My family still makes gingerbread cookies. I've been making them for as long as I can remember, and my Mom and I send them to friends who live in different states now. I also make divinity, but I haven't made it in a couple years. I also make caramels and peanut butter fudge. I also have a good recipe for chocolate fudge, but this year, Mom made it. I've also made bourbon balls, but this year, I'm making a cake that tastes like my bourbon ball recipe. This year, My mom took a Claxton fruitcake, cut it into small cubes, and dipped them in chocolate. A lot of people don't make candies that you have to cook on the stove anymore, so when I give people caramels, they love them.
I feel like the tradition is each person everywhere rolls out ALL the holiday treats recipies they can personally manage to make. Its not unheard of for 1 person to make over 15+ different items for chrismas tins, and then you gotta have million cookies and bars for actual parties. We all have so many cookie swaps, bake sales, desert potlucks, and church fair I think we've all seen every 'Forgotten' item even withn the last few years❤❤
I don't know why ambrosia salad and minced pie always goes on these lists when families make it all the time throughout the year and minced pie is another thing that people still have and people still make gingerbread man to this day and peppermint bark is still a thing too. Coconut snowballs are still a thing too.
@@rachelannkrueger7638 Well, I always remember ambrosia as a summer bbq staple, but I haven't seen it or any of those other things in many years. No one I know ever had/made mince pies....
We had divinity and ribbon candy and fruit cake in the 1950s

I don't know what your big thing is about the 1980's but most of this stuff was around and a big part of the holidays many years before the 80's.

Tarts are small pies, they showed struessel bars as tarts. Raisin tarts have been a tradition in my family for generations, 😋 yum.
