    I made a mistake going over the Sat vs Sat curve and I'm not sure how considering I use it on a daily basis. The left side of the curve are the least saturated areas in your shot and the right side is the most saturated areas. Quite a mistake and I'm not sure why I did that. I'm only human 😅
    Thanks so much for watching and let me know what kind of look you'd like to see next!

    I learned a few more things that I can add to my toolbox. Very simple and easy to follow tips. The comparison viewer also helps my workflow. Thanks!

    I love color finale been using it from day 1 back when denver riddle was promoting it, its the closest color tools youll get compared to davinci but when using mask it steady crashes and makes the plugin unusable if they can fix the bugs and add film print emulation tool as well as halation and bloom. They add those features and make it more stable this plugin would be the best

  • @seecraig
    @seecraig 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You showed a great advantage of the comparison viewer to get a look from a feature film over just throwing on a LUT. Developing the eye and the use of the tools is important and one might even export as your own LUT if you need to use the look repeatedly.
    Great explanation on the advantage of blurring the color mask and the advantage of log wheels too. I wish FCP added that. Also, the ability to rename layers is good in Color Finale which you showed.
    I've always wished Vectorscopes could expand beyond the 133% setting because I have a very hard time seeing the shifts, especially at 100%. I see some colorists boosting saturation just to do detailed hue work and then bringing the saturation back down. I wish Vectorscopes went to 200%.

      Thanks so much for watching, Craig! You're exactly right the whole way through. Developing your eye and use of tools is so important and I also wish that those things were added to FCP. I mentioned it to FCP people over at Apple when I discussed some features I'd like to see.

    Nice one. I noticed that you mentioned the order of the "layers". Is it important to order the Adjustment Layers? I normally have the lowest one for LUT and the new ones (added on top) for Colour Finale and other editing.

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey brotha! So that's right in most cases, however if you're grading LOG footage and you need to adjust exposure caused by settings in camera, if you need to adjust the color balance or sometimes if you want to make a big push to your offset wheel to get your shot's color towards a certain hue for a stylistic choice, then the layer will go before the input LUT. It's talked about in depth in the Masterclass 😊

    Great vidéo Dylan! Love this kind of tutorial about colour grading. Color Finale is a game changer it's like we have a "mini Resolve" inside FCP. About CF do you know where are stored our Custom Presets in the Finder? I can't located them. Thanks.

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for watching! Yes so they should be in your LUTs window in the layers panel.

      @@dylanjohndickerson thank you for your answer, but I expressed myself badly, I wanted to say: where are they stored into the Finder?
      I have several on my old iMac that I would like to transfer on my new Mac Studio. I asked technical support of Color Finale but got no answer…🤷‍♂ Thanks you

      Oh interesting! I don't know actually. They didn't answer you though? Perhaps it'll just take some time for them to respond. If they don't respond in a few days I'd send a followup email @@fyl_k

      @@dylanjohndickerson I asked them several days ago... I think it would be interesting for all users to know where these Custom Presets are stored in the Finder in case we have a lot of them we would like to transfer to another Mac (like in my case) or share them with another CF user. Thank you for your answer Dylan.

    I shoot my vids using my pro settings on my ultra 22 samsung, is color grading necessary for mobile videos? Because I want to learn more but not sure if im over doing it using my phone. Thanks buddy

      @dylanjohndickerson  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know much about the Ultra 22 but so long as you're not seeing your image start to tear apart when you push around your colors, you're good.

      Thanks man! The plugin definitely gets a bit buggy but it's not that bad for me. It was okay with my M1 Max and seems to be working well with my M3 Max. Is it perfect? No, but it's not preventing me from finishing color grades. Have you reached out to Color Finale to ask if they can solve your problems with the plugin?
