Renault Clio Central Locking Actuator Replacement

- My driver's side rear central locking wasn't working, so I fixed it.
Initially, taking the entire locking mechanism out of the door looked too fiddly and not worth it, but after trying (later on in the video) it wasn't that bad. The white plastic cage causes the most problems when removing the lock.
Refitting without the plastic cage is very quick and easy, as can be seen.
Great video! I had no idea how the doors worked and now i know it like a pro!
Thank you so much for this! Changed our lock yesterday 🎉
No worries, thanks for the comment
Thank you, you helped me fixing my car, I did it 😊
Thanks, glad it helped.
I feel like we're living parallel lives. Everytime I search for my current Clio-tastic job, you pop up.
No doubt with age and mileage some components on all Clios are more prone to failure than others, but at least the repairs/components are generally cheap.
@@KomradeShotabollokov for sure, it's a 19 year old car.
It's certainly a good practice vehicle for the amateur mechanic.
Thank you comrade!
Easy to understand commentation, lovely tutorial!
Good video, clear voice guy, great detail 👍
Cheers 👍
Great video. Fairly quick to strip down, apart from the window roller which took ages because it wouldn't budge.
Its the actuator, although works without load but when I reassembled it, didn't work. Interestingly voltage to open and close read as pos and minus, but not voltage.
If i can ask where you get your replacement actuator? Have a Type B clio but its a 2009, but seems to be a Type 2.
Its a real fiddle and on the type B tbere is a metal cover AND a plastic cover...
Cheers, and I think the actuator was a cheap no-name unit from ebay. It worked OK though so no particular complaints from me.
l have same problem with my '03 Clio LB. Thanks for video. Nice job bro. Greetings from Turkey.
legend👌 after looking this video I solved the problem thank you🙏
the place is crowded when you don't know how to disassemble it and you guess it:))))))))))))) I can congratulate you that you managed to remove the actuator without lowering the lock, normally remove the 3 screws from the lock, push the clamp of the rod from the handle on the lock, remove the handle rod from the lock and the whole frog comes out very easy
I have same problem with my clio, same door..sometimes work, sometimes doesn't
Thx for video,
No worries. It's an annoying problem but cheap to fix.
Thanks for the video mate very helpful!
Thanks. Really helpful!
Hi. Great video, thanks. Mine are temporamental and one makes a squeezing noise. As I'm going to dismantle the doors, what else should I grease/oil/wd40? I don't want to change the actuators and then find the problem is something else rusted/stiff or in need of a lube. Mine has no manual lock button inside so I'm expecting less metal bars inside.
Very useful thanks, I shall be referring to this when changing my actuator, I always find connecting back the rods the worse bit on these jobs. The white cover is to protect the actuator from water, so will try and refit using it.
No worries. The other side has gone on our car so I'll be referring back to this too!
I'm having a hell of a job trying to reconnect the handle rod, I get it lined up but the bugger just wont snap in. If I undo the two handle retaining nuts will that help?
Probably, yeah. It allows some movement in of the handle and that might be enough to get the rod into place. Bear in mind that tightening the handle nuts could be more difficult with the rod attached, due to access.
Okay done it Gasp!. Once I got the rod lined up with the hole I used a long screw driver pressed against the rod just above the bend making sure it was all lined up and then a smart tap with the hammer and in it went. You can tell when it's home because you can feel the end protruding through the other side. The problem is that it takes a bit of force to push it in and my thumb wasn't up to it.
@@KomradeShotabollokov that white part is referred to as an "antitheft bracket" in the Haynes manual, not sure how accurate that is, but if it makes your life difficult, I imagine it is not too far off as far as it's functional description goes 😅
Thanks for the help tovarishch !
I found nothing wrong with the motor unit but thought that the alignment of some of the moving parts was not good so realigned and lubricated and it's been OK for 3 months. PS both rear doors succumb in the end
Still a lot of work to remove the inside doorpanel. In my Clio from 2005 I dont have the vertical knob anymore. Why not move the little childlock switch into the right position? Problem is this little switch cannot be reached as long as the the door cannot be opened. So what should I do to open the door?
thank bro, it was just a good video
unfortunately, you need a one who hold the camera for you
keep going, your video is so helpful
You're right and since this video was shot I have bought two tripods to help with this problem! Cheers for the comment.
Komrade Shotabollokov
2 tripods, so is very nice. sure you will help and teach us
thanks and good luck with new videos
Thanks for video
I solve the problem 👍😎
Many Thanks for this excellent video!
Thanks 👍
HI mate
Great vid. Just got the same problem just wonder where you got the Actuator from ??
It was dirty unbranded eBay grot. Still working though, amazingly.
Cheers mate was just looking on eBay and was worried they would be cheap and unreliable but sounds great. Great help
Komrade Shotabollokov. Part from eBay unbranded arrived yesterday and my back two doors now work perfectly. Cheers mate
Living life on the edge with no-name parts: good on you.
I have got a Renault Clio and both of the back door Actuator have gone are they both the same.?
Dude, every issue I have on my old Clio is one you already have dealt with and have a video for. Amazing. Reckon the actuator can be disassembled / cleaned / lubed, or are they a sealed unit?
To be honest, if the actuator is already ripe for replacement then I would have a go at opening it; you have nothing to lose. Cheers for the comment.
just took one off, it is sealed but i will still try to open it
Just for future reference: I did open one and lubed it. It works on its own but it seems like it is still not strong enough for the locking mechanism
@@GabsReDeal i did the same thing, collector on the rotor was extremely dirty and not making any contact / barely any and being super weak. What i did is cut a very small piece of 1000 grit sand paper and placed it against collector while applying some pressure to it with a small screw driver and manually turning the rotor until these contacts got copper-shiny and then washed it off with isopropyl alchocol (obviously i took apart actual motor for this) now it works flawless and is quite strong and its not easy to stop it. Took me maybe half an hour and i enjoy doing this kinda stuff so its worth the time. Hopefully this can help to anyone else willing to go through this process.
@@idontcare7961 was your actuator fully not working or was it sometimes working sometimes not?
At 1:26 when you remove the door handle there is a black plastic thing where the screw gets screwed in. Do you know how this "thing" is called and where can I get one because mine is broken and i can't screw in my door handle. Thanks
Hi! Thanks for the video. Unfortunately I'm having a different but related issue - my rear left door is deadlocked, I can't get it to open at all. I tried removing the inner door panel by following your video (worked like a charm) and fiddling with the rods inside, but the inside door latch (the one that you pull up or push down) doesn't do anything and I can't even get the door to open. Would you happen to know a solution to this? Thanks!
My dad currently has the same issue on a different car. It's really not ideal and unfortunately some butchery of the inner door frame might be required to access the faulty lock and remove it. Good luck
@@KomradeShotabollokov Managed to find a video of a guy explaining the lock mechanism in detail and there's a simple thing you can do with a screwdriver from inside the car to unlock the door and finally gain access to the whole mechanism in order to remove it and fix/replace it. No butchering involved! Thank you for the reply though.
@@selfintuition2 Hello! I have the very same issue with the rear right door blocked. Can you share the video which helped you? Or perhaps explain what you did to unblock the door? Thanks!
@@marijanmarcius3368 Hi! Firstly, I found this video (code: 08o1iEPb4VY) to help me understand how the lock operates. My car is a Renault Clio 2 Phase 1.
Once I understood that part, I gained access to the lock by removing the trim inside and the black 'anti-theft' plastic cover, then, using a very long and thin, 'precision' flat screwdriver, I accessed the gap as shown in the video I referenced to activate the unlocking mechanism from inside the door. That way I finally managed to get it open.
The reason why my lock was malfunctioning was because a spring inside snapped and didn't activate the unlocking mechanism. I had to order a replacement on eBay from a Clio that was written off.
Great thanks
Komrade, how did you remive the window crank? do you just force is it or does it have some kind of safety?
It just pops off (no bolt or screw). I used a small pry bar, I think. Just take your time and go gently and it shouldn't break.
I removed the whole lock mechanism first, using a slightly different technique. The white plastic cover can't be removed unless a small spring is removed, and you have to remove the whole lock mechanism before you do that. To free the lock mechanism from the handle lever I managed to push the metal rod with the serrations (13:48 in video) out of the blue metal clip, then the mechanism was free to jiggle out with very little cursing or swearing required. The serrations on the metal rod must be to set it at the correct position for the handle to operate properly.
I've been having issues positioning this small metal door latch rod and your comment helped a lot, thank you!
Any idea where to buy the little white plastic thing that the door bar sits into ?
Hi Dylan,
For such specific parts, Renault themselves or breakers yards are probably your best bet.
It's just the solenoid clip(yellow plastic thing) thats broke for me, is there anywhere I can buy this from?
I would imagine it's a dealer-only part, Dylan. Unless you can find one in a scrapyard?
what year is that clio ?
Hey Snoop, the Clio was a 2003.
@@KomradeShotabollokov u think your video will be pretty similar to kangoo 2005 ?
I understand that there are quite a few similarities, but i have no experience with the Kangoos so couldn't confirm for sure.
@@KomradeShotabollokov reason I was asking and matched to video , was that this part , the lock actuator , matching Clio and kangoo , and it looks like my problem is the same , meaning remote only work on one door and not both .
Wonder if anyone can help me my wee grandson moved my latch mechanism on the door to the other side then shut door now i cant open it or shut the back door its a renault clio 2003 same one its here
did you disconnect the battery for this or it was just unplug, change, plug back in?
No, I just unplugged the old actuator and plugged in the new one.
Have the same problem
10:05 Extremaly hard to put in.
What happens if you have electric windows?
It means that you are rich; congratulations on your decadence.
send me that plastic cover bro)
It went in the recycling bin long ago mate, sorry!
.
Press unlock twice
Other than unlocking then locking the car again, what will this do?
Just a car for commuting and your dong this for a passenger back door you sausage lol
It's amazing how quickly a non-functioning door gets annoying!
