I think Steve Perry's voice is one of the greatest of R&R, if not the greatest. Hard to compare. With that said, I saw Journey (with Arnel) open for Kid Rock and they were great! When Journey was inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Steve Perry gave a shout out to Arnel, saying Arnel sang his heart out every night and thanked him for keeping the music alive. Steve Perry is also a great human being!
I and many others lived through the 1980’s a group of us in high school who had dreams and hopes for a better future. The voice that carried a Generation through the 80’s and then SOME THANK YOU STEVE PERRY

I love Arnel for keeping Journey Alive since 2009. Amazing talent and fun to watch. Saw Journey in concert in 2009 and with Steve during their Hay Day in 1985. Steve was next level great. One of the Greatest vocalist in history. I have Mad respect for Arnel being able to come close to him and continue singing these great songs. I really don’t think there is anyone else who could do it.
When Steve sings, I feel it and I believe him! His tone, inflection and emotion express a unique vulnerability that draws people in. Every single bit of him is singing! King of the “power ballad”! Listen to how he holds those vowel sounds! Sigh! Amazing!

Not always some times artists sounds better than the originals. A prime example was Issac Hayes he did many songs that blew the originals away. Yet your point is still valid Pineda isn't better, or even equal, but he kept the Journey alive.

It's kind of amazing that after nearly 40 years this song has not gone off speed one bit. And that their voices are as alike as they are. Of course Steve is the original. The better tone and purity of voice. He's how we learned to love these songs and Journey. But come on, Arnel earns his place in Journey every time he goes out there with his own voice. He's older than Perry was at his prime, has sung these songs far longer and his voice is still powerful, which is usually not the case. I have a lot of respect for him and I love his passion for the songs.

Hearing Steve Perry's voice still and always will bring tears to my eyes. What an amazing voice. He is one of a kind and can never be replaced. I never got to see Steve live with Journey and I would give anything to see him back with Journey. With that said, I do like Arnel and his voice is the closest you could get to Steve Perry. What a great idea to have this duet and be able to discern the differences, hear the similarities while appreciating both of these singer's talent. My ear hears a stronger and better trained voice in Steve Perry with his extending of notes and precision timing.. However, all voices change over time and even Perry couldn't replicate this 1981 performance. I'm new to listening to Journey by choice, though I recognized their songs on the car radio and I'm deeply moved by Arnel Pineda's life story and Journey band member's chance discovery of his existence and uncanny Perry-like voice. So glad they were able to become reborn in a real sense and continue to do what they all love, making the world a richer place!

OMG, I remember this song from the roller rink when I was about 8or9 yrs old!!!! this music is amazing,and Steve Perry in my options has the most gorgeous voice, what a great group!!!!!!
Steve’s voice is one of a kind. Timeless vocals with immense power. Arnel does a great job keeping the band out on the road. Maybe the new albums won’t be so successful as the previous catalog with Steve singing. But Armel and the current line play from the heart and we are all blessed for that. Well done Arnel and Journey

Steve's voice is irreplaceable but Journey needed a vocalist who sounded like Steve and Arnel's voice is just like a glove that fits Journey very well.

@David Each yet I think she is just saying that for so many of us who remember them in their prime, it's Steve who sang to us. He was the driving force that got them to where they were. Even Neal said that in an interview. Steve is now old and can't sing that way anymore. So I believe she was just saying that Journey will always be a shadow of what they were back in their prime. Nothing against them now. But it's their songs with Perry that still get radio air time.
Arnel is great don't get me wrong.
But just like how Queen will always be Freddie Mercury

Hearing Steve Perry's voice still and always will bring tears to my eyes. What an amazing voice. He is one of a kind and can never be replaced. I never got to see Steve live with Journey and I would give anything to see him back with Journey. With that said, I do like Arnel and his voice is the closest you could get to Steve Perry. Arnel does an amazing job and I am so happy that he keeps Steve's songs and Journey alive.
I don't understand why a lot of people still can't accept Arnel as a part of a journey band. Just be grateful for this man's (Arnel) contribution to continuing the legacy of Steve Perry's songs and making the songs and band alive as much as he can. Just accept that steve can no longer sing. Remember, Steve loves Arnel to keep his songs alive. Yes, there is always an original and it's normal we can't compare the TWO different talents but please just give respect to this man for keeping the journey alive.
What I like about Arnel is, he has so much respect for Steve. As Arnel say's every song I sing of his is my tribute to Steve Perry.

This is a perfect display of the voice of each...AND THE DIFFERENCE many don't off the bat see...The main and most important denominator of a TRUE voice,being purity making it that "stand out" voice that can and will never be replaced! I wasn't expecting Arnel to be so good when I first saw him play with Journey, but listening to them side by side now have to say Steve has the best voice.

What a great idea to have this duet and be able to discern the differences, hear the similarities while appreciating both of these singer's talent. My ear hears a stronger and better trained voice in Steve Perry with his extending of notes and precision timing.. However, all voices change over time and even Perry couldn't replicate this 1981 performance. I'm new to listening to Journey by choice, though I recognized their songs on the car radio and I'm deeply moved by Arnel Pineda's life story and Journey band member's chance discovery of his existence and uncanny Perry-like voice. So glad they were able to become reborn in a real sense and continue to do what they all love, making the world a richer place!
To me no one like Steve Perry amazing voice capabilties and grateful for Arnel keeping Journey alive.
There's no sense comparing Steve & Arnel, both were equally talented. Both were blessed with amazing vocals. I love them both.
