  • In this episode of Marty Motoring, we look at my 2005 Toyota Sequoia Limited 4x4 with 313,500+ miles on it and everything I've fixed or modified to make it fully functional. I look at common issues and fixes to be expected with the 2001-2007 Toyota Sequoia.

    2005 Toyota Sequoia Limited here .. 200k+ miles.. given to us by in-laws.. just had the suspension fixed, wouldn’t lift anymore.. works great now, serpentine belt next. My wife and I are in our 60s so the kid is grown and out.. just two dogs. Looking to get a tear drop trailer, some minor camping stuff and hit the road for some long weekends just the two of us.

    That first generation 4.7 L V8 of sequoia is the longest lasting engine on this planet ever made. Same engine is in the Tundra from that generation. It will outlive you. You did a nice job fixing it up and making up to mark. Great, informative video.

    I bought an 05' Sequoia with 185k, one owner, pearl white, in great shape minus a driver door hinge issue which I still need to fix. I was hesitant now at 210k to throw money at it putting a 2 inch lift but reading all the stories on the milestones these trucks a capable of reaching I took the risk. Great family truck.

    My black 2005 Limited is at 309K. Same grill and headlights as your's with a 2" lift and 33" Method wheels. Interior is a little rough but coming along. Did the valve covers at 273K because they leaking like a sieve😂. I've driven it to Kentucky, Oklahoma, Missouri (3x), Maine, New Hampshire (3x) and all the states in between(coming from upstate NY). I bought our 2003 when it was 2 years old with 24k miles on it. Now (2024) it has 152k and my wife gave me the green light to build it. I'm not sure what that week entail besides tires, wheels and a lift. Maybe a winch bumper and some lighting. I've run the larger "stock" 265/70-17 Geolander AT's for years but will switch to 285/70 soon, maybe a BFG KO2 or even a mud tire. Likely keep the Geolanders for occassioal Utah to West Coast runs. Most of my miles now are a monthly 250 mile round trip to corporate office in Wyoming and the light off-road driving when i'm there or when we go to Southern Utah. The Sequoia will never be a rock climber but it is still great in the dirt.

    If I know 0 about working on cars, I’m wondering which Toyota SUV, not truck would be lowest cost of ownership. Gen 1, gen 2 sequoia. 100 series? GX

    • @MartyMotoring
      @MartyMotoring  ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything with a V8 will be truck based and have a frame that will rust/rot and the V8 needs a timing belt replacement every 90-100k miles. So hard to say low cost of ownership. The V6 4Runner would probably be simplest, or Gen 2 sequoia with the 5.7L V8. Land Cruiser is the same older 4.7L V8 as the Sequoia and GX. Timing belt instead of a chain...

    • @skipgumphrey9579
      @skipgumphrey9579 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Or the 4cyl RAV4 which is a unibody but can be had in 4c4 and the 2.5 doesn’t use a timing belt so maintaining it would be cheaper with WAY better fuel economy if you don’t need the room/towing capability of the V8…

    • @georged822
      @georged822 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@skipgumphrey9579 too many good options from Toyota. I think you're right maybe a unibody would be most prudent seeing as gas here is $5 a gallon

      Don’t forget the Highlander. It’s also unibody but you can get the bulletproof 3.5V6 if you want 22mpg on the highway but more oooomph than the RAV4. That V6 is the same one as my Lexus GS350 and they basically run forever with proper maintenance…

    • @MartyMotoring
      @MartyMotoring  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! Yeah so I wanna say I did the second but honestly can’t remember, maybe it was the third (I’ve probably said it in the past and forgot already).
      I think the third setting makes the front higher than the rear.
      It’s weird because mine looks level, but the wheel gap from fender to tire is different in the front and rear…I’d like to lift it another inch with springs eventually but it rides fine for now. I think new springs will help a lot with ride feel
