Big fan of Prince, The Time, Vanity 6, The Family.....that whole era. Heard about the dissent between Prince and The Time, but never at this level of detail. I love hearing these stories, but gotta get the book.
I have, in fact there are more stories direct from other members if my memoirs serves me right in the Possessed book and in individual Uptown fanzine issues.
Prince wasn't just a musical genius, his leadership are marketing abilities were second to his musical talent. He possessed a rich intuition and courage that is rare in any artist, and music was only a medium for him to capture the irony of a revolution in progress. As all great visionaries do, he worked tirelessly to incorporate as many people into the fold bringing forth amazing talent and iconoclastic expression.

Sorry, but Prince was not afraid of his own creation. He gave the Time some of his best material and surely expected them to be successful. Hopefully they are all grateful.
I didn't know Prince played every instrument until reading the credits for the Sign O the Times album. That inspired me to make music for which I fail miserably :)

That Rolling Stone tour thing, really cemented Prince in musical history. The crowd was boo'ing him, all kinds of nonsense...but, I'm sure Prince walked off the stage, thinking..."Hey guys, I think we made it. Sky is the limit from here on out." And it was. It was a turning point.
