Thanks for the content!, Amazing song, it brings good memories no doubts about it. What about working with "Pasilda" from "Afro Medusa"?, a late 90s hit.
Goes for any genre really. Trance had some absolutely amazing releases from 2003 to 2009, that have literally been forgotten with time and will NEVER make it onto a classic trance cd. Majority of classic trance cds are full of late 90s, early 00s releases. I just feel the music back then resonated so much more with people. Music was so rare in a way back then, as DJs were the only ones who had access to tracks that might not actually get released for 2 years. Now with social media and sites like soundcloud, anyone can rip a new track from a dj set with ease.

certainly, one of the tracks of all time! man, how time flies. this track was already 5 years old, before I even started listening to music at all. haha
I can still remember the first time I heard this. It was in of all places a cafe in Saint Kilda Melbourne called big mouth sitting downstairs having a coffee on Saturday afternoon watching the world go by. I had to actually get up and ask the barista what was actually playing and it took him about 10 minutes to find out what CD was playing because the music was actually shot from the restaurant upstairs down to the cafe. I was in highschool, senior years, when this came out, and I was djing in the school radio. First time I played this track people went nuts, asking what it was, asking me to give them a copy. From there on it became a staple on my sets (people would complain if I didn't include it on my set). When I started playing my sets at the school radio people would "complain" because I was only playing dance tracks (acid, trance, techno, etc), but by the time Faithless came out people were already warmed up to dance music (well, the "harder" beats, they simply didn't like the more pop'y house music that much). But after I played Insomnia people were "demanding" me to play sets on every school event and parties. Good old days. Miss djing, might give it a go again, more than 2 decades later :)
That's so interesting because I've heard a lot of back and forth about where that riff sound came from. I've heard about the JD having the original sound, but then I was also told that the Roland JV-1080 was the actual origin of that pizzicato sound. I bought one of those modules literally just for that sound because this song and so many others are from my childhood.

I remember playing both insomnia and god is a dj at a house party for an underground dance collective in SF…nobody had heard of Faithless, but they sure enjoyed those tracks! Their Ally Pally (Alexander palace) 2005 shows were epic. That live version of insomnia was incredible! This track, as you said is instant goose bumps! My clubbing days started around this time and peaked with the trance golden years of '98-'99 (Peach/Camden Palace) and Insomnia was a floor filler then as well. You could hear that stab from anywhere and everyone ran to the dancefloor in time for the drop. It's one of those tunes where you can shut your eyes and instantly go back and imagine being there, even though it's 25 years later! Carte Blanche is another one of those iconic tracks and seeing you talk to Ferry Corsten about it on your previous video was mindblowing. I had no idea that was him! I'd love to see you get your magic list and break that track down. Great tutorial as always! Amen Brother!

OK, my story to "Insomnia": I came back from my year in the Military Service. It was the late summer of 1995. Our last quarter of this year in the army had the line "If I could change the world, I would..." as the soundtrack. Nobody knew what this outstanding track would be in the future. And there was this dude telling everybody in the same song "Just below my skin I am screaming". This was the time of "Salva Mea" which I think is even bigger than "Insomnia". Around the year change 1995/1996 I began dating my girlfriend from that time. She freaked out to "Knock-knock-knocking, I'm knock-knock-knocking" and I wanted something completely different. I always had "If I could change the world, I would..." in my head. And there was this other thing where the same dude said "I can't get no sleep" and this big synth stab crashed everything. THIS was what I wanted at the time. "Insomnia" drives me insane, even today. When I broke up with that girl, "Insonmia" brought me through bad thoughts. When I slipped into bad company, "Insomnia" kept my mind alive. Everytime when I had to freak out, this big synth was everything that was needed. This is such a special song to me. Thank you for the memories. And I followed along your video. I didn't came any close to the original sound. But I don't care as "Insomnia" should stay so special as it was back in 1995. Another great track which was also really special to me is: The KLF - 3 A.M. Eternal
Thank you for sharing that moving story, Henning! 3am eternal - another classic: “KLF…UH HUH uh huh UH HUH uh huh”….beep boop….boop beep…”KLF are gonna rock you…”
Good rendition. There's two patches in the JV-1080 and 5080 called Real Pizz which are very close to the JD-800 patch. But Sister Bliss said it was from a JD then that's the patch.
So many memories to this track, but one big one was being spiked in Eden after starting the night off feeling really rough and then this came on and basically made my night 😂
Nice remake! ❤ One of my favorite tracks. Ive analysed it a lot too over the years, and would actually say the synth used for the bass sound is part of what gives the bassline it’s life. It was the Nord Lead 1 and mixed on a SSL board 😊
If you down own a JD-800 or the plugin version, but you do own a Yamaha MOXF or equivalent, the "Trance Attack" preset is basically exactly the same. Insomnia has one of the greatest riffs of all time. It's one of the things that I can't help playing when I'm sitting down in front of a synth.
Hope you enjoy this as much as I did! Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed this format, and - if so - throw in some classic tracks for me to analyse! (P.S. They have to have been HUGE hits! 😛)

Thanks for sharing, Shane - good to hear from you!! Been a while - how are you?
We never forget Maxi Jazz
thank you for deconstructing this electronic music anthem

Glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
Your story gave me goose bumps (or pimples over here!), too! You might enjoy these two vids I made, too :) th-cam.com/video/XqqdtuQbR7w/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/7YVBbSwZhvs/w-d-xo.html
Thank You Will. Golden 2000s for Trance music.. Airwave- People just don't care.. Amazing track. I really hope... how was made .
Amen, brother.

Another great track which was also really special to me is:
The KLF - 3 A.M. Eternal
Thank you for sharing that moving story, Henning! 3am eternal - another classic: “KLF…UH HUH uh huh UH HUH uh huh”….beep boop….boop beep…”KLF are gonna rock you…”
@EDMTips Do you know the original "Pure Trance" version?
"London by night all alone..." 😀
amazing job...thanks man...RIP MAXI
What this song is doing in the clubs is still unmatched
Couldn't agree more!
Ohhhh yaaaas!
When Dancing to Dance music at raves. I miss my 1990s.
I was 23 when I dance first to this epic track!
Great vid as always Will. Your tutorials have added so much to my own productions. Thanks!

😎🙌
Super insightful and inspiring as usual 😊
Great timing too as I'm see faithless with tinlicker on Thursday. So excited!
Nice! I am jealous right now :)
Good rendition. There's two patches in the JV-1080 and 5080 called Real Pizz which are very close to the JD-800 patch. But Sister Bliss said it was from a JD then that's the patch.
Love this tune, but God is a DJ is one of my all time favorites. First heard it on Club Mix 99 disc 2 mixed by DJ Heaven. Blew my MIND!!!
cool memories , i went to new zeland concert 2004👯 , yes a perfect track ,very nice tutorial
Thanks, Claudio, I am glad you enjoyed it!
For me the Dance track of the century I played this in a lot remixes. I heard it for the first time in Pacha in Salou 🎉
Love it! What a place to hear it first 🙌😎👍
Holy Shit! WOW!!! Instant Goosebumps. Well done!

BOOM! 🙌🙌
Next Silence🙏
OMG yes!!!! Iconic
Oooof….good choice!
My alltime bomb track
So many memories to this track, but one big one was being spiked in Eden after starting the night off feeling really rough and then this came on and basically made my night 😂
Nice remake! ❤ One of my favorite tracks. Ive analysed it a lot too over the years, and would actually say the synth used for the bass sound is part of what gives the bassline it’s life. It was the Nord Lead 1 and mixed on a SSL board 😊
Great info, thanks for sharing!
Great work. Love it!
Cheers, Malcolm!
Mighty tune
Good one thanks 🙏
You're welcome, enjoy! :)
