This album is a message from the old, real world. From a time before the algorithms stole our time, our attention span, our patience, our focus and our reverance for the deep mysteries of human creativity. I used to live there. Soon my kind will be gone.

Probably. As it becomes integrated with technology humanity will likely evolve into a new species. But that future species will need the art of the past more than ever to remind them what it is to BE human. And someday, somewhere far off in the universe those future humans will be listening to the music of John Fahey.......among so many others.

I believe we can still refuse to be part of it, if we want. One just needs to prioritize importand things and use the phone and these modern techologies only when they are actually neccessary.

It's February 25, 2023. It's wet and chilly outside. The sky's are heavy with either rain or snow, or both. The living room is dark, no lights. Just the dull gray light from outside.
Newton, my pup, is curled up on his bed sleeping and probably dreaming of warmer, sunny days. Maybe that's my dream as I close my eyes and listen. Right now, this is my escape.
    Thanks for the great music.

I listened to this and Sad Pig Dance by Dave Evans constantly as a young teenager. I was ruined for any 'commercial' music forever. My friends' Led Zep, Slade etc just seemed so shallow and bland. 50years later not a lot has changed. This is Art. I used to live there. We are a dying breed.

John Fahey, if I had to choose music from one musician to be played upon my passing it would be Fahey, I picked up this album, which I still have, in the 60’s. I got to see him live , late 60’s, at The Backdoor, small venue at San Diego State College. Fahey walked into the room eating a sandwich, sat down, played, got up and exited. Don’t think he said a word, was he pissed off?, don’t know and don’t care. It was only about hearing the playing.
Fahey didn’t have the easiest of lives, pretty much self inflicted, an interesting read is the Fahey WIKI page.

I also love how he injects his early arrangements into his newer ones (like Poor Boy in Voice of the Turtle and When Springtime Comes Again in Mark 1:15 - two of my favorite pieces to play). Shows the true timelessness of his music.

As much as I like the extra tracks on the CD version, this is the record I spent the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s listening too. Who knows how it would have sounded (running order, etc) if Fahey had released it as a double album. But this is the record that he DID release and the record companies should respect his artistic choices and find another way to present the other music--maybe a double CD?

Listening to this album, I can feel the collective warmth of all the massive dumps contemporary Western society has taken on the heritage of Western music. What a shame that this album has so few listens when people whose sole interest is stitching together slurs get more listens in the first minutes of releasing their albums. It really reflects on how downhill we have gone as a civilization, and how we might be nearing our end. Here's to hoping we get back in touch with genuine, soulful expression and exploration.
