Sow Housing

If they allow them to roam around they will compete with each other for food, and many will get hurt and deprived.

In free access crates (meaning the sow can leave the crate and roam the pen as they please) you only see maybe 4 or 5 sows at most roaming around while the rest stay in the crates for most of the day. It seems like sows like the privacy and security of the crates even though they have access to the pens at anytime.
