    Greata I invite you to come and sit by a turf fire in an Irish cottage and appreciate a roaring turf fire and a big mug of Barrys tea....How dare she refuse the invite....Long live the turf cutters...

    I spent my early childhood with my father - using a machine not very different from the one shown: I recently returned to see the place where we cut turf - and I'm glad to say that the bog remains fully intact and nobody takes any turf from it. I also saw a bog totally used up near where I lived there - its now grazing land for a herd of cows! According to the scientific community, these bogs are environmentally very important - so I hope they remain intact. There are other, and better ways, to heat a home!

    Crazy machine, when I was a boy I help to take from a turf cutter, spear the newly cut turf, later save the turf, bring it off the bog and onto the side of the road, and help to stack it, and later carry the tried turf home in baskets loaded on a donkey. It was not easy work for a young boy but I never complained.

      It was backbreaking work but essential for families to stay warm in the winter. How our country has changed...

      @@HamOnHill what you say is true, when my family talk about the old day working on the bog, we often talk about the homemade sandwiches and the bottle of cold sweep tea and if we were very lucky a packet of the best USA assorted biscuits

    Harvesting Ireland's God-given sustainable fuel. But the planet worshippers want to keep us cold and in the dark.

      It's actually worse than that they want many of us gone... They actually believe half the population or more needs to go... They even admit it...

    Use timber and coal usually but coal is a luxury at this stage. Should buy a heap of this tbh.

    Hi, what is it used for

    • @HamOnHill
      @HamOnHill  ปีที่แล้ว

      The peat is damp when the machine extrudes it into the 'sod' shape that you see on the video. The sods dry naturally in the sun and wind. The final product is used for fuel in domestic fires. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peat

    As island nation self dependency is very important as can be shown by the war in ukraine causing heating oil,gas and electricity to become unaffordable and scarce for alot of people.

    If it was next to free I would use it. I don't know if anybody else has noticed but saving the planet depends on what corporations and the third world do. We're doomed- in the meantime enjoy peat in hearth n garden.
