I have cable box and a Roku, your saying they should both connect through the receiver first. But, when we want to just watch news or a TV show without going through all of our speakers how would we make this connection? We’d just like to use the TV’s speakers for news programs and regular TV shows. And is it possible to set up the receiver so that when we turn on the Roku box it “triggers” the receiver to come on automatically? Our receiver is a Marantz SR5010. Thx
A receiver with HDMI standby pass-through can be powered off and pass the audio/video from a device to a TV. There are HDMI technologies that can be turned on or off in some devices to help trigger HDMI connected gear to turn on/off with them being turned on/off. We recommend contacting technical support to check if your Roku has this ability. If you purchased it from us, you can contact our technical support to check if your Roku supports this ability. We include their toll free phone number on the order invoice
Sir, thank you for making this video. I do have a question, and I hope you or anyone else can answer this. In these sorts of videos, the assumption seems to be 1 user. One user that can sit in the middle of the speakers in that perfect sweet spot. But what if I have a family and we all want to enjoy an awesome experience which does cost a lot of money. How do you handle that sweet spot then?
I recommend widening the sweet spot. Put the left/right speakers outside of the sitting area so that the left speakers are to the left of the left-most seat and the same for the right speakers. This layout along with an AVR that can take a measurement from each of your seats in the room as part of its calibration system will help get everyone an enjoyable experience.
Thank you. Very clear and very helpful. What should you do when you only have 1 HDMI input on your receiver? I have a 4 in 1 out HDMI 2.0 switch. I'm having trouble setting up the sound. I have a cable box, a TV, and a PS/4 game box; plus the surround sound that I want the sound to come from. Should I be using the ARC HDMI port from the TV on the out port of the switch?, and then the in ports on the devices. The switch supports all the audio formats, but does it support the ARC channel from the components and then switch that properly to the output port that goes to the ARC HDMI port on the TV?
The answer to this will vary depending on the specifics of the receiver and TV as well as the issue that is happening when setting up the TV. I recommend contacting an advisor via chat or a phone call to discuss your gear, the issue, and see if we have something that can fix it. Here's how to reach us for this help: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTVc227/support/ContactUs.aspx
You can, even if your vintage receiver options do not have a subwoofer RCA output. It's a good idea to use a modern subwoofer with a speaker-level input feature like the SVS SB-1000 Pro in the link below. Though this feature is not available on all powered subwoofers, we do carry a wide selection of options from small to large that do! www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_946SB1KPGB/SVS-SB-1000-Pro-Gloss-Black.html
I’m having troubles connecting a Sherwood 5.1 system. How do you connect it to a tv via an Xbox one,I did everything with both hdmi and a toshlink cable and neither worked.I bought it second hand and have no remote or manual.and the centre and surround speakers are not working even though I connected ,how do u get them going, they have good connections and cable and they work, just no sound. Thanks
sorry to hear you're having some technical issues with your setup. We do not carry the Sherwood systems, but it does sound like a wiring issue, or something just isn't communicating properly. If you haven't already, try connecting the TV to the HDMI output, and the Xbox to the HDMI input. If you have the model information on the receiver, you should be able to find the manual to the product online, to ensure that your connections are correct. You may also want to try reaching out to the manufacturer's technical support department for assistance.

There is no one answer to that question that is best of everyone with your gear. The listener's preferences will impact the final crossover setting that is used so the best answer is to try different settings so you can discover which you like the best. Do this while playing one of your favorite movies that has a lot of bass and one of your favorite songs too. And keep in mind that you never want a setting for a speaker that is outside its frequency response
That will be more of a challenge but not impossible. Many of the AVRs we carry have room correction and time-alignment software included. That can help compensate for less-than-ideal speaker placement.
thank you for this video. My tv is on top of a dresser in my bedroom and the center speaker is behind the tv there is no other place for it. Does it compromise the sound quality?

Just purchased a set of pioneer sp -fs52 speakers and had them crash my amplifier. Took a multimeter to them and found that these speakers rated at 6ohms are both sitting at 12 ohms. Anyone ever seen this happen? I literally can’t find anyone on google that has run into this before.
Technically, you can use them to connect any compatible device. We didn't use them because the receiver has them and is setup as the input switching device which helps make the system easier to use. Adding devices to the TV's inputs will create a more complicated to use system as now the TV and the receiver need to be set to the proper input.

On the back of the amplifier does the speaker cable have a red and white output the same as the back pf speakers or just the 1 end
Some amps have color coded speaker terminals while others just labels to indicate the positive and negative ports.

If your receiver offers the option for a wired connection as well, you can use an ethernet cable.
