Samsung Sound+ HW-MS550 Soundbar review and test

- This is my impressions (review) of the Samsung Sound+ HW-MS550 All in One Smart Soundbar. This is the little brother to the Samsung MS650 so I was expecting similar performance. I was a little under whelmed with this speaker however that does not come with a seperate subwoofer ( same as the hw-ms650). Take a look at my full review and tests to see and hear my thoughts on this Samsung all in one soundbar.

I was looking for a lower budget soundbar for a living room and got it for 220 euro. For that price range, we were amazed by how good it sounds in bass and clearity. I understand the MS650 can sound much better especially with higher volumes but this was in an appartment having neighbours everywhere around so it was not going to be loud and still sounds amazing.
you can pick the ms650 for about the same money and yes, its a nice step-up from the ms550.
Never knew Antonio Banderas had knowledge about the technology of soundbars ?

Hey Alan. Thanks for the in-depth review of the MS-550. I get that it's not the best sounding soundbar, but I'm thinking of installing one in the outside TV bay of my motorhome under the TV primarily to play music. I like that it has a USB port vs. the 650 which does not. Any thoughts on whether the 550 would sound decent in a non-critical listening environment like this where the finesse is largely lost anyway? Thx.
its not going to sound terrible thats for sure, the main problem for me was the lack of balance between mids and rest of the sound and you lose speech in the midst of dynamic tracks. It was also a bit bright and tiring for a long listen but if you are not looking for the best soundbar you could certainly do worse. In terms of music it wasnt the best but depends on taste i guess.
Hi Alan, thanks for uploading such an in-depth review for this sound bar. I’ve just ordered one and it will be my first sound bar, so I’m guessing it will sound great as I’ve not much else to compare it to. Did you ever try the 650?

I recently purchase a 65inch Samsung tv and for £200 I got this sound bar and the rear speakers (SWA-9000s) I thought for that price it was a steal so I went for it. Do you think at that price this sound bar and the rear speakers was worth it? I’m currently setting it and as I’ve never had a sound bar I’m pleasantly impressed with it.
I intend to buy the Samsung sub-woofer (SWA-W700s/XU) in the near future.
thats a brilliant price, the rear speakers retail at more than that alone. This soundbar wasnt for me, it lacked some warmth and balance for my taste. Not heard it with the rear speakers, perhaps it balances that out. Anyway you cant lose, for that money you could ebay it and still come out ahead. It will beat your tv speakers by a mile thats for sure.

funnily enough im just putting a review together now. Yes got it and really like it. Very well balanced for any type pf listening from quiet to full action.
great, looking forward to your review. I came from av receiver and B&W cm8's to tv sound(which funnily enough isnt bad on my samsung tv), but now considered an easy soundbar + samsung offer free wireless rear speakers on their campaign(january) when you buy some samsung soundbar series including the 650. Im most curious about it's music performance.
music is nice but its a soundbar at heart, its not all that accurate in music terms but a pleasant listen. Hope you enjoy it. Oh yeah, not just the rear speakers, you can add a subwoofer too if you feel you really cant be without a true low end thump.

Try the jbl bar 5.1, the one with the detachable surround speakers. It had 510 watts with a 300 watt 10 inch sub😂😂

You need to give specs of TV your using to give an idea of decoders used etc. My samsung qe55q7fn plays stunning sound through it.
not sure what specs you mean, i was decoding on the soundbar itself, bitstreaming from a media player.
@@alanrossreviews I think he means the device that is the source of the sound. Different DAC can lead to different sound on the same soundbar.
@@richardhendricks7485 but the conversion is done on the soundbar if you bitstream, it takes the source out of the equation.

Alan Ross Reviews no offense, I get that you are not happy with the system. It just seems you were a bit finicky to actually say this thing sucks, but it could be that you are from over there & I’am from the states.
oh i thought i was a bit clearer, sorry, yes for me it sucks. I sent it back. At some point i will try the ms650 which i should have got to start with. Good news is that one is now a lot cheaper than a couple of months ago.

It works well with Samsung QLED F6,7,8 and F9 Smart tv?, thats why you are not getting great sound, if it has HDMI ARC it supports HDR 10 and 4k
thats not true. the sound of the soundbar is not effected in anyway by the tv, its getting a digital signal from the track of your source.

1x 4K UHD - HDMI 24Gbps cable Connect box to 4K UHD Blu-Ray
1x 4K UHD - HDMI 24Gbps cable connect box to PS4
All must be 4K pass through or 4k uhd compatible??? Is that true, these cable cost £24 each
@@iiparachuteregiment8800 first i heard this. the hdmi 2.2 standard is 18 Gbps and cables are less than a tenner depending on length. dont worry about 4k or pass through, just get hdmi 2.2 cables.

only get curve if you have a curve screen and its to match.

yes worth it at that price.
The HW-MS650 gets great reviews but is a bit too wide, so was considering the Samsung HW-MS550 as its smaller but didn't realise the spec was different
yes they sound very different too. ms650 is much better.
How Sony HT CT800 campare to HW-M550?, which u recken is batter
havent heard the sony, i didnt like the 550 however. I did like the ms650 which i have reviewed since.

a bose guy at the ce table me sure they sound great, but ull nevr get a big sound out of a little box. thats y i bought a polk 7.1 ss & never anything shake a brownstone like their subs.

Just say five fifty (550) or six fifty (650) instead of five zero or six zero. Sounds much better

I do agree it is not worth the money I got one wish I had read this review the sound is just a bit better than the t.v the base sound is useless

yeah im gonna give one a try in a couple of weeks.
the trouble is, you may need a subwoofer, and if you want 5.1 you need the rear speaker kit, then you're way over £1,000 !
yeah but if i wanted that i wouldnt go for the ms650, its because i do want an all in one.

this is the worst review ever, on one hand hes saying its great the other he says its not!! make your mind up, his whole review argues with its self, he says hes never seen a good review of it, ive seen loads of good reviews about it. hes picky and very unclear about what he wants, for the price i would say its great, hes comparing it to high end bars which it will never live up too.
