To all the people worried about math when it comes to nursing, don’t! I have been diagnosed with an actual learning deficiency in math! But I’m not gonna let it hold me back from going for my dream after HS.

I am the same...I suffered all my life from not being able to cope with Math and I was so embarrassed as a child. I always failed. I am applying for Nursing at the moment and I am so nervous about this.

I know I have dyscalculia but it's undiagnosed. I have struggled with math my whole life, I've been embarrassed because of it because what seems easy to the average person is difficult for me and it eats away at my self-esteem. Despite the hindrances that come with dyscalculia, I'm going to enroll in nursing school and give it my best shot. Even though I'm nervous as heck I'm going into it with a positive mindset.

I am in the middle of a college precalculus class and it is kicking my ass. I study all the damn time and I can't pass a quiz or an exam to save my life. I'm so frustrated and I don't know what to do.
I wish I could be a pro at mathematics! XD

I am studying for the teas entrance exam and the math sucks. I have a low percentage in the math section. I feel so discouraged and I don’t want to be a nurse for that reason.
Thank you so much for sharing and the encouragement! I'm struggling with algebra right now but getting better at remembering all the skills. I needed this encouragement because I was getting fearful that I wouldn't be able to move forward if I was not a A+ student in my class. I feel like once I have the repetition in what I would need to do only then I will succeed. But unfortunately algebra as so many things that I feel like I don't even need. And It is so hard at times. But I'm pushing through and one step closer to my goal.

This is one of the reason why I stir away from RN. I chose RT OVER RN, now I am on my program, made me reaLized that we have may as well like ventilation. I was like, if I am going hard on memorizing formulas for RT ventilation, why can't I do this for RN? Also, for RN WHAT are the math class when you are in the program? Aside from the dosage formula?

I don’t see how your math abilities affect your nursing competency...
It has to do with code of ethics. The nurse’s math skills must be enough to where the patient is not at risk. Adjustments and stuff can be made but if the person can’t do what is needed in regards to the math then that nurse lacks competency. That’s what I read earlier...
Omg I hate math well I'm not gonna say I hate it I think it's very fun and interesting I just can't memorize it.

Georgia Rogers, It’s stressful. I just want to succeed and not let that disability hold me back. We must try our hardest; we have too. And nursing school has a lot of math but the nursing calculations that we have to do our easy they don’t look too bad. Like why do we have to take all this extra math that we don’t have to perform to be a great nurse? Good luck to you

Lol I am sure the pharmacist is not gonna be annoyed your asking him how to do middle school math
Pharmacists are always happy to help nurses and physicians, regardless of how simple things can be. I've never had one upset with me for asking questions, as I'm not upset with them when I'm asked things that may seem obvious to me. It is always better to double check with others if you are not sure. At the end of the day, the safety of the patient is the highest priority. Mistakes can be made even in easy calculations, I've seen experienced nurses, physicians, and pharmacists make math mistakes. If we're all checking each other's work, even if it's simple, that's the safest way to practice... not giving people a hard time for checking their math with others.
