    Excellent review and I agree 100%. I drove the new Civic touring this past weekend and I've had Hondas for 16 years, but never a Civic. I own a 2013 Accord Touring. I was blown away by the Civic and I've told everyone the new Civic is probably the best value I've seen in a car. I will probably purchase one this year due to the new tech, size and sportiness. I can't wait to see what the next Accord brings but there are quite a few people trading the Accord for the Civic.

      +Brandon Green How would compare the ride and quietness of the Civic next to the Accord? I own a 2013 Accord EX and am thinking of trading it in.

    I think the civic and accord are an apple or oranges debate. Besides more room and trunk space the Accord's ride is totally different. Daily driving in a car with a normally aspirated engine is so much better than always having that turbo to engage. The Accord is tight sled the civic is a toboggan. Both are great cars.

    I'm biased as I currently own a 2016 Honda Accord sport, however I think based on the number of Accords Honda sells it makes sense not to mess with the redesigns too much as it's just an amazing car for this price point. you talk about rear head room, sit in the Sonata's back seat and tell me how much room you have. The main difference in the new civic for me is the narrow seats up front in comparison to the accord, way to narrow IMO!!

    When do you sleep, Paul? Here in continental Europe it's 7am, so I suppose you uploaded it somewhere in the middle of the night. Good test, as usual.

    FYI, the Honda sensing package is a 1000 dollar option that can be had on any trim level, you don't have to get the touring. I got an ex-l a few weeks ago with it.

      +ARLO Acre (awall422) Absolutely! Just doesn't come standard on all packages. Thanks for watching.

    Another excellent review, I have a 2014 with the 4 cyl. in EX-L trim, overall I am happy with it. However Honda grossly over estimates the mileage here in the states I have been averaging between 23-25 mpg in a mix of highway and city driving.

    • @FamilyWheels

      +cardo Interesting. Thanks for watching.

      @tousshong9438 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cardo Not sure why you got that kind of gas mileage on your car but I got 32 MPG mix of 70% Hwy and 30% city driving in winter times between 20-40 Degree. I had seen 37MPG with some strong tail winds one times cruising on hwy alone.

    Two monitors, in my book, will always be better than one, being able to keep the navigation on while viewing your music source or any other information is a good thing. How can you think of two monitors as being bad? Civic does not even come close to the comfort and power of the Touring Accord. You sound like a guy that complains about anything and would probably find something wrong with Charlize Theron. You mentioned hard plastic as being sheep. I was in a New Audi priced above $100,000 that also has hard plastic. All cars have it. The Accord is not a perfect car, but it is a lot better than what your thinking. And at a better price than its competitors. Just my Opinion.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, guy. There are a lot of cars out there that can display a lot of info on a single screen really well and I think it's just more streamlined. And it is my job is to have a critical eye on these cars! That said, no complaints about Charleze.

    I have a 2016 Accord. Issues with the Android interface on the stereo system. It's complicated and continues to freeze. Been to the dealer several times with no fixes. Honda Canada says they are getting complaints but have no fixes. So if I am driving and have some podcasts lined up, and I have the Nav on, and the phone rings, it all freezes. No fix!!!

    You must sit in a different time zone than the steering wheel. I'm 6'3", mostly legs, and when I sit in the seat behind myself I have oceans of leg room. Similar to my dad's Lexus LS. I do crowd the wheel a bit but still.

    Your comments as to how the the Accord compares to the Civic are interesting. See Alex on Autos 2016 Civic review for a commentary that reaches a different summation from yours. Depends on point of view, personal experience, particular interests, etc.. Each person can only decide based on their own particular set of circumstances, but I think I see what you're saying about the over-all design of the Civic being the fresher of the two. I like the exterior look of both cars but I don't like the busy-ness of the Accord infotainment set-up and do prefer a conventional auto trans or DCT over the CVT.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comments, Ronald. Thanks for writing. They both have their benefits but you're absolutely right. This is very much a personal preference and everyone is going to have a different take.

  • @tousshong9438

    I don't know why you didn't the the MPG as Honda stated. I have a 2015 Accord Sport with the CVT and I"m getting 33-34 MPG mix normal driving in the cold Minnesota weather. In fact, I'm getting better gas mileage then my 2015 Mazda3 2.0L 6spd Automatic. In terms or rides and handling, it's pretty much equal in most aspect. The accord have a bit more road noise because it have the bigger and stiffer rubber on them vs. the softer tires on the Mazda3.

    • @cardo1111
      @cardo1111 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure why either but I'm unhappy about the much lower mpg than what Honda stated as EPA estimated 29 City and 36 Highway. I am going to call corporate about it but likely will get nowhere. I live in the NY Metro burbs and commute to work with it about 18k miles
      and mileage has only improved slightly. Regarding the Mazda being quieter than the Honda yes tires can make a huge difference in road noise. I went with the 9th Gen Accord over a Mazda because all things being equal it is a much quieter vehicle. All the best

    The accord touring must offer a 4cyl only in Canada, or at least not in America.

    I like your candid comments even if they are a bit critical as you yourself admitted. The extra space in the Accord over the Civic is not marginal either. The 2018s are built for generation X - that of the disposable auto (as other automakers have done too). It is a bit disappointing considering Honda's history which separated if from most competitors in terms of durability, reliability and longevity. The latest Accord offers the questionable 1.5 T engine coupled with a "synthetic feel" CVT tranny OR the 2.0T which REQUIRES high octane fuel (also comes with the CVT). NO CVT for this driver - ancient technology reborn.
    I'm sorry but I think the K24 (2.4 liter engine) last built for 2017 in Honda (still available in the Acura TLX) is one that we will lament as years go by (prior to the coming straight electric cars ). My wife's current K24 engine has 374,000+ klms and runs like the day we bought it. She just wants a new car....
    As such, we found a 2016 Accord Touring in 6 speed manual - the best of both worlds for someone looking for historic Honda performance/reliability and...it's fun to drive! The only thing better might be a 2017 with the same features. Anyone see one lately??? I looked NATIONALLY to find what I got. - there was but 1! It's ours now!! I LOVE our 2016 Accord! You can have the newer road-eunuch models, thank you very much. I test drove the 2018 Accord. Interesting, but as I turned the corner on that sunny day, I lost my infotainment screen visibility due to glare. ???? That angle it sits on needs to be rethought - big time. The latest versions look great.....end of story.

    No cd player in civic
    No adjustable lumbar support in civic
    having had the civic now for a little while Im still trying to figure out if the drivers seat is entirely comfortable for me or not and as much as I like the new dash and interior - a single screen has some draw backs. Every time you signal right for example you lose whats currently on-screen. The benefit of having the 2nd screen dedicated to the camera views and navigation shouldn't be taken for granted, even if aesthetics are better with only one screen....

    • @jessielees

      Dont get me wrong, the new Civic is a beautifully designed car - just wanted to point out a couple things Ive noticed that may or may not be important depending on ones needs.

      +Ben Stern Thanks for watching, Ben. Both of these vehicles were a little louder than I would've expected... but not terrible. If memory serves me correctly, the Accord was a little quieter.

    • @steelheart4148
      @steelheart4148 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Family Wheels Thanks for the reply. Like your videos. I test-drove both vehicles 2 days ago and found the Accord to be quieter. While the Civic is the newer car, for just a little more money, I found the Accord to be more to my liking.

    I least we agree on the female chassis. She will also be in my top ten for a few years to come.
    Maybe its because I work on computers a lot.
    More screens the better.

      +Cameron Clarke I've thought about this, Cameron. But I think there are too many variables: Are winter tires installed? What is the road surface? Is there any snow/ice/gravel on the road? What temperature is the road surface? If you have any bright ideas about making it an even playing field, let me know.

    the new civic is expensive for insurance in Canada I'm in Ontario

  • @UniversalStand
    @UniversalStand 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have no doubts about the improved ergonomics of the Honda Civic. My guess however is that there are more people that feel the same as myself about the exterior styling of it. The new Civic, (especially the back) is completely hideous. It's so ugly through my eyes that I almost don't care what else it does right. The Accord on the other hand still has great, almost classical styling.
    I personally think Honda's gonna get burned if they copy that ugly Civic exterior styling in future models

    • @UniversalStand
      @UniversalStand 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Btw, the Civic looks like a smaller Crosstour imo.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ken Freeman The Civic and Accord are definitely targeted at different people and demographics. It's good Honda has both choices covered. Thanks for watching, Ken.

    • @UniversalStand
      @UniversalStand 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Family Wheels my only fear is that they'll push that styling to the Accord line. My issue with the styling of the Civic is actually the way the trunk sweeps a la the Crosstour which for me is a deal breaker as it looks just like a hatchback.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear you... I really like the lines on the Civic. But art is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.
