. With the algorithm promoting diverse content, smaller creators have more opportunities to gain exposure. However, established channels face stiffer competition as their dominance in recommendations decreases and I need to make better use of the Subscriptions tab on the site! Google thinks this benefits quality over frequency and predictable timetables. They will be recommending channels that are "well-structured" and result in high engagement. This suggests there could be a viable strategy for you.
Your videos on TH-cam's Algorithm are the only videos that get recommended to me. They are almost the only thing reminding me of your content. I don't watch all of your videos but I especially love the castle videos, videos about historical facts and the Medieval Misconceptions series. At some point I did think the focus of your content was too much on swords and I am glad that it is more balanced now. Sword content can be fun every now and then but what I love about your channel is the variety of content you can offer.
The only thing that makes me kind of glad is that now Shad's detractors can't say the drop in his views has to do with people disliking his political takes or that he was always a bad TH-camr. Our boy is getting cheated out, and he ain't the only one.
I don't think it's necessarily one of the other, two things can be true. I know and have spoken to people who don't watch him anymore, and I have considered not watching him anymore as well (but instead just don't watch Knight's Watch). He *has* undeniably alienated parts of his audience, which have stopped watching. He is *also* being killed by the algo, like many other creators right now
@@thegoogliarchIf someone having basic political views you disagree with makes you not want to watch them I’m sorry but you’re a moron and likely an extremely toxic person.
I watch every video you make and the fact that you offer paid content for only $1 is so generous. Most creators have a minimum pay wall of $5. I hope people who like the content will support.
Ideology me and Shad don't agree, but I would never attack his none political content. I love his sword stuff, and that is why I am a subscriber. The idea that this channel is being killed simply because the algorithm is against them.
This explains a lot. I noticed this a while ago but could not explain it. I've been getting frustrated with my TH-cam home screen as it has been presenting me with a lot of channels I've never subscribed too.
TH-cam is so big that it's impossible to protest or boycott into changing. The things we'd need to do as content creators and audiences is to jump ship build a new platform and repost our videos in a way where TH-cam would loose almost all revenue until it decides to change.
Star wars channels doing lore dives are having the same issue. He thought it was brand damage... but seeeing this and all the other channels i love dying... i suspect that you are correct. TH-cam is actively killing its creators. They seem to prioritize videos that cover drama, viral subjects, and then a load of random stuff... completely ignoring subscriber requests.
I don't use anything but my subscriptions page and random crap in the side menu sometimes. TH-cam will kill itself if it keeps going. When the other platforms catch up TH-cam will wish they actually cared about their content providers as they float away.
@@Ratkill9000 Things take time. CNN and others are now paying the price for their bad decisions in varying ways. You start to take people's incomes away they will go elsewhere out of necessity if not personal beliefs and others have proved you can. TH-cam didn't work the best at the start either. Now all their issues seem to be self induced.
I've been subscribed to you for years now, and in the past year I've only seen like 3 of your videos pop up in my recommendations, i have to actively look up you channel to see your new stuff.
My algorithm is only people I subscribe to. I have a hard time seeing other content related to the content I watch because the algorithm keeps recommending me videos I’ve either already have seen or videos I had zero interest in but will not get off my screen no matter how many times I click not interested and don’t recommend this channel. Those two functions do not work at all. I used to see skaligrim videos on my feed but I haven’t been recommended his channel in close to 2 years.
Same problem, for anything new I search on Rumble and Truth for news, will also mention Pepperbox that is paid but is a lot of people I follow are also founders.
Subscribtions tab for the win, no problems anymore: No older videos to recommend as rewatch, no extra unnecessary vids unless some creator makes something you don't fancy to watch, hide (from feed) function works flawlessly on subscriptions page.
I don't always use that tab unless I've cleared out my notifications on my phone and then I need to look for it. But even the search function is getting bad. You might get a few relevant videos with it, then just getting garbage that's unrelated to the topic you are searching for.
I noticed it as well. Either I get 10+ year old videos recommended which I already watched or small videos with no views and from a channel with no subscribers on some random topic. Neither is even close to my interests. I hope we will see an alternative video platform emerge. I want to stop using this site but this is where all of the content is.
So I am not experiencing this on one of my computers but I do experience it on my phone. I think it actually has to do with cookies, location, and privacy settings of the user. A lot of newer browsers block a lot of cookies and then the algorithm looks at your IP address and bases recommendations on location and what other people around you like. If you are nerdy or like something a little different than your area then you will be "getting weird recommendations". For example my phone has a phone number not from the area I live in and I get recommendations on it that are similar to what people in that area likes if I am in a private mode so to speak. In other words could issue be related to how newer web browsers and even phones have such privacy settings the recommendations are no longer based on said individual but instead based on general location?
In terms of politics I am pretty far from Shad's views, but I still enjoy the sword content. Sadly TH-cam is only recommending me videos such as this one instead of actual content, so unless I go out of my way to actively find the videos, I will miss 99% of them.
Data don't lie, I used to think that the the problem is with the change of focus in containt but your experiment in current videos clearly show that it is not the case, I really enjoy the recent old style content, but the metrics(views, engagement, etc) clearly shows that it is really the problem from the recommendation side. Hope that you can eventruallty find a sulotion.
Is it just topics in general that are of interest to conservative males? Swords, knives, guns, automobiles, 4x4s, motorcycles, etc? Maybe YT is just trying to punish us?
Trump needs to address the Elephant in the Room... Google/TH-cam. The fact I never hear about it getting any flack when Amazon and Facebook actually have felt the impact is scary
Ez, fix if publishers do censorship due to demands from ad-peddlers they lose publisher status, which they need if they don't want to get copyrighted into oblivion.
I'm waiting to be paid my backpay and my cut that is left after all my financial responsibilities. Then I plan on upgrading my channel subscription level to donating $3.00 USD a month for my favorite channels including this channel. That's what I'd strongly recommend to do at this point.
@@shadiversityMaybe those videos don't do well anymore because you turned away your large base of viewers who used to come here for that content? Almost all of your most popular videos are related to history and architecture. Maybe the only people who stuck around are the ones interested in weird sword videos because everyone else has moved on.
i know it's not an ideal solution, and that it would definitely come with its own problems and challenges, but i still need to ask. Have you considered putting shadiversity content on Nebula? I know the audience size is a fraction of what youtube offers, but given the changes to the algorithm, it seems like it may be getting to the point where another platform may actually reach a larger number of people than what you get on youtube, while having better revenue too. I don't know exactly what the contracts say, but i'm pretty sure you can put your videos on both platforms, which should allow you to test the waters with Nebula to see if it's worth doing in the long run.
It's very unfortunate and infuriating that TH-cam is shelving pretty much any and all sword/firearm content. I've watched you since Middle school and have received so much knowledge and entertainment from your videos! I pray things can get reversed and we can upheaval another golden age of sword vids😭 ⚔
Here's a tip for them its not gonna work if anything it pushes people to get more in control. This never works through out history. Rome comes to mind rome always eventually cuts its own self down its universal law you cant change our core spirit so let them try.
This is interesting. I used to get notifications from Metatrons main channels but it stopped a few months ago, and I was only getting notifications from Metatron-academy. It is a shame because my passion for Sword and these channels has only grown over the last decade. With many thanks to this and other channels. It just came to mine, I've seen more notifications from Knightswatch.
13:25 - I've seen this on other channels, as well. There will be a group of people clamoring for unpopular content. They even try to convince the creator it'll help grow the channel, when in fact it would do the opposite. I'm sure there's a psychological term for that behavior, but I call it "toxic viewership."
This makes sense Shad. I have been recommended videos that I dont want to watch and I wondered why. I would be so sad to see your content disappear. I want you to know that I love all your content. I find them so entertaining, funny and knowledgeable. Please keep up the good work and I will always support you. Also I haven't seen a drop in the quality of your content. I learn eo much from your videos
It would be interesting to see if TH-cam is able to make more or less money by pushing the "trending" videos/topics and "silencing" videos/topics that are not trending. Also, would it be too much to ask to get the details on how the algorithm decides to push videos? I imagine it is not fun for content creators to use trial and error to figure out what works and what does not.
I have noticed this over this past year too, I have had to actively search for the content I want to watch instead of it being presented to me. I love watching youtubers like Shadiversity, scrapman, Andrewmangaming, and others. For the past 10 months I have to go to youtube and actually search for their channels to find new videos, its a little disheartening so much so that most of the time I don't even want to get on youtube that much anymore.
Your new strategy sounds good Shad. I am not a member though so I will miss that content. Please make community posts each time to advertise your videos so we all know what we are missing.
Semi-recent SubscribeStar supporter and many year TH-cam subscriber here. I was hooked on your content in around 2019 because it was informative and passionate about things I shared an interest in and could now learn more about via a medium that is both entertaining and matched my energy. I haven't minded the shift to more performative, high "production value" content, and to be frank hardly watch the SubscribeStar exclusive content, and have just been happy to try to help support you and your endeavors for whatever I do end up consuming and also all the past value I've gotten from them. Shadow of the Conqueror is my favorite book, I own the graphic novel and an alternative cover edition of the book from that same campaign, and am a regular viewer of the channel; the small compensation I give to try to endorse the continuation of my enjoyment of those things is worthwhile. That being said, I would not mind that money going towards some more of what originally got me on board. Regarding why views are tanking, the algorithm, etc... First off, I'm sure some, even a moderate amount, of people have stopped watching due to some of your personal views. I briefly considered it myself from some of the things I saw and read, before looking into it more myself and realizing that, of course, things were misconstrued and exaggerated. What pacified me was when you addressed it and, in particular, said something to the effect of, "Everyone is welcome on Shadiversity." I believe we disagree on many things at a personal and ideological level but uniting all people regardless of what you think of them or differences in how you think over a shared interest without synthetic barriers and discrimination over shared passions is never bad. I don't think, and it doesn't sound like you do either, that there's necessarily any targeted efforts to kill your channel or others, but technical changes on the backend that are resulting in this effect. I'm glad we don't need to get hung up on that. I do think that the problem runs deeper than "TH-cam isn't showing subscribers content." I think there is a fundamental issue with the way most people consume TH-cam and how it relates to repeat views from subscribers or previous viewers. I think the average TH-cam viewer is doing one of two things: hardly subscribing to anything and following what's trending and what their algorithm feeds them, or subscribing to a billion channels, almost never rewatching any of them because there are too many saturating their feed. Many of your subscribers, I suspect, fall in this latter category, and many of your high-view videos probably get people from the former. When you're subscribed to 200+ channels, the odds of any one landing on your home page are very poor, and when you subscribe to none and watch whatever is served to you (TikTok syndrome, baby) it's hard to get recommended anything in particular you've viewed previously. The reality is, many hobbyists in this community don't interact with TH-cam the same way a typical TH-cam viewer might, and naturally TH-cam is *going* to serve the typical TH-cam viewer. I would even argue that they should. I don't really know what to say about where this leaves you or any other channel that hasn't already established a foothold within and without TH-cam. If I won $100,000,000, I'd just give you half of it specifically granted to the channel to finish the Shadlands and build your castle and make the coolest content I'd ever watch. Unfortunately, all I can do is continue to immediately go to my Subscribed every day after I get home, queue up every video that interests me since I last caught up, and watch, and in your case, chip in, in hopes it works out and I can keep watching.
I ran into that on FB one day. I did a count. I had to scroll past something like 13, 14 'ads' and 'random content', before I saw 1 thing from my friends and family that I WANT to see.
Instagram has also become a complete joke. You literally have to select account you're following, as by default one is show a "for you" selection by the algoritm, some pertinent, some absolutely pointless and annoying.
Ok genuine question, do people just not use the "my subscriptions" bar within youtube to see all the content the people they're subscribed to post? Like if you want to see content from the people you've subscribed to, you go there and watch their stuff. Am I missing something? Like I've noticed every upload from everyone I'm subscribed to, I might not watch every video cause I'm not interested but I at least see them
sadly yes. i almost never click the my subs button. i should but i just never had to do it in the past 12 years of watching YT so it never became a habit for me
On phones you can press and hold the TH-cam app icon and it will breakout into additional icons subscription, shorts and search. Drag and drop one or all them on to your home screen and use them to launch the app directly into each tab. I only launch YT now using the sub icon so I open the app directly to my sub feed.

There is one other thing that has been annoying - YT ignores "do not recommend this channel" option, if you pick it. I have been trying to get rid of AI-generate channels from my feed, but that feature is completely ignored.
SAME HERE and GOOGLE owns both the AI cloned stolen vid farms and YT. (Kyle Hill has even won Copyright cases against both YT and the parent Google with his trip to Ukraine to cover the state of Chernobyl)
I've just recently started to attend university, and I've been trying very hard to watch all of your videos because I want to contribute to the survival of this channel, but I find that I often just don't have the time... Every now and then I sit down of a few hours and watch a bunch of recent videos. I genuinely love your content, but I've gotten so much busier than I've been before.
@knightingale9833 yeah, and it is ALL the same format. Some person sniping video from another (original) person, and putting their spin commentary on it which almost always amounts to how crazy these Sov Cit people are.
Why is this even an issue? Are people so stupid that they only watch recommended videos, and don't look at their Subscriptions page for new content from the channels that they are subscribed to?
@@marcogenovesi8570 TH-cam removes it half the time and even unsubs me often requiring manual searches. YT has canceled Glenn Beck almost monthly on me for an example. Same with Joe Pags but I get him on Rumble now.

I don't bother with YT recommendations. My go to page is my subscription page. So I ALWAYS get to see the new videos of my subbed creators.

@@Cara.314 It is. Crony Capitalism is not however.
That’s possible but it could be short sighted if it results in a poorer viewer experience.

Don’t be passively scrolling your feed letting the algorithm completely control your viewing.
i am endlessly doing that but i swear they dont get it.
I use that function so much when I see..... sensationalist titles or videos I don't like.
It paid off eventually. But someone else posted a comment that they spent all their time in the subscription section only. That is also a great idea. I spend most of my time there too. But my home feed get’s interesting things from time to time so I check it out every once in a while.
I should do that more often. I normally reserve that function for stuff I hate.

*Never put all your eggs in one basket.*

PepperboxTV is a thing

Love your videos Shad! And I’m glad you know how to pivot when the winds change. I think I’ll just have to become a supporter!
I do that but TH-cam automatically deletes the video so that you carn't watch it
It drives me nuts, “I don’t see their video on my home page” HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS PAGE!?
Or just use RSS feed like a sane person.
Does not do squat to sub
I honestly haven't noticed much difference in the home feed, I'm seeing crazy low numbers like y'all are talking about... But I also pay for TH-cam cause I absolutely hate commercials.... Idk if that makes a difference or not... But my feed seems pretty normal
The youtube shortcut on my device is linked to my subscription feed. So when I start youtube, it goes straight to the subs tab. After I'm done checking that out, I might check the home page. If I find something interesting, I subscribe. I started doing this years ago, because I was tired of endlessly scrolling the home page.
The Spiffing Brit channel did a video about the new TH-cam Algorithm and how it's just trying to create viral videos
Eventually TH-cam will just be shorts.

Possibly: and I have zero interest in shorts and avoid them always (even when from my favourite channels). I've even looked at trying to disable them.
Right? I’m subbed because I want to see everything, so my subscription page is where I start when I want to watch things
I want to watch content i subscribed to but i also want to discover different things. In the past those new things were at the bottom when i scrolled past topics i watch most of the videos about but lately i just get some random crap at the top of the page and even refreshing the page is not getting rid of it.

Shad, I love your and Tyranths videos; yes, your videos have changed slightly, but not negatively. The videos have diversified a little, which should broaden the interest base, not diminish it. I hope that you do pull through and that current political events have a freeing effect and saves your channel. I will continue to tell people about your channels; keep the faith, brother. youtube isnt about "you" anymore
It hasn't been since they got rid of the tag, Broadcast Yourself.
It's becoming very much a Tube though with how it's herding viewers...
YT is pushing AI crap.
Nah, I have only see one or two AI generated content video for like a year, the rest are TH-camrs that use an AI tool to create some images.
And Google runs those AI video cloning farms in the Middle East and South Asia. YT is also their property.

and yet mr beast and the paul brothers still have a platform even after the stuff they did 🤔🤨
The algorithm is not really the problem here.

The smartphone (and smart devices) and the toddlerification and proliferation of "apps" have really been disastrous for the human race.
It's the 21st century version of sharecropping.

Very few videos from my subscribers or videos I would deem worth a click, I struggle to find anything to listen to or watch last few weeks especially
Its true TH-cam never suggests anything I like
One tip I can give you is to reset the algorythm by deleting your video history. Our tastes change over time so this will give youtube the opportunity to show you new stuff. Its more effective than trying to fight it by selecting "not interested" to anything you dont like (anymore).
Why use suggest at all? My subscription page is my go to page, I always see all the new videos of my favorite creators that way.
@ChaptermasterPedroKantor-kv5yw How do you find new content outside of your subscription feed?
@@orga7777 Well, there is of course the suggestion bar to the right. But overall, it's the same way I discover new music despite not listening to the radio or TV.
*Please never give up shad, you're a bastion here in youtube.*
Nah nah mate, he's a ravelin. Completely different.
I had to change my Bookmark to "SUBSCRIPTION" since the amount of AI generated shit I get recommended to me is annoying in the "FRONT PAGE" of YT.

It seems to be anything aimed more towards men, is something TH-cam no longer wants.
Because we all use adblockers.
I'm the same.
welcome to how I've used youtube for the past 10 years
It hasn't nuked itself yet and it's made a lot of bad decisions. The fact the Paul brothers haven't been out right banned is a problem.
@ how many people are you subscribed to for that to be the case? I’m only subscribed to 23 people. Half of which don’t make videos daily.
I don't always use that tab unless I've cleared out my notifications on my phone and then I need to look for it.
But even the search function is getting bad. You might get a few relevant videos with it, then just getting garbage that's unrelated to the topic you are searching for.
Skalagrim is a cancel pig, he doesn't deserve your support
Subscriptions page shows you all the content you usually want, don't use the "Home" page, it's trash.
The youtube algorithm has been getting progressively worse over the past decade.

i know it's not an ideal solution, and that it would definitely come with its own problems and challenges, but i still need to ask.
They want people docile and sheep like so you'll do what they want.
Yep, it smells weird too. As if an army of bots were doing it, not even genuine. Wouldn’t surprise me, too…
Don’t feel discouraged shad, I love your videos
Absolutely, I'll do my best to keep everyone up to date and informed!
Also, please add an actual $1 tier in channel membership. Current one is close to $3.5 for me.
I think we love sword reviews for the exact same reasons you like doing them!
Like I've noticed every upload from everyone I'm subscribed to, I might not watch every video cause I'm not interested but I at least see them
That doesn't solve dropping impressions that normally counter balance regular unsubscribing numbers
sadly yes. i almost never click the my subs button. i should but i just never had to do it in the past 12 years of watching YT so it never became a habit for me
Yeah I don’t get it personally. I check the sub box daily. That’s literally what it’s for.
On phones you can press and hold the TH-cam app icon and it will breakout into additional icons subscription, shorts and search. Drag and drop one or all them on to your home screen and use them to launch the app directly into each tab. I only launch YT now using the sub icon so I open the app directly to my sub feed.
Most people just want to quickly look at the main feed decide if they want to watch anything and then get off.
Don't worry, I may not be subscribed, but I'll still watch your content, Shad.
Shad we are with you stay strong it must get better.
TH-cam is HEAVILY bumping Sov Cit stuff, no matter how many times I tell them to not send me that channel, they find another one.
Sovereign citizen? That's an odd thing for TH-cam to promote
Half the time YT hides the subscriptions until I manually search by name along with the category up top to prevent you from selecting recent content.
@ there is a tab with all the subscriptions, it's on the left bar: the tabs are home, shorts, subscriptions, you.
the answer is yes
It's an entire page with only your subs on it, how can youiss it?
@@marcogenovesi8570 TH-cam removes it half the time and even unsubs me often requiring manual searches. YT has canceled Glenn Beck almost monthly on me for an example. Same with Joe Pags but I get him on Rumble now.
