recently discovered Rich Mullins and words cannot describe how deeply I have been touched, both by the man, and his music - kindred spirit - thank God for showing me that I am not alone.............
I love that jimmy a calls it out in real terms "pissed off" "b.s." and the truth of the friendship they grew to have. To me, this is the best reflection of what Jesus was all about. Smoking, drinking cussing. Yeah, I get it, not so "Christian" but guess what.... It is Jesus. If you actually understand some of what Christ is recorded in the Bible as saying and the public Norms of the time you would understand that he was basically using some of very salty language in his time. That's just there as fact if you care to dig deeper. If Jesus was here today, there are so many Christians who feel the need to make their opinions known on social media that would want nothing to do with him. He would be offencive to them. I think rich understood this in a way that so many don't. He even said some things that I wasn't comfortable with. I cannot deny the fact that he was right. Still today and 2019 I strive to be like the little brother of Saint Francis. I want to be a ragamuffin.
Thank you so much for this concert presentation. I'm just learning about Rich Mullins. The more I learn the more I need to learn. I so appreciate hearing from the people who knew him and their stories. Rich is one of the special people, not perfect, all human, but none the less, one of God's chosen through whom we see Jesus Himself.
Thanks! I love the fact that folks are just starting to "discover" Rich. My favorite comment the night we filmed this concert was a guy who told me "I really had no clue who Rich Mullins was before tonight, but I'm leaving tonight with a deep appreciation and like I know him more."
Thank you for posting this. I designated Sept 19th as "Rich Mullins Day " in my house. I guess that's my own simple tribute to one of my favorite Christian songwriters. I have the movie about his life, it's disappointing to me in some ways . I guess nobody is perfect except One. I'm sad the he didn't get to go out " like Eijah ".
I also was hoping he went out like Elijah. I've imagined that was what happened in the spirit realm, swooping Rich up from that dark night on the highway. I cried for days after I heard the news, but was thankful to have heard him and known him briefly. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad to have shared in this tribute. "There's people been friendly but would never be your friend, has sometimes bent me to the ground." I think so many of us can relate to this and to many of Rich's lyrics.
I didn't like the movie either but I don't think it was an accurate reflection of him as a whole person. The portrayal of him struck me as exaggerated with the intent of catering to those who struggle with mental illness and addiction
Rich was a searcher of the love of God, of loving God in truth. He had contacted a priest at our parish, and told him that he wanted to become Catholic. He was preparing for entering into the 2000+ yr old faith founded by Christ in the months before he died.....he had given concerts at our parish, what a gift he was....
1. "the color green" 2. "Hard to get" 3. The Nations Rage 4. Surely God is WIth US Not 1 in 1000 Christian Artists could write any one of those songs. You actually need to Know God personally to write stuff like that. But more than just knowing God, you must have peered into heaven itself and read the bible extensively to write much of the other songs he did. In his song "calling out your name" some of his lyrics included "from the place where morning gathers you can look sometimes forever until you see what time may never know....." and "I've seen love make heaven ring" I only 3 or 4 known examples of christian artists with comparable lyrics. Keith Green, Randy Stonehill, Lecrae , Bizzle, are some of the few others. In this 2018 age of music, the worship artists are so flat and have nothing to say anymore. They don't know GOD, so God has spoken to the rappers. Lecrae, kayest, Bizzle, Thi'sl -- God is never silent, he just shifts his messengers to those who are in tune.
What a brilliant writer Rich was. He is now where he most wanted to be ..Thanks Lord for sharing Rich with us

"Surely God is with us" was written by Mark Robertson and Beaker.
Great tribute and rememberance, but too many shoes...
