    Please use this tutorial at your own risk. Work on a table so you won’t lose screws or other parts.
    I would also like to note that the newer controllers are a little different.

      Do you think this method of replacing thumbsticks also works when there’s analog drift in the current ones or do I have to ply deeper?

    My mate took out that ribbon first before removing the battery (same way you did) but his controller started sparking up and there was a whole lot of smoke. I reccomend removing the battery first before you remove the ribbom just to avoid that outcome.

    Some important notes for people who have bought a newer version controller:
    - When you open the case, UNPLUG THE BATTERY FIRST before you take the blue ribbon out.
    - There's a good chance the plug for the battery is on the right side of the internals, and the black cable is at the top with the red cable below it. WHEN YOU REASSEMBLE THE CONTROLLER MAKE SURE WHATEVER YOU DO YOU PLUG THE BATTERY IN AFTER YOU PLUG THE BLUE RIBBON BACK IN.
    - The black section that the battery sits in is held in place by one single screw under the battery, unscrew that to take the section out.
    - The ribbon underneath the black section plate slides through a gap, so make sure when you put the controller back together you feed that ribbon back through the gap.

    It worked like a charm, but you should probably tell people that the blue ribbon is backwards with the newer controllers lol. Freaked me out the first time I screwed it back in and nothing happened, then I just flipped the ribbon and the blue light came on and works perfectly fine now.

    Great video. I have a pro tip for anyone taking anything apart -- before you undo/remove a part take a picture of what it looks like. That way when you're putting it back together you can look at the "good" state to remind yourself which way things are supposed to go. It also makes it less likely that you might miss a step when putting it back together since if you take a picture before you remove something, all you need to do is follow the pictures in reverse. This takes a little longer but is more safe.

  • @Plichtam
    @Plichtam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I fixed 3 chewed controllers thanks to you. I had a little trouble with l2 coming off but it's not too hard to snap it back in place with the spring. I also screwed the circuit board screw too tight and the joystick was sticking. The 5th snap to get the controller apart is a little nerve wracking but it does need a little bit of force after the other 4 snap points.

    Thanks for this great video, very useful. Fixed 3 controllers thumbsticks for vastly less than the cost of new ones. You do have to be careful with the L2 and R2 triggers as they can sometimes stick and stay behind in the bottom housing. Just don't lose the tiny metal wire spring part but it's pretty easy to put them back.

    • @ims44
      @ims44 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also recommend you replace both even if just one looks bad. All of mine appeared to be just one thumbstick failing but on closer inspection the others were starting to fail too.

    Lol I was following this walk-through with one of the newer controllers and I discovered that everything in the newer controllers are backwards from what you were showing me lol. The ribbon plug in thing was facing inwards and the black cord was on the top and the red cord was on the bottom for the battery. I still managed to fix my defective analog stick and put my controller back together in one piece, though. Thank you for the tutorial 👍

    Alright so basically I’ve had problems with this controller from defygaming for ages, first time I tried turning it on it didn’t work, and the second time it didn’t work again, finally after the second time of sending it back it worked the 3rd time. So for the past 2 months it’s been good however I noticed the rubber on the analog stick started to rip off so then we tried gluing a thumb grip on but it didn’t work. So we had no choice but to remove the whole analog stick as you did in this vid. So we thought it worked first time but the analog stick kept sticking downwards. So we popped the controller open again and tried the whole process again this time the analog stick was perfectly fixed and the left trigger and on button light was not working. So we had to try again and then the left trigger was fixed but the light wasn’t. And after the 4th time the controller is finally fully functional... for now, so thank you so much man I would’ve had to have bought a new controller without you :)

    love the video, thanks man. I just replaced my sticks after my dog chewed through my original ones. Quick tip if you're in Australia - i think the controls are made in Singapore - the blue ribbon cable that you disconnect and reattach first and last has the blue pointing inwards, not outwards. Check your control turns on before you put in the screws! Thanks Brian!

  • @oze-bikes4life663
    @oze-bikes4life663 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I agree with a similar comment, on the Australian PS4 Controller the first ribbon cable that we disconnect the blue faces "inwards" not Outwards.
    Obviously must be 2 different versions made worldwide.
    Note mine was the PS4 Slim not the PS4 Pro, not sure if that makes any difference.
    Just a simple photo before ribbion disconnection is the only extra step i would add to a near perfect upload. 😊
    Anyway the replacement thumb sticks worked great with zero issues. Thankyou for the clear & to the point tutorial. An Excellent video 😊👌👍🙏🍻

There is another video that explains how to replace the L2/R2 buttons which shows you how to insert the springs.

    I just did this, my controller is like new but I hate the joysticks, I moved from Xbox X to PS4 pro and the joysticks on xbox have more grip. I looked at grips for the ps4 controllers but those are more expensive than replacement joysticks so I bought xbox ones, put on the ps4 controller, brilliant, they are a bit taller but you get used to it, they fit like they were made for it.
    I actually have the newest version of the controller, a few differences, nothing major, just the controller board on the new ones don't have any screws, so its actually easier.The most difficult part was to remove the touchpad cable, but I figured out it has a little thing to grab and pull out. But that's not even necessary to remove, you could replace easy the joysticks just removing the bottom, its just easier to reassemble if you remove that touchpad thing.
    Next thing to do is replace the battery with a bigger battery.
    Also as a bonus, I tightened the screws really hard so now there's no creak when playing hard

    • @SuperBrianGames1
      @SuperBrianGames1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So i replaced my analog sticks and this video helped a lot. I have a newer ps4 controller so the four screws on the casing of the controller are the same, but the battery compartment has a screw in the middle that holds it to the circuit board. The connector for the battery and the display light are opposite than the video, but it's basically the same. Otherwise this video helped a lot thanks!

    Will replacing the joy stick fix analog drift or if the L3 R3 button don’t work properly? Or is that something that needs even more tear down and replacement

      You could try cleaning the electronic part of the analog stick, but more then likely it will need to be replaced.

    Great tutorial, thank you!
    Both my analog sticks are malfunctioning (controller fell a few times), left analog stick has a dead zone on one side, right analog stick keeps registering movement. Will this help, or does the metal looking thing under the thumb stick need replacement? Thanks!

    Is this just for replacing an analog stick that has wear and tear at the top??? In my case, the stick gets stuck when you push it inwards and it is a bit on an angel and not centered. This makes it basically impossible to run in games like COD, and in games like tekken because the stick is tilted I am continuously side stepping. Appreciate any kind of feedback and thanks in advance!!!!

    • @SuperBrianGames1
      @SuperBrianGames1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hugo Garcia It could be that the analog stick is dirty and it’s getting stuck. Try using a q-tip and apply some alcohol to it. Wipe the base of the analog stick as you move it around.
