    Ryan, It is about time Toyota offered a locking rear differential on the Tundra. With the price of body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs today, a rear locker ought to be standard equipment.🤨

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Seemed to do fairly decent here though. Maybe subsequent owners might tackle more hardcore obstacles, but at least for first owners I think this is equipped just fine for a non-niche pickup.

    @WW-wf8tu ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Well, I was not necessarily expecting the "ladder" to be that easy with this truck. Figured the tires would give you some grief. But as you pointed out, the terrain was pretty idealistic. It is good you explain that factor to people in these videos. Some might not comprehend that factor. I personally believe in, run what you brung and deal with the real. Where as I see a lot of people expecting and or asking for terrain conditions to be exact between vehicles for exact comparison purposes. Well done.

    • @drivingsports

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The V8 got better fuel economy than the twin turbo V6 ever will, and with the V8 you weren't really working the engine at all on highway cruising drives. The problem was the 6 speed transmission never could figure out what gear it was supposed to be in LOL. The fuel economy was great back then considering it had a 4.30 axle ratio....it was built to work not be fuel efficient, which is where most people get mixed up...they buy a truck thinking its gonna do great on gas...no its built to haul and tow...want fuel economy buy a car.
      In the beginning of the video he mentioned he got 16mpg....pretty pathetic fuel economy, sure he was going up and down hills, but a truck like that with a V8 would have gotten a little better, and no turbos and hybrid system to give you problems after warranty period is over, and they will give you problems.
      What Toyota should have done was put an 8 speed in the Tundra with the V8 as an ongoing option, if you want a car with a truck bed fine, get the pile of junk V6, but for those that actually want their truck to last and need to haul and tow a lot of the time get the V8.

    It's worth noting that there are two different OEM versions of the wildpeaks. The ones on the TRD offroads aren't just less tread depth, they are a totally different tread pattern. They pretty much look like a slightly ruggedized highway tire. The TRD Pro wildpeaks have the same pattern as real wildpeaks, but less depth and a different compound. Neither one is 3 peak mountain snowflake.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c ปีที่แล้ว

      I would just skip all that nonsense and add an aftermarket locker, and skid plates, get rid of the running boards/steps option and put sliders on it and have money left over. Just buy the base model 4x4, add an ARB locker or any auto locker will do as well. Stick to 17" or maybe 18" wheels and you'll have more space for tires with more sidewall for better ride and less issues with tire damage on trails. All those fancy goodies they add are garbage, and way too expensive for what they are.
      I had an 08 base model Tundra, but with the 5.7L V8, and 4WD....had plenty of features, if I could have got it without the safety nannies it would have been even better LOL....never felt the need for a locker, the ATRAC and good tires with 4WD did very well even in some pretty precarious spots I got into in deep snow and a couple of occasions some deeper muddy areas up hunting.
      Toyota lost my business when they just completely discontinued the V8 option in the Tundra and went straight for that stupid turbo V6 crap. Yes, when you buy a vehicle that you are gonna keep for 10+ years, you want the V8, not the turbo underpowered engine garbage....they don't bother to tell customers that anytime you want to get out of your own way you are gonna get worse fuel economy than a V8 or larger engine period...and all that 400+ horsepower don't happen at all without those turbos and guzzling gas. 16mph, that's HD truck fuel economy...and actually many of them now get around that or better when unloaded....so a 1/2 ton truck getting that kind of fuel economy in today's world is pretty pathetic.

    Beautiful truck but you have to have a lot of disposable income I feel. It would be nice to have a tundra or a fullsize truck but I can't justify a fullsize unless I have a business to write it off. The tacoma or a midsized truck is very appealing to me. The capacities are decent, better mpgs and the power output is alot better than what they used to be. Plus one turbo is cheaper to replace than two.

      Supposedly the toyota US guys really pushed for hooks on the tundras, and used the backlash to convince toyota to put them on the taco.
      AEF power makes some hooks, I might buy a set for mine. unfortunately the tow rope would be pretty dang close to the bumper though.

    • @wildbill23c

      Because people are buying them as soccer mom family sedans now...trucks used to cost less than a car...people figured that out, then out came extended cab and crew cab trucks, then came the fancy interiors, then all the luxury car crap...so now you pay ridiculous prices on trucks because they cater to people who never use them as a truck.

      Worst part is Toyota dropped the V8 because of fuel economy standards....yet the replacement gets worse fuel economy LOL. I usually got 19mpg with my 08 5.7L V8 equipped Tundra, but it also had the 4.30 axle ratio so it could actually tow quite well for a 1/2 ton truck. It was built to be a work truck, not a soccer mom grocery getter sedan that people keep buying trucks for.
