I've been snowmobiling all my life. And 99% of the scary/knarly stuff I've gotten myself into only a couple people have ever seen, and it's definitely not on video. And I can tell you this. By going into that country, climbing that hill, side-hilling above the ravine/waterfall, and coming out of that canyon in the dark. And leading everyone in and out of there. You have proven yourself as one of the best snowmobilers out there. You don't need to apologize for it! Hell yeah!
Even tho Derek is the least comfortable in the group, he is still better than 95% of other riders out there! Tip of the hat to you being understanding with him! Keep it up!
Should definatly do a fireside talk about this day with the guys. Super props to Derek. To be in that kind of unforgiving hole with no way out but to push beyond comfort and stay calm and get it done while being exhausted is so awesome what a beast.
You crazy bastard! Gave me the chills watching. That feeling of regret after realizing you got yourself in over your head is sure a scary one! Glad you made it out safe.
Wow. I was on the edge of my seat watching this. This is an epic blockbuster adventure short movie. Several moments of “ no way they can keep going”. That climb was right up there with the old thunderstruck movies! Nice adjustment near the top to just keep going. Thought you were losing the sled when it rolled. Then the crazy side hill looked scarier than the chute climb. Then the big bowl with the walls…they’re done…then you find the route. The nervous honesty and Derick’s hesitation added authenticity to what many of us feel riding certain lines. Wow that’s worthy of being in a movie festival. Awesome job.
I just picture the heli skiers spending all this money and coming out there to ski expecting this pristine mountain that’s been untouched and instead the whole thing is cut up with snowmobile tracks hahahaha
So you're a total dick that takes pleasure in other peoples misfortune instead of trying to get along with each other. As a lifelong skier, snowboarder and sledder you are an embarrassment to Canada.
@ I always wondered how that worked. Do they unofficially own a specific area that they fly into or do they have to apply for like a yearly permit for an area and can only land there?
You should do a video with Derek just talking about all the things that were sketchy to him and you. I would love to hear his thoughts on the terrain you take him in!
Hearing that 850 Patriot Boost siiiiinging was pure pleasure You got some balls of steel Matt. You saw an opportunity with the best conditions available and you took it. You'll remember this for the rest of your life man - well done🤘🤘🤘🤘
Some of my favorite videos and explorer missions. You're too hard on yourself. You give advice in your videos all the time of what to do or not to do. Plus most of us watch your channel because we don't have the skill to even try anything like this. I wish we had more than just trails here in New Hampshire. Keep up the awesome videos
Most everyone knows that it’s hard to judge steepness on camera. You could tell how steep this shit was on camera and I can’t imagine what it would be in real life. Crazy. You were riding with such great confidence Matt. Awesome vid!
Man that was EPIC. Holy cow. Absolutely amazing. No dangers of me ever doing anything like that... that's so far above my skill set (and physical conditioning) that I'm more than happy to watch videos of you guys doing it. The filming was top notch and I LOVE the 360 camera views. Even though the GoPro doesn't usually convey how steep stuff is, for some reason on this one, I could tell! Or at least it looked steep to ME... which means it must have been even worse for you. Again, amazing job!! I'm so glad everybody go out of there safely with minimal issues and damage.
Now that was a true edge of the seater.... That is some awesome amazing country... u guys are awesome rider's... those side hills had me on the edge of my seat in my living room..... and the way u guys help each other is a testament to what kind of friends you all are.... keep em coming...
as a novice mountain/backcountry snowmobiler with no official AIARE accreditation, I'm always amazed at the terrain that the snowmobile TH-camrs put themselves in in almost every video, but this video surely takes the cake. considering the position, Matt has evolved into I think he handled the disclosure disclaimer aspect of this video appropriately. I live on the east coast and we fly west to do backcountry riding so my seat time is pretty limited and I can tell you I almost certainly would not have musterd the courage that Derrick did to sidehill on the clutch side across that ravine. I would've turned right the fuck around and look for a nice nice level meadow to play in. The entire video was terrifying . I hope in the future to get enough seat time to develop the confidence to ride that kind of terrain and that life offers me the opportunity to do so and glaciers like that.
The sidehill above the waterfall on your way in had me thinking no way, especially thinking about right side on the way out. I felt better when at least one of you had the same idea. Big day.
@@KTMGREG55 He literally said in the video that he took the Polaris because of the sidehilling he was going to need to do with the snow conditions they had.
Nice to see im not the only one who picks lines in the heat of the moment that we're not such a great idea, but in the end wernt that bad! Lol. It's always nice to have new scenery.
Damn, Ive watched a couple of live "Avey" slide rides, that downhill almost made me feel like that. A ride for the books. Most excellent 58minutes. Glad everyone made it safe.
Please be carful man. The best in the world get bit. You are in the top of the food chain for riding abilities. About the best I've seen and I have ridden with some greats back around 2006.

This was the most incredible video iv seen.. no matter the conditions, the heli skiers dropping in the same vally you guys are in. Staying together & just enjoying the moment 🤷♂️👍
Did showing the Heli logger a little love on the way in cross your mind? What would you estimate the slope angle to be on the sidehill Deryk struggled on? I think you did a good job of demonstrating the realities of backcountry decision making, calculated risks, having a plan B, good decisions, bad ones, and the learning that took place along the way.
Keep it up! Your videos are the best on TH-cam by far and not a bad example they give those of us who cant ride except for weekends and holidays inspiration to progress ourselves and let us see places we probably wont ever get to ride.
Thank you for the incredible ride today pushing your limits. But that snow was so wonderful once in a lifetime ride. Loved it when the heli was in the back ground when u were climbing. Love BC and the mountains. Play safe keep the vids coming
I'm glad the bigger channels still need 85 takes to do an intro or outro. 😂that makes me feel better. Feel better bro! Look forward to the next adventure
Your a brave man, not crazy about that camera view, seems distorted and , well maybe I'm just not used to it. But it's harder to get a perspective watching it. Good job entertaining us!!!
That was pretty crazy terrain you guys explored! I've gotten into places I shouldn't have been and recall having huge anxiety all day thinking I have to go down that or across that to get back out, not a fun feeling. Would like to be a fly in that heli though to hear all the cursing at your crew lol!
What’s up Matt? Another great video. You ever use spare belts as front brakes to slow you down? Loop one over the tip of each ski. Acts like a bit of an anchor and slows the front end down with the drag from the belts.
That was sick! No pun intended hope you get well soon stay safe. That was a very Crazy Canadian Dan Davidoff line. Know he was looking down watching Laughing cheering you on certainly know I was.
Derek you did awesome…and these guys are the best role models to trust! On those right sidehills try moving your feet ….forward to keep the front end down, back to lift the nose to climb….and even half a boot length can make all the difference!! Ride Safe all of you!! Cheers 🍻
Hahaha wow this brings back memories from the big iron shootout in 2006. I climbed some chutes on a 350hp yamaha and 3/4 way up I remember thinking wtf am I doing!! Yes we were climbing that crazy shit with the older sleds!!!

Great video. Anyone with any kind of experience in steep stuff would have made the exact same lines. Good that you’re respectful of the situation but the snow was good and you learnt from it. LOL - they just fly off to somewhere else & ski - like you saw them do - each lodge typically has a 100km-by-100km area they can ski on
So you're a total dick that takes pleasure in other peoples misfortune instead of trying to get along with each other. As a lifelong skier, snowboarder and sledder you are an embarrassment to Canada.

@@bradmorrow4688pretty sure it’s like the guide outfitters, they have to apply for a commercial land use permit or something of that sort
Well think of all the money these guys spend on sleds, gas, housing in the area, etc. They have just as much right to be there as the skiers.
