It's not the type of game Jon usually likes playing, but if I remember correctly I first discovered Jon's channel when he was doing a play through of LA Noir, which he enjoyed because the storytelling was as strong as the gameplay. Sadly, I'm not sure we will get a play through of Mafia from Jon. I hope he does like.
I think it's because of law more than anything. One thing I know is that UK law is incredibly strict when it comes to any sort of sponsorships/advertisements/etc.
@ Jon it’s 1930s, Right of Way and other motoring laws haven’t been invented yet and everybody is just driving by the honor code. I could argue that some drivers in the New Jersey/New York STILL don’t understand what Right of Way is. Being a pedestrian in America is kind of scary, you grow up getting used to it.
I very much appreciate that when he does do a sponsored video he says it right up front and is honest about the reasons why. It is one of the reasons I trust his opinions when looking for a new game.
I've loved this game, and the Definitive Edition just brought it all back, there's a reason I've already finished the campaign and collected nearly all the collectables already. Glad to see Jon managed to get a 2K Sponsor for this as well! An amazing video game in the hands of an amazing content creator getting paid by the company who made/released the game? Sign me up.
John, at a four way intersection with no lights, the car that arrives first has right of way. They should then all take turns going, continuing in the order they arrived in.
I finished this today on classic difficulty. It is the best way to play but not for those who are easily frustrated as it is quite hard, let’s just say there are a few more fist shaped holes in my wall now. Side note: I want to play Mafia: seagull edition.
I am just imagining some seagull gangsters roughing up some humans to convince them that the Seagull Mafia is the only way to guarantee they are protected, by poking thier knees.
Mafia... the game that defined the childhood of every gamer in my country... because it was made here. The game blew everything what our small country could make out of the water.
This was fun and entertaining! The characters look like a mash up of various mafia characters from different movies. I like this because it was not mind numbingly typical of mafia games. And of course the car race was the funniest part. Hopefully we'll see more of this! Great video, Jon! Thank you!
That race was a nightmare in the original version. I've repressed how many tries it took me to get past it (IIRC one of the reasons it was so hard was that the developers used steering wheels instead of mouse and keyboard when they tested it)
I absolutely adored the original in 2002. Really looking forward to this. I am not 100% sold on the new faces/voices, but that's probably just nostalgia/resistance to change. Otherwise it seems very faithful.
I played the original, and it's bloody awesome. Beautiful game, that required a hell of a rig, when it came out. I remember, it was very difficult, 'cause there was no controller for me. No. Those old cars are top heavy, and very hard to drive, with only keyboard controls. And don't even get me started on the car chases, where you had to shoot, at same time. Man, I have restarted some of these first missions, and especially the race, many times. I would love to see a playthrough of this.
Jon: Paulie put a guy in a wheelchair even though the Don said not to break legs. I think he might be a bit of a psychopath. Also Jon: /tries to run a car off the road for no good reason other than he wanted to
Golden gate bridge lol, most of Mob activity in the 1930's was taking place in the east coast but man I do gotta say I love mafia games like this and your playthroughs,I cant wait til Empire of Sin comes out
I never played the original Mafia. I did play some Mafia 2 (I think that was the one). It was midwinter with snow everywhere and the streets were icy. It made driving around a giant pain. I think I put 2 or 3 hours in before I gave up, I just wasn't having fun.
I don't mind watching Sponsored videos by MATN, because they are always entertaining. Also it gives Jon money to do the other co-sponsored supremely entertaining videos.
Pretty sure it takes place in Chicago, it's either that or New York. You can tell by the fact it has an above ground train for transit. But I doubt it's New York. Also there was no speed limits seat belts and loads of things in the early automotive period, for quiet sometime I am sure you could do research to explain some of it later with dates in another Episodes or such.
The seagul game sounds like it would be great. Hopefully the seagul would be Martin Copping's friend Stumpy, he's got the right attitude. Plus I'm sure he'd be willing to do the voice over work in return for a few French fries.
I really enjoyed this game. It was a solid retelling of the original story. The Classic difficulty is right challenging, but overall I had fun with it. I think people should at least keep this one in mind, maybe wait for a sale if they aren't interested in full price, and giving it a shot somewhere down the line!
Oh my god that race... That race in the original was hell on earth. It really got me in trouble. In 2002, 16 year old me was literally sitting in front of the pc all night trying to beat this race. Only when my mum came in to wake me for school i realised I had stayed up all night. The only thing I could do was to pretend I got up early to play a bit before school otherwise my parents would've killed me! Then it was off to school, trying to not fall asleep all day. Good times!
Jon have you ever considered trying out Sunless Sea? Its is a wonderful gothic horror/lovecraftian sailing simulator with heavy doses of dark humor. And the setting is just 10/10.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought/think that The Speed Limiter was a brilliant idea! Also: "Hes a Baker, he isnt gonna pose much of a threat" Me: Remembers working in a bakery and accidentally put Hazelnut Cookies into Double Coch Chip Cookie bags...sure Nerd, whatever you say 😂
21:30 That is not the Don's car. It was Dino's car. He was one of the guys who attacked and chased you. 36:05 You are in the 1930s. That car is from the 1950s. The game gives it to you, but it does not belong.
"We're gonna give you this dump truck full of money to play a game you was gonna play anyways." 2K made Jon an offer he couldn't refuse.
@@SuperG3X What he needs or doesn't need isn't up for you to decide.

i love how blunt jon was in the sponsor intro

shadowingyou
Yeah if you beat around the bushes about sponsored content, UK laws will destroy you. I like it that way though, keeps things transparent
`The way it should be, really.
2K spends boatloads of money on advertisement for their game. Jon: "As far as I am aware, I am a seagull. I am going to make it"
... And my first shakedown involved a bakery. Maybe I AM actually several seagulls in a really nice suit.
@@ManyATrueNerd it is impossible to tell.

You cooin' to me?
Is the seagull mod available yet
“Ooh, maybe I’m playing as a postman, that’d be fun” Might i introduce you to a game called Fallout New Vegas?
@Vance Jacobs Yeah, he probably never heard of it
@@Torlik11 To be fair, New Vegas is the unknown black swan of the Fallout series. Like, it's okay, but it's definitely not Brotherhood of Steel.
@@TrinixDMorrison All right, this one actually got me for a second..
Death stranding.
Fallout New Vegas is good!

Being a pedestrian in America is kind of scary, you grow up getting used to it.
I'm cutting Jon a bit of slack due to the fact he's a British man trying to drive on American roads, with a car made almost 100 years ago.
Not to gloat but I am also a British man and I found the driving to be not just enjoyable but easy even on simulation mode.
even so he should know that in the absence of traffic lights the cars on your right hand side have right of way (at least outside the UK).
Also he still doesn't know how cars work.
Probably thinks horsepower is the number of horses in the engine.
Matn drives on the left frequently here yet kept driving on the right in London watchdog's :')
I genuinely don't get how people are so bad at driving in games lmao.
You didn't turn on the "police fines you for speeding" mode? That was the true Mafia experience
I would love a full series of this, this is a blast. Please Jon make it happen.
"Who needs Mikey Dunne, this guy is a fine replacement" *flips car over* 😂😂😂
Jon's response to sponsors is just golden... I'm gonna play this anyways and I love money.

ok, first impression, this opening cut scene is really well done.

Plot twist:
Jon has managed to become the mafia boss of 2k and likes to mess with everyone by getting 'sponsored' by them.
It's called money laundering. Don't ask where te 'sponsorship' money comes from.
Good on you for getting sponsors Jon, you magnificent bastard!
I now want a seagull mafia game that ends with the joke "In the end, Crime is for the birds"
Somehow reminds me of the Warner "Godfeather" cartoons.
Maybe the Untitled Goose Game guys can make that
I've loved this game, and the Definitive Edition just brought it all back, there's a reason I've already finished the campaign and collected nearly all the collectables already. My favorite Jon-ism is "Turns out I'm a genius at [game mechanic]". It's so consistent.
I want to play the seagull game Jon described in the beginning
Right?!
Its rare to see a sponsored video and to think I want to see more of the game they were playing. I would love to see you keep this game going.
John, at a four way intersection with no lights, the car that arrives first has right of way. They should then all take turns going, continuing in the order they arrived in.
Is that really how its done in America? Wtf.

Did most of them come from the race?
That and the snipers at the dock. But it was worth it for the made man achievement.
I am just imagining some seagull gangsters roughing up some humans to convince them that the Seagull Mafia is the only way to guarantee they are protected, by poking thier knees.
The racing mission in the original game was an absolute nightmare to complete. The wheels came off very easily.
“The Mob Rules!”
-Anyone under Mob Rule
Could be announcing they are explaining the rules of the mob
Oh boy I would love to see this turn into a series
I wanted to see Jon play in the Seagull mafia :(
Wait a minute... Molotovs became a thing in WW2!
I guess they were called firebombs before, though.
The intro very defiantly makes it sound like Clare has missed Jon's meds today - hillarius as always

I like how Jon intuitively went to the left side of the road when he was driving the cab legally
Jon... PLEASE play more of this! This would be a great series imo

43:35 Yeah... you really didn't play the original. 😂
Now I want a seagull mob game. Thanks, Jon.
It's weird seeing Tommy Angelo with a different face and different voice and being a completely different character.

The fact that the opening scene is an Irish cop and an Italian mob members is a great microcosm of the actual height of the mafia.
As a cab owner, can confirm one spends a lot of time with other people's thoughts lol.
